No, I did not have a splinter in my hand when I came up with the name for this font. It sounded right, so I used it! Splinterhand is a script font made with an almost dried out marker pen. It comes with a whole bunch of diacritics and it can be used for just about anything.

In one of our yearly type hunts, we came across the ancestor of this font, much wider and more decorative, with fine outside shading. Condition was poor so we did the obvious, cutting out the excess decoration and condensing the face optically. It reeks of dancing girls and drunken sailors and other colorful attributes of Old San Francisco.

I’ve never been one for zombies and all that. I did watch a couple of seasons of The Walking Dead, but after the 2.000.000th zombie got whacked, I had enough. When I made this font, it gave me a zombie feeling. One thing I learned from watching TWD was that zombies are always hungry. There you have it!

Wakandan is an alphabet designed by Hannah Beachler, and used in the 2018 film Black Panther. It is based on Nsibidi symbols. Since many years I live in Munich and read the daily newspaper Abendzeitung. One morning they had redesigned the paper, using Eric Gill's Joanna for the body copy and a tweaked version of Franklin Gothic for the headlines. Since both typefaces are my all-time favorites, I was very pleased. The old hand-lettered title lettering designed by in-house designer Ernst Friedrich Adler around 1947 or 48 was untouched as it always was. Adler had worked for the newspaper an incredible 47 years! Ernst Friedrich Adler celebrated his 100th birthday in the summer of 2007 looking very healthy. But someone had adapted his title lettering for use in the chapter headings, and I did not like the way that was done. Every morning I saw those letters and thought "one day I have to clean that up". About 15 years later I finally did it! Being at it, I designed the whole typeface and added a second fancy cut. And, what do you know, the people at the Abendzeitung called me up and said they liked what I did and started using it. So since that day in 2005 I can read my morning paper without having to wonder about the chapter headings. BLT Balfour : Art Deco Revival Font Balfour is a modern Art Deco typeface revival. Built from historic references in architecture during this time period, Balfour exudes class and elegance, yet still honors the style with unapologetic bold geometric forms. Pay close attention to the letterforms B and R, and how their extreme x-heights play off of the elongated strokes of C, D and G. Unique features throughout the character set make it less predictable and more unique than any Art Deco typeface before it. The geometry of this typeface plays from one letter to the next. Fabrikat Kompakt (formally known as Fabrikat) is a type family designed by Christoph Koeberlin with creative input of Hannes von Döhren. The Sans Serif family is published by HVD Fonts and consists of seven weights plus matching italics. Its geometric design is based on German 20th century engineers’ typefaces and has a plain and precise appearance. The shapes are optically corrected, yet retain an uncut charm. They work best in display as well as text sizes. Reba Samuels is based on the 2007 release Rebecca Samuels. While Rebecca was largely intended for text use Reba aims to be more versatile with an extended weight scope and added cut varieties. While Rebecca’s slab character is developed in the Reba serif, the ’seriffed’ italic of Rebecca is abandoned in favor of a simple italic sans, better matching the serif in plain text. The weight extremes are very useful for headlines while the middles do better in text. The robust and angular shapes of the serif matches the straightforward sans. The extreme contrast between the thin and the black cuts opens up great opportunities in any design project.

JetJane is a geometric sans-serif family. The family has two widths and each width has nine weights. Each of these 18 fonts comes with an accompanying italics version, giving the family a total of 36 members. JetJane, like other geometric sans faces, is plain, unadorned, and highly legible. It is derived from JetJaneMono, a monospaced sans-serif face. This development is unusual because one expects the monospaced variants to be created after the proportional variant, if a monospaced variant is even produced. This development history results in some distinctive differences between JetJane and two other geometric sans faces from IngrimayneType, AndrewAndreas and Yassitf.
