Here’s the follow-up to my Route 66 series, patterned after the typeface used on signage on the U.S. interstate highway system for fifty years. The numbers and uppercase letters are true to the original, while a number of the lowercase letters show the influence of the new Clearview type. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin and 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan) character sets.

At first glance, Handbills and Posters JNL bears a strong resemblance to Classroom JNL. True, they both share the visual qualities that are based on Franklin Bold Condensed, but this is where the similarity ends. Handbills and Posters JNL is a refined re-draw of the classic design, based largely on vintage typographic examples. There are also some character variances. Classroom JNL is a rougher alphabet with varying curves and lines, and resembles such letters traced and cut out of construction paper for a bulletin board display at school.

A type foundry example showcasing some letters from a narrow slab serif wood type design served as the inspiration for Wood Serif Poster JNL. This condensed typeface is available in both regular and oblique versions, and digitally recreates the kind of lettering found on flyers, broadsides and newspaper headlines of the mid-to-late 1800s.

Wood Poster Display JNL is a more casual sans wood type, with a bold and friendly appeal. This font offers a pleasant design which lends itself perfectly to titling, price cards, event notices and any print or web design that prefers a less formal structure to its typography.

Eckhardt Poster Display JNL continues Jeff Levine's series of lettering popularized by sign painters. Named in honor of Albert Eckhardt, Jr. - a good friend of Jeff's and a talented sign writer, this font is a traditional block style that's perfect for posters or headlines.

Morse Font is a cool alternative for you to easily create a logo for your Underground band or whatever. Using alternate front and ending letters brings the font to life, It comes with a basic character set and a small group of symbols and signs often used in the extreme music sector.

The typeface is a casual brush style, modeled from an image of a do-it-yourself sign making kit comprised of stencils, paint and brush spotted for sale through an online auction.

Eckhardt Poster Deco JNL is a continuation of a series of sign painter's fonts, and was modeled from a lettering example found within the pages of an old sign design manual. Sign painters are the true heroes of lettering, for they make the alphabet and style fit the job. Printers and layout artists were constricted by metal and wood type; that is until photo lettering, then digital type opened up unexplored territories in design possibilities. There is a unique charm (and nowadays pretty much a lost art) to hand-lettering word copy in a way that draws the eye like an arrow to a target. Even a simple sanserif such as Eckhardt Poster Text JNL can have the effect of that hand lettering when applied to posters and pages with plenty of white space and matching type designs of the period.
