I had these "wise" words in the back of my mind, while making this font. I wanted to capture the wildness of both punk/grunge/skateboarding and grafitti without overdoing any of them!

One of my earliest memories of being able to write - an exciting skill - was of writing with my finger in the fine soft sea sand. I remember the freedom - I had no fear of making mistakes, of smudging ink or of doing anything wrong - and the ease with which I could write or wipe out any thing in the sand. Designing SandWriting was a tribute to those early memories. The font was an attempt to capture the simplicity and ease of a finger effortlessly making its mark in the sand. It can be used in many ways: in menus and invitations, in newsletters and advertisements, and in scrapbooks and brochures. It might be particularly useful for written material aimed at younger people. SandWriting contains all upper and lower case characters, all punctuation and special characters as well as all accented and standard European characters.

Between twilight and daybreak it is said that the dark side of the human psyche eclipses the sun that shines from the depths of our souls. Certainty turns to doubt, clarity becomes confusion, man turns into wolf, the dead wake, vampires seduce the young are restless and milk boils over on the stove. Those that seek only to bathe in the light of a romantic new moon often end their tragic lives soaked in nothing other than their own blood, and the milk spilt on the stovetop has no one left to cry over it. There are fifty shades of grey during those hours after sunset and I think just as many in my porridge this morning. Yes, okay, I admit it, I spoiled the milk! This porridge tastes like it was left in a graveyard overnight. Death warmed over. Gothic and lumpy. Just like the Buried weights of this font.

XPhyngern is a collection of pointing fingers taken from a variety of sources. Some come from the 19th century, when there were a great many used. Others are based on fingers I found in reproductions of medieval manuscripts. If you need a interesting pointing finger, try this typeface.

Stencil Round Ends, is just that, a stencil typeface with rounded terminations to each line rather than the squared terminations found in your typical stencil font. This design was developed while designing a typeface for engraving. The end mill tools used to engrave a font are round, thus the lines will all end with a rounded edge. While designing the engraving font I also designed this font to make sure that the single line version will have the desired aesthetic. Unlike many stencil fonts that have a limited range of glyphs I made this to contain the majority of letters, accents, ligatures, and mathematic symbols commonly used in most latin based languages.

Dolce Caffe is a pretty hand-written font, designed in 2011, that is very legible and high in style and carefully constructed all-uppercase letters. It was totally inspired by hand-written chalkboards in Berlin, a city that I love. Take also a look at Merendina

The original idea for Alda came from exploring an alternative approach to generating different typeface weights by adapting the characteristics of physical objects. I was interested to find out how far this could be pushed before the letters became a parody of what they referenced. Initially I took this treatment very literally, with the boldest weight expressing the tension of bent steel, and the lightest being as spineless as a rubber band. This allowed me to infuse each weight with unique characteristics, where the bold is robust and angular, and the light is delicate and soft.

BetterKamp was originally constructed in 1995-6. It was not constructed to meet any specific purpose but out of curiosity, to see what the result would be if two quite different faces were blended. KampIngriana is the offspring of BetterTypeRight, which has characteristics of a typewriter face without the monospacing, and KampFriendship, which mimics a serifed face drawn by hand. The original blending had many oddities that I did not clean up until 2020 when I also added the semi-bold weights. BetterKamp lacks polish and elegance, but it is very readable at small point sizes.

Architype Crouwel is a collection of typefaces created in collaboration with Wim Crouwel, following his agreement with The Foundry, to recreate his experimental alphabets as digital fonts. Crouwel's most recognized work was for the Van Abbe and Stedelijk museums (1954 –72) where he established his reputation for radical, grid-based design. Architype Catalogue’s soft ‘padded’ letterforms were originally created by Wim Crouwel for the Stedelijk museum’s 1970 exhibition of sculptor Claes Oldenburg.. Crouwel said, ‘When you look at Oldenburg’s work, with all those soft objects, it gets into your system, so you try to integrate that feeling in the design. Claes was very taken with the catalogue's typeface, and asked me if I would do the whole alphabet for him, so I did. I cut it all out in pink paper and pasted it together’.

Martabat is an monoline script font wich natural movement. I made this font inspired by the concept of simple signature and made it into a modern yet clean style. I also added some ligatures and alternatives swashes that are very interesting when applied. Traveling through the central and southern parts of Mexico a number of years ago, I couldn’t help but be impressed with the amazing architecture of the indigenous peoples. From the giant pyramids of Teotihuacan to the extensive and impressive layout of Chichén Itzá to the smaller-but-spectacular Monte Alban ruins in Oaxaca, creativity abounds. One of the things I most enjoyed were the carved stone friezes that ran around many of the more complete buildings. Oaxaca calls to mind those beautiful carvings and, strangely, Chinese writing.

