Swansbury, Inc. provides handwriting instruction to all ages, accompanied by two exemplar fonts, Barchowsky Fluent Hand.otf and Barchowsky Dot.otf. The basis for the design of the characters is the italic of the Renaissance. With the advantage of contextual alternates, Barchowsky Fluent Hand automatically joins lowercase letters so it can be used in any venue where a clean and elegant appearance of handwriting is desired. The fonts allow maximum instructional flexibility. Aside from their use in lesson plans, educators can customize pages for specific student interests, studies and needs. Included are all math symbols that one typically encounters in school curricula. Nan Jay Barchowsky, designer of this font, believes that children should hone their handwriting skills as they learn all subjects, reading, math, history and foreign languages. Specifications: The technology for fonts that automatically join letters, or allow them to be unjoined is relatively new. At present, both fonts work on Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or later (or Vista), using AbiWord, a free word processor (go to abisource.com). They also work well with InDesign 2. Currently there is an unknown factor in later versions of InDesign for Windows that disallows joining. Macs completely support the fonts using InDesign 2 and later, PhotoshopCS and IllustratorCS. If you do not have these applications, there is an inexpensive word processor for Macs.

Many current poster artists like to reference the graphic type styles that were popular in the ’60s and ’70s. Zaftig is a contemporary font that takes the geometric and blocky inspiration from that era but then steps off in a modern direction. At first glance, it may appear that the capitals of Zaftig all take up the same amount of space, but certain letters have been designed proportionally for a better flow. Zaftig contains the basic character set and will work for most European languages. Inspired by the elegant, rounded geometry of classic sans-serifs like Harry™ and Cirkulus™, Evcial was designed in 2000 to serve as the logo font for EVCco's website. The composition of each alpha-numeric glyph in Evcial is restricted solely to circular curves and lines of either 90 or 55 degrees, thus lending an air of chic consistency to this sophisticated typeface. The extremely narrow Robotik was created by the British typeface designer David Quai and appeared with ITC in 1989. The figures are robust and strong and form tightly packed, bar-like lines. The characters' slim, narrow and angular forms suggest mechanical exactness and cool distance. The similarity of the forms are also reminiscent of machinery and the letters form chains of words. The form principle shows parallels with the constructivism of Moscow after the First World War. Robotik is best used for headlines in large point sizes.

In 2014 I made a font called Whatnot. I think I made with with a roller ball pen, but I am not sure, as it was a long timer ago. I have always liked Whatnot font and I think it deserves a second lease on life, so I made a new (and improved) version of it, called Whatnot 22. Not Catch 22... It now comes with better kerning, multilingual support (including Vietnamese, Sami and Greek) and a cool set of contextual alternates that cycles as you type.

This handmade-looking, playful type is inspired by the titles of a few old Czech movies for children. With its irregularity and numerous alternates, Rumburak simulates live handwriting. When the font is used in OpenType-savvy applications, the 4 variants of glyphs are automatically alternated to achieve a random-like effect. The spacing and kerning were carefully fine-tuned by Igino Marini and the kerning table contains kerning pairs for use with the random feature turned on or off. Amitié is another typeface design by Ralph M. Unger. With its French origin already hinted at in the name, Amitié comes across as friendly and lively. This design reflects Unger’s interest and love in classical, expressive type with the right sense of style. Amitié is very readable at small sizes, but it can be used as well in headline sizes, e.g. for book title and the like. As usual for URW++ fonts, Amitié is supplied with the full range of Latin glyphs including those for Eastern Europe.

Madita started with the idea of an upright sans script. Unlike other script typefaces, some of the characters look fairly constructed. The endings are either vertical or horizontal. On the other hand there are the swashes of a flowing script woven into the sans stroke that create an interesting tension. Madita is surprisingly legible, even in smaller sizes. The upper case letters even work in all caps.

Brazilian designer Eduardo Omine designed his Beret family of typefaces in an attempt to create a warm counterpart to the clean, minimalist sans serif of the 20th Century. The most individual characteristics of Beret are the terminals at the ends of its vertical strokes. They are slightly bent", simulating a subtle flare. Like many classic sans-serif typefaces (e.g., the original Syntax and Univers), this family does not include true (calligraphic) italics. Instead, a masterful set of obliques has been created. As Stanley Morison articulated in the early 1920s and 30s, these slanted versions of the regular "roman" faces may even work better when one wishes to emphasize certain words or passages within a text. The Beret family of typefaces is suitable for numerous applications, in both text and display sizes. The following nine fonts make up the family's design: Beret Light, Beret Light Italic, Beret Book, Beret Book Italic, Beret Regular, Beret Medium, Beret Medium Italic, Beret Bold, and Beret Bold Italic. I always like to make a heart swash font and this is my 7th. Winterfalls is a high quality, smooth, simple script font which is easy to read and ideal for anything romantic and loving. Use it on cards and notes for baby announcements, wedding stationery, birthday and thank you cards but most of all, anything for your Valentine. Winterfalls includes left and right end swashes and connecting swashes on the lowercase letters, and a set of alternate uppercase letters with heart swashes. There are a few alternate lowercase letters, such as the ‘i’ and the ‘j’ dotted with a cute little heart and many, many ligatures. As usual, this font also comes with a good set of international characters, which will come in handy when you want you entice your valentine with a little french, haha. Havel is an updated interpretation of a Czech type design from the 1930s. It is powerful and very condensed. At a quick glance you might find kinship with other condensed typefaces of the same period, like Spire (Sol Hess, 1937), Onyx (Gerry Powell for ATF, 1937) or Quirinus Bold (Alessandro Butti, 1939). But Havel has its very own look, rooted in the rapidly disappearing "Eastern European Type", a typographical tradition where poster and packaging design were the highlights. Torbjörn Olsson has revived this classical Czech beauty, and the Open Type version, Havel Pro, can also be used for Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian.

