Hanglish transformed Korean character elements into an English font. Korean characters are the only characters in the world whose creator is known. It was created and announced on October 29, 1446 by King Sejong the Great so that the people could easily write and read the letters. It was created by arranging oriental calligraphic fonts.

Just before the end of 2020 all schools in Holland closed for the second time, because of an increase in the number of COVID 19 cases. This means that my wife and I have to educate our three kids at home. The kids are great and take their tasks seriously, but it is difficult, as all three of them require different educational levels. I am sure you parents understand. Trying to get some work done is virtually impossible, so my wife and I made a schedule and we live by ‘on duty’ and ‘off duty’ days. I was thinking of this when I created this font (obviously on an ‘off duty’ day). Home Education is a handwritten scribble font. It was made with a Sharpie pen (possibly used by one of my kids, because I noticed tiny ink stains on my wooden dining table…). It comes with all the diacritics you can hope for and lovely double letter ligatures for you to play with.

The characteristics of the earlier Renaissance typefaces are only barely detectable. The serifs are finer and the axis of the curvature is almost or completely vertical. The overall impression which Caslon makes is serious, elegant and linear. Next to Baskerville, Caslon is known as the embodiment of the English Baroque-Antiqua and has gone through numerous new interpretations, meaning that every Caslon is slightly different. American Type Founders presented a Caslon in 1905 which is true to the forms of the original. This font is relatively wide and comes complete with small caps and old style figures.

Time-tested elegance is what you’ll get with Geographica Script, a handwritten typeface steeped in 18th century sophistication. Source materials include the maps of Emanuel Bowen (circa 1694–1767), Geographer to King George II, as well as English and American trade cards from the middle 1700s, including the work of artist and printmaker William Hogarth (1697–1764). A kindred font to our Geographica serif family, Geographica Script is a painstaking replication of the elegant roundhand cursive seen in engravings of the period. ITC Temble was designed by Andreu Balius and draws influences from the European mediaeval period of King Arthur. The characters combine the angular qualities of mediaeval metallurgy with a modern tempo and the symbols included in the font exhibit the same stylistic forms. ITC Temble is perfect for work which should have a mediaeval or mystical appearance.

Bold Bavarian is a heavy version of my Royal Bavarian that was commissioned by King Ludwig 1st of Bavaria about 1834. I always thought, that I should design a really bold version and now finally I did. But I think it should not be mixed together with the normal version. A British boxing film from 1953 called “The Square Ring” had its titles and credits hand lettered in a slab serif type style commonly referred to as “Egyptian”. Other familiar type fonts which share this influence are Karnak, Stymie and Beton. Sporting Event JNL was modeled from the film’s titles and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

CA Fourty Open is another take on the idea of a double-line font. It reminds us of neon-sings, but lifts the 50s aesthetics to a contemporary level. Although it’s an all-caps font, upper and lower cases differ a little bit. The upper cases are more open. CA Forty Open has a full Central European letterset.

Fonts should be living, breathing organisms. Dino Feed wanted to see a font with character, so we created Groove Town Sans. This hand-drawn font has 122 glyphs and is made for Latin-based languages. A 1964 piece of sheet music entitled “Old Soldiers Never Die (They Just Fade Away)” was based on the farewell speech General Douglas MacArthur gave to Congress on April 19, 1951. This particular edition of the song sheet had part of his speech (as well as its title) hand lettered in a free-form sans serif reminiscent of the lettering done by such noted lettering artists as Paul Coker and Saul Bass. The casual and playful style of this type design became the inspiration for Swing Vote JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sheet music at the beginning of the 20th Century reflects both the musical and artistic tastes of the times in often colorful ways. It seemed to be a favorite thing amongst songwriters of that era to come up with very wordy song titles. The cover of the sheet music for 1907’s “Every Little Bit Added to What You’ve Got Makes Just A Little Bit More” checks in at fourteen words, but the hand lettered title (done in an Art Nouveau style) made it worthy of transposition into a digital type face. Nouveau Years JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Designal is a Félix Rufín design based on the DIN theme. The goal was to create a suitable unicase, an old dream of typographers. The icons collection —more than 400— is a result of Rufín’s obsession with label design. OpenType, 8 styles.

Hamuel Nine Five was inspired by two sources, both with few letters, and different styles. The first one was a fresco in the el-Transito Synagogue, Toledo, built in 1357 by order of Samuel Abulafia, treasurer to the king of Castile. The second one was a mezuzah cover, Morocco, 19th century. Hamuel Nine Five is an OpenType/TTF Unicode font.

Originally inspired by manufacturer badges on old laboratory equipment, Centrifuge sports soft geometric shapes, wedge serifs, and sharply-angled terminals. Quirky but versatile, Centrifuge can appear anywhere from formal and elegant to funky and chunky depending on how it’s set. Centrifuge is suitable for short-form text and headlines but really sings in an all-caps setting with generous tracking.

I first wanted to call this family Crowbone, after Olaf Tryggvason, the legendary Viking king from Norway. Somehow I changed my mind and went for Crowfeather, because this is not a Viking font and the name ‘felt’ better. Crowfeather is a family of two distinct fonts: a classic Serif and an old school script font. They work really well together!