Frans Masereel wrote or should I rather say cut some "novels in pictures" around 1927. They are written in powerful black and white woodcuts and were apparently printed from the original cuttings, at least that what it looks like. On the cover he cut the titles in rough wooden letters. Those letters inspired me to produce Woody. Maybe some day I will add a second weight, wich will be an extended cut. But for the time being this is enough woodwork. Your woodcutter Gert Wiescher

Cack-handed was created by writing with my left hand even though I am right handed.

Vienna designer Viktor Solt has a love affair with handwriting. “Usually” he says “when I start with a specific calligraphic style I take some historic specimens and try to integrate their main features into my own handwriting.” Although there are hints of various 18th-century calligraphic styles in Ballerino it was not based on any historical model. The swash ascenders and descenders on the lowercase are all slightly different; this and the rough texture of the edges gives Ballerino a distinctly hand-written feel. The swash caps are meant to be used only in conjunction with the lowercase not to be combined with each other.

Max J. Gradl was a German jewelry designer. A Web search today turns up several examples of his work from the turn of the 20th century. He seemed to favor green stones in silver metalwork. Gradl also did advertising work and co-authored a book on architectural design. Most important for our purposes, though, are the incredible hand lettered alphabets and monograms the man left behind. I’ve digitized one of those delightful alphabets and tried to keep it true to the original. Beyond the base character set of letters, numerals and basic punctuation, I had to extrapolate forms that, I hope, hold true to Gradl’s design. Enjoy!

Besides all the display and script typefaces I design, my real passion is to design typefaces for copy. Safran is the first of my sans serif workhorse families available from Myfonts. Starting from a light version there are nine weights up to the strong ultrabold. All with italics. What was the inspiration for designing the font? I wanted to create a clear and elegant typeface with a wide variety of weights and proportions that are easy to use in corporate branding and magazines. FT Drobbs is inspired by the Didot font group, known for its neoclassical style reminiscent of the Age of Enlightenment. The font includes a combination of very narrow and very wide lines. FT Drobbs features increased contrast between wide and narrow lines and includes rich teardrop endings. I love to watch how the lines bend, how they move, expanding or going into the thickness of the hair. I love their graceful beauty. FT Drobbs is not alphabetic, but it contains numbers, a set of basic currency symbols, and a few typographic characters. It is suitable for use as accents in labels, posters and infographics.

I wouldn't recommend that you use this font for massive text, or text written in CAPS ... but then again, go ahead and try - I even kerned all the capital letters ... just in case that you would do something so crazy! :) Dynamique is a kind of a "straight out of the highway" grid-font. But then again, not ... if you use the lowercase alone, you have this almost monospaced font - try starting every word with a capital letter, and let it end with the alternate ligature, your words suddenly got even more power! If you want to go lightspeed - then use the same technique, but only with the italic version!

This is my new, completely worked over and fine-tuned Bodoni Classic for Europe (no Greek and Cyrillic). I have added a set of elegant Swashes (B) and 2 alternating uppercase swirly Initials (C) as well as two lowercase end-letters (D). The fonts A and B have extensive kerning, which the initials (C) don't need, they are aligned to replace the standard capital letter. The lowercase end-letters (D) are aligned to replace the standard lowercase letters, so you might need to add a blank after the swirl. The sketches for this font were made while listening to "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. I wanted a ghoulish and creepy looking font, and strangely the font was completed while listening to "Jesus Christ Superstar" Talk about creepy!

A tessellation is a shape that can be used to completely fill the plane—simple examples are isosceles triangles, squares, and hexagons. Tessellation patterns are eye-catching and visually appealing, which is the reason that they have long been popular in a variety of decorative situations. These Tessie fonts have two family members, a solid style that must have different colors when used and an outline style. They can be used separately or they can be used in layers with the outline style on top of the solid style. For rows to align properly, leading must be the same as point size. Shapes that tessellate and also resemble real-world objects are often called Escher-like tessellations. This typeface contains Escher-like tessellations of birds. A number of years ago I decided to see how many of the 28 Heesch types of tessellations I could use to make birds standing on the backs of other birds. I found standing bird patterns for all 17 of the types that had either translated or glided edges. The TessieStandingBirds typefaces contain the standing-bird shapes that I discovered. At first glance they seem to be quite similar, but small differences matter in how they fit together. Most of the patterns require more than one character. The sample file here shows how pieces fit together to give tessellating patterns. (Earlier tessellation fonts from IngrimayneType, the TessieDingies fonts, lack a black or filled version so cannot do colored patterns.)

Michiana Pro is my new, hand-crafted connecting script! I've been hand lettering cards and envelopes to my wife and family in this type style for years and decided it was time to make a font based on it. I typically start with a single thin stroke for each letter, then build up the weight of the heavy stroke, so there ends up being a lot of charming variations in terms of style and color. The overall finish is rough, yet friendly. Perfect for invitations, place cards, love notes, and with its large x-height, it sets nicely for text. I grew up running around the dunes and beaches along Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana, and I think the shoreline and dune grass has inspired my aesthetic.