Like its feline namesake from Kipling’s “Jungle Book”, Baghira has an elegant, smooth appearance and an impressive set of large, sharp teeth. With smoothly drawn curves, precisely placed corners, and rectangular dots, Baghira is a design rooted in the here and now. Its true italics gently allude to calligraphic roots, but overall, Baghira doesn’t follow any historical model. This cool cat sets his own standards. Designed by Christian Gruber & Moritz Kleinsorge, the Baghira font family consists of 8 fonts, with 4 weights ranging from Regular to Bold. Its character set contains 800 characters per style and is suited to quality typography in editorial design, corporate design and advertising.

Superba Pro is a condensed Egyptian font family with short ascenders and descenders. The dots on the lowercase ‘i’ and the German umlaut-vowels are square. Haas Type Foundry created the original Superba in 1928-1930. Steve Jackaman (ITF) designed and produced a digital version of the bold weight in 1992. In 2017, Jackaman completely redrew the bold weight, added an accompanying wide weight, and expanded the glyph set to support Central and Eastern European languages. Like other slab serif faces, Superba excels at display sizes and is comfortable at subhead sizes. ­ It is robust, and has “superb” legibility, allowing it to dominate attention in any project it is utilized in.

SK Coisa is a decorative slanted geometric typeface with a daring character. Its sharp shapes and angles, and indeed the whole structure, scream for its extraordinary nature. It is unusual and stands out, and most importantly, it does not hesitate to be not like everyone else. SK Coisa is built on the contrast of rounded and sharp geometric shapes, and because of it, its appearance is impossible to forget. The typeface has both capital and lowercase characters. It supports the basic and expanded Cyrillic and Latin alphabet, as well as many other languages ​ ​ and character sets. If you want your design to scream, then SK Coisa is exactly what you need!

Goldana is a display layered font inspired by art deco. The base layer is regular; add an extrude and extrude shadow to create a dimensional look. Several of the styles can be mixed and matched together to create different style details. There are several fonts with a stand-alone style and script. The Script fonts are also equipped with OpenType features. (The shadow, drop shadow, drop stripe and stencil styles are not meant to be layered.) I had a totally different name assigned to this font at first. Then, while drifting off to sleep one night during the creation process, my sleepy brain said, "You know, BLORP would be a great name to go with these letter shapes." Normally when I have those half-asleep ideas and look at them in the morning, they make no sense. But I decided to make a sample image for BLORP, and it turns out I really like it! So ... BLORP it is! This font is extensively edited for super-smooth lines and curves, so it'll cut like butter in your Cricut or Silhouette machine. Though it's also super cute for print projects, logos, branding, or anything else you want to use it for! It has a funky mix of letter sizes and heights, and two sets of uppercase letters, so you can mix everything together JuSt LikE tHIs, and it'll still look great! CA Capoli is a fine script typeface with a vintage touch. Perfect for illustrative titles or logotypes. It comes in two styles, Regular and Stroke. The inspiration came during our trip to Italy, where we took a short rest in a bar during a hot day. We discovered a simple ceramic ashtray on the table. The word “Nido” was inscribed in a typeface that looked like it dated back to the 1950s. We made some investigations about the word, its meaning and origin but it still remains a big mystery. Was it the name of a hotel or a restaurant or some vintage Italian cigarettes? We don’t know. We were so amazed about the design of the logo that we decided to create a typeface out of it. A sophisticated endeavor because we just had four letters. How could the rest of the letters – if it ever existed – have looked like? Our hypothesis is CA Capoli. A typeface with a full Central European character set and some nice alternative letters to chose from. When we thought about “Nido” and its possible derivation of hotel business, we felt like creating a small side project for this typeface, a brand for a fictional hotel called Hotel Capoli with business cards, letterheads, a reception book, key fobs and embroidered patches for the service dress of the hotel service stuff. The Hotel Capoli is located at the wonderful beach of Cape Arcona on the fictional country of Arcona Islands where our type foundry is located.

The Dutch word “leuk" translates loosely to English as pleasant, jolly, funny, witty, clever, nice, sweet, kind, nice, amusing, entertaining, and funny. My challenge in designing Leuk was to find a unique feature to set apart the font without losing the fundamentals of type design.
