Each font from the TT Ricordi family was drawn by a separate designer and has its own story. The fonts have the broad support of Latin languages and support basic Cyrillic. The project originates from the pre-coronavirus tourist trips to Italy, during which our art director Yulia Gonina has accumulated many photographs of historical inscriptions and tablets. Many of these inscriptions had interesting character or unusual character shapes. We wanted to work with them, to try to reinterpret them, and, if possible, make them ultramodern and accessible to the modern font user. The fonts from the TT Ricordi typeface turned out to be quite display and contemporary, but at the same time, they retained subtle references to historic inscriptions. The fonts fit perfectly both on the covers of book classics and in glossy magazine layouts. They can also be used in posters and packaging, or as the main expressive element of company branding. In addition, all three serifs from the TT Ricordi font family go well with functional sans-serifs such as TT Norms Pro or TT Commons. TT Ricordi Nobili is a display serif with a rich Roman ancestry and contemporary world views. It stands out from the crowd with its subtlety and elegance. The font was drawn by Anna Tikhonova and was inspired by an inscription carved into the stone floor of a cathedral in Florence. Because people walked over the inscription, some of the letters got thinner and worn out over time. This is not an historically accurate font but rather one intended capture the spirit of ancient Roman manual type. Regina-Cursiv is a warm, bold, casual typeface. Its friendly, rounded curves remind me of the line from a gospel song by the Canton Spirituals, about "smoothin' up the roughway." Jointly released by the Bauer and Berthold foundries of Germany during the fin-de-siecle period, this typeface has some cultural flexibility. There are alternate versions of the uppercase ‘H’ and ‘I’ that can be chosen to reflect a humanist or blackletter tradition, whichever you prefer. Other alternates offer various stylistic choices. Regina Cursiv is a friendly, comfortable font. You will enjoy using it. Alternative letters: D, E, G, I, K, S, T, d, h, k, m, n and z. The numerals are old-style figures.

It seems that after the 1960s, very few display typefaces were being produced that had the desirability to transcend generations, as did many type designs of the past. In 1970, a local television station embraced a lettering style for its logo that was a cross between round point pen nib lettering and the modular, techno look complete with squared characters in a futuristic "space age" style. News Crew JNL was inspired by the few examples found of this particular font [in use by the station at the time] and was pretty much created from scratch in order to capture the 1970s era of experimental typography. It is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The inspiration source for Brass Rules Grand is a collection of the brass rules from the 1889 “Convenient Book of Specimens” from Franklin Type Foundry in Cincinnati. This is a collection of basic utilitarian brass rules that has been created as combinable and endlessly expanding. Linotype Schwennel is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This prize-winning font was designed by the German artist Svenja Voss. The figures seem to have been somehow eroded, parts of some strokes are completely missing, contours seem washed away. The eye works to put the pieces together to form a meaningful series of figures. The second weight, lila+negro, completes the letter fragments of the lila weight. Missing pieces are filled in and contours completed, making the resulting text stronger and a bit more legible. Linotype Schnwennel is intended exclusively for headlines in larger point sizes.

The town of Prescott was the capital of Arizona Territory from 1864 until 1912, when Arizona was admitted to the Union, and the capital moved to Phoenix. In 1986 Page Studio Graphics started its digital foundry in Arizona. The fonts are thoroughly pair-kerned, including all accented characters. Mr Dodo is a hand drawn typeface family with eight styles. Four weights with a rounded version for each one. It has uppercase and lowercase characters with up to three alternate glyphs. Each style was drawn separately. We did not interpolate any glyphs to keep an irregular, organic feeling. This way you can combine different styles without worrying that same characters will look like a awkward copy when standing close to each other. It has build in OpenType Contextual Alternates feature that will automatically set alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character (even in web font but only in HTML5 browsers). The script doesn’t just throw random glyphs.

For that reason, the descenders are extremely short, and the elements of the letters lying on the base line are cutten, the horizontal strokes are lowered ... Argyle Rough was originally developed for a packaging campaign in the late 80s in my studio and sat around in various stages of completion until I decided to autotrace my original drawings. I liked the quirky roughness and decided that it did not detract from the charm of the original, in fact it improved it and saved me a whole lot of work. The original campaign called for a few additional alternate characters for use at either end and double in the middle of words, ee, ff, ll, ss etc and a stylized Th, always useful. I hope you enjoy Argyle Rough, named after the world’s largest diamond mine – a rough diamond, get it?

First of all, let me get one thing straight: With Janky Action, I didn’t make any attempt on making a beautiful or good looking font! Janky Action is my humble attempt to recreate a sign I saw at a flea market. The sign was obviously made by someone who didn’t give a darn about the width of strokes, height of letters, and other “rules” when making a sign. I fell in love with the naive approach on how to make a sign. In order to create some randomness, I have added 4 different versions of each lowercase letter. I hope you find this font as enjoyable as I did while making it! :)

One of the best desserts I have eaten in my life was a treacle tart. I do know that it was in England and I do know that it was delicious. I really don’t know why I was thinking of that, but that pleasant memory did give me a name for this font. I am still learning my new font software, which is a bit of a slow process. The software I used for this font allows me to add several languages, which, hitherto, I couldn’t access. So, in short, this is my most multilingual font ever: it even includes Vietnamese and a bit of Hiragana and Katakana for you to get creative with!

This version of the family is part of the Reading Edge series of fonts specifically designed for small text onscreen, having been adjusted to provide more generous proportions and roomier spacing, and having been hinted in TrueType for optimal rendering in low resolution environments.

Although the 70ties were very liberating and progressive, still girls played mainly with dolls and sweet things and boys with all kinds of challenging stuff. They did all sorts of basic scientific experiments in mini labs and of course built cool things with Meccano building sets. As a girl I was perfectly happy with the toys I had access to. But at the same time I was very curious about all the adventure toys and discoveries my brother did. It also made me wonder why the grown up people thought that our world could be separated so easily by separating our toys in pink and blue sections. At this day of age Meccano is probably hopelessly old fashioned and far to manual. Children of today are fed by fast images and cool animations on screen, they learn, play, communicate and relax in the same space, the digital space. The special feature of Meccano was that even though it was very basic there was the promise you could create anything. It might even contribute to a logical mind. The typeface I designed refers to the Meccano feel. It is a creative typeface. A bit masculine and bold looking perhaps but after the first impression a subtle and refined female touch is revealed. It has links to architecture and associations with metal constructions like ‘The Eiffel Tower’ and (old railway) bridges. I am convinced that we all think of that as very charming man-made objects.
