The main inspiration is from Art Nouveau which flourished in Europe at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. This design included furniture (Majorelle, Lalique) and architecture (Victor Horta, Henry Van de Velde, Gaudi, Alfons Mucha). But Hector Guimard remains the favorite for all aspects of its art and, of course, its typefaces used on the Parisian Metropolitan posters. In particular, the various kerning of the various letters he used to make the poster a whole design from singular designs, leading to numerous variations. As a designer, I initially worked a first version, called Metro New One, which is more geometric and traditional. This design "Two" has more flexible shapes and long vertical hooks. It can be used to enhance specific parts in letters and books in the context of Art, specially Art Nouveau and Art Deco of course, posters of any kind.

Museum Fournier is inspired by a set of Rococo capitals designed by Pierre Simon Fournier le Jeune circa 1760. The matrices are part of a set imported to Sweden by J.P. Lindh in 1818 from Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig, Germany. They are now in the Nordiska Museum in Stockholm. Type designer Torbjörn Olsson has expanded the original 31 lead matrices in the collection to 55 characters. This font is mainly inspired from the engraved characters of a German Map depicting Germany's roads and parts of surrounding lands, edited in Berlin probably in the end of 1700's. The engraver was Carl Jaeck or Jaek (1763-1808). The Map was bought by the French napoleonic general Louis Pierre Delosme (1768-1828) probably during the Napolenic campaign against Germany, circa 1805 or at least 1806, his sole staying in Germany. The font (with two styles, Normal and Italic)is containing standard ligatures and a few alternative characters. It is a "small eye" or "Small x-eight" font, as the Maps' characters are most often very small (some Italic lower cases of the map are 1mm hight, upper cases 2mm) The standard English characters set is completed with accented or specific characters for Western (Including Celtic) and Central European, Baltic, Eastern Europe and Turkish languages.

I became interested in designing Bodoni Classic because of a lazy graphic designer at Jacques Damase publishing house. He had to change a single letter on a bookcover about J. B. BODONI. The French call him Jean Baptiste instead of Giambattista! And that unknown graphic designer just took any old “J” from some newly cut Bodoni. All the new Bodoni cuts have square serifs, whereas the originals had rounded serifs and slightly concave feet. The single letter “J” with the squared off serif was for me like a road sign to start redesigning the entire Bodoni family. That’s exactly what I started in 1993 and a dozen years later I am finished. Okay, I am still adding new Bodoni Classics, but those are my personal additions.
