Faithfully reproduced from my father’s design drawings made at The Municipal School of Arts and Crafts, Wolverhampton in 1939. Strong nostalgic influences of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. What caught my eye was the consistency with which each particular character was formed: every ‘R’ like every other, every ‘S’ the same. Tight letter spacing and loose word spacing characterised his titling but he didn’t trust himself to print without first ruling guidelines, a hint of which remain in this font.

Back in 2011, Gelato Script was the best-selling brush script font on MyFonts, and has remained popular, appearing on everything from designer handbags to primetime TV shows; from food blogs to wedding invitations; from glossy magazines to (not so imaginatively!) ice cream shops. Esm is a font that tries to convey the reinterpreted aesthetics of German and Swiss typography along with a new trend of unusual shapes. The font has a different approach to the internal elements of letters-ovals that have a straight line on one side, drawing the glyph "a" example. Samarquand is a handwritten script design from Roy Preston. Based on the handwriting of a friend, Roy has expanded this friendly, semi-connecting script to include three weights, Light, Regular and Bold, opening up even more design possibilities. The Samarquand fonts support an extended character set, as well as some ligatures, inferior and superior numbers, and unlimited fractions. There are some really nice letterforms in these fonts, particularly that uppercase W! Peruse the posters to see. Pata Slab: the ultra-heavy optimism we all need in 2020 Pata Slab is the type equivalent of a catwalk stomp down a city sidewalk, a font that’s assertive, funky and more than a little sexy. Named after a colloquialism for ‘feet’, Pata features ultra-heavy slabs and contrasting hairline centers that rise from its chunky footprint. The resulting, retro-inspired vertiginous curves add instant attitude to any design. A mediterranean style sanserif in 4 styles The original idea of Costa was to create a contemporary mediterranean typeface style. Costa is a synthesis of the purity, as found on Greek capitals, and softness, found in Renaissance scripts. First thing was the design concept that take its roots on the Chancery script. Such writing style appeared during Italian Renaissance. Later few typefaces have been developed from such cursive models. Today most serifed typeface italic take their roots on such triangular structure we can find on gylphs like the n, p, or d. The Costa capitals remains close to pure sanserif models when the lowercases features an ending serif on many letters like the a, n, d, etc. This ending serif being more like a minimal brush effect, creating a visual contrast and referencing the exoticness of the typeface. Knowing that the Costa typeface family began life in the 90s as a bespoke typeface for Costa Crociere, an Italian cruise company — it suddenly makes sense and explains well why Jean François Porchez focused so much on Italian Chancery mixed to a certain exotism. The curvy-pointed terminals of the Costa n can obviously get find on other glyphs, such as the ending of the e, c and some capitals. So, the sanserif looks more soft and appealing, without to be to pudgy or spineless. The general effect, when set for text, remains a sanserif, even not like Rotis Semiserif. Costa is definitly not a classical typeface, or serif typeface which convey past, tradition, historicism as Garamond does beautifully. Because of the Costa crocieres original needs, Costa typeface was designed to be appropriate for any uses. Anytime you’re looking for good mood, qualitative effects, informal tone, cool atmosphere without to be unconvential or blowzy, Costa will convey to your design the required chic and nice atmosphere, from large headlines sizes, brands, to small text sizes. It’s a legible typeface, never boring. A style without neutrality which doesn’t fit comfortably into any typeface classification! Does it proves the novelty of its design and guarantees as well as its originality? Its up to you to be convinced. Barcelona trip Originally not planned, this need appeared because of a trip to Barcelona at the time of the project, where Jean François was giving a lecture. He wanted to pay an homage to that invitation to create something special. So, he designed during his flight some variations of the Spanish Ch, following ideas developed by the Argentinian type designer Rubén Fontana for his typeface called Fontana ND (published by the Barcelona foundry Bauer). Then, he presented during his lecture variations and asked to the audience which design fit the best to their language. They selected the design you can find in the fonts today. The first design of Elensans consisted of 4 styles that are including two weights and their italics which I designed in my student years in 2002. It was designed with a little Art Nouveau style touch with inspired by classical geometric based fonts such as Friz Quadrata and Eras. It was updated with according to the orientations of the day in 2012 and eventually it took its final form with actual touches in 2020. Chatham is part of the "Staunton Script Family" of fonts designed by Ted Staunton for his historic novel centered around a family bible and the handwritten annotation through 7 generations. The Chatham font is overtly crooked and has an extreme right-leaning slant—perhaps we should call it "Cheney".

This engaging antique text face is based on Paragon Light, from the 1905 specimen book from Barnhart Brothers & Spindler. Although it is spaced and kerned for text work, it also is suited for headlines if you tighten the tracking. Both versions of this font contain complete Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Here’s another offering from the Baltimore Type Foundry, originally called Airport Tourist, which was obviously influenced by Paul Renner’s Futura Display, designed in 1932 for Bauersche Gießerei. This version features tight sidebearings and aggressive kerning, so your headlines will pack a punch. This font contains the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus support for Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

This typeface made its first appearance in Schelter & Giesecke's 1915 specimen book. It exhibits the cleanness and crispness one might expect in a sans-serif face, along with a few unexpected grace notes that make it warm and friendly, as well. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets.

I am not really sure if goldfish in general are lucky. They tend to swim in circles in a bowl, but maybe, years from now, scientists discover that these goldfish count themselves lucky to be in a bowl, rather than in a stream in Asia. Personally, I think they’d be better off in a stream. Lucky Goldfish font is a cute and happy font, ideally suited for book covers, posters and toy packaging. Comes with a school of diacritics too.

Volta is a robust typeface from the 1950s. A revisit to styles that were en vogue at the turn of the century, Bauer type foundry designers Walter Baum and Konrad Bauer designed this type family in1955. The form of Volta's letters are similar to those in New Transitional Serif typefaces, like Cheltenham and Century. Developed after the Didone (i.e., Bodoni) style types, New Transitional Serifs speak more to the zeitgeist of the late 19th Cntury, and were typographic adaptations to it's newer technologies.
