Prêt-à-porter is a project developed as part of a series of type experiments appearing on the blog ‘Letritas’. Prêt-à-porter is a very expressive friendly font with a handwritten look, smooth curves and strong identity. Its counterforms make it a carefree, wild, cheerful, light and highly readable typeface. This type system consists of two Script families—Contrast and Linear—and a Slab family. The Contrast set works as a complement, providing more elegance and formal refinement. Both Linear and Contrast come in 5 weights plus Ornaments, which can be used as initial and terminal forms since they have been designed for connecting with each letter. SomaSkript is a natural extension to the basic Somatype font design, adding more variety to the family, all of which have similar features. Basically, by widening the uprights and maintaining the thin cross-bars it takes on more of a script-like quality, hence the name. Slanting the letters reinforces the script illusion and consequently brings a broader application to the font’s original format. When designing the Somatype alphabet originally, I always envisaged maximizing on its potential by creating an incised version. This variation not only emphasizes the implied script qualities within the name but brings out the softer, feminine side of the typeface. This evolutionary process creates a different looking font altogether and in turn the slanted version emphasizes the elegant quality even more so.

Lionheart is the digitization and expansion of Saladin, a neo-gothic typeface designed by Friedrich Poppl, long after he established himself as one of the greatest German designers of all time with some of the most “ausgezeichnet” scripts and text faces to ever come out of Europe. This typeface, though lesser-known among Poppl’s other masterpieces, was one of the first in its genre to abandon blackletter influence and attempt letter variations based strictly on Roman alphabet shapes. The design of the Tabwa font was inspired by the font Neuland designed by Rudolf Koch in 1923. Rather than attempting to re-create his font in a digital form as so many others have done, I have tried to capture the "spirit" of his font and merge this with the spirit of Africa. As a result the characters differ markedly from Koch's original styles and have much less of an "Art Deco" look to them. To further modernize the font I have included all the characters missing in Koch's original (a full lower case, as well as all punctuation, diacritics, special characters etc). The result is a thoroughly modern re-interpretation of the original "Neuland". The numbers (0 to 9) bear no relation to Koch's originals but, I believe, are far more in keeping with the alphabetic characters in the font. The triangles that decorate the characters of this African font are typical of the patterns found in the Tabwa culture of central and west Africa (in the Congo region).

An old ad for Cointreau Triple Sec Liquor featured a bolder variant of the lettering style found in a set of vintage tin stencils that were the model for French Stencil JNL. This is now available as Belle Epoque Stencil JNL, in both regular and oblique versions. “Belle Epoque” means “beautiful era” in French.

Geisha Holiday is an urban font with a unique look. The letters express slightly the formalized strokes of kanji characters but the overall tone is relaxation. Versals is based on Lombardic style letters which are sufficiently broad to allow for decorated piercing and flourishes. They may also form the basis of illuminated capitals. Westward JNL is an interesting variation on the popular wood type known as a French Clarendon style, or more popularly known as Western or Circus lettering. Based on an A-Z set of wood type pieces, this novelty approach of curved and wavy horizontal strokes is sure to grab attention when applied to headlines.

Strongbox JNL is based in part on an incomplete sample of an old wood type alphabet seen on an image sharing site. Commonly known as a grotesk (or grotesque) face, this style of sans serif lettering is well-suited for headlines, display work, price cards or anything where a bold, condensed typeface is needed.

Interoffice Memo JNL was inspired by an image of a plastic lettering template used for making mimeographed fliers in the days prior to the widespread use of photocopy machines. A classic Deco-style alphabet is on the upper case, with alternate A,E,F,L,M,N and W in the lower case set.

Monotes is an upper and lower serif font with balanced curves. Like all of my fonts inspired by letters from the good old days, but still has a strong modern look. A variety of alternative styles allow for versatile design options and work perfectly for headlines, logos, posters, packaging, T-shirts, postcards and more.

The name Grape Feud is obviously a wordplay, and is derived of the, sometimes, mistaken of the orange and the (often) purple fruits. But Grape Feud is also a playful and charming no-nonsense comic style font. The x-height is quite unpredictable, and I've added ligature for the most common double letter combinations.

Love Light was the first commercial font released to the public by Rob Leuschke. As a result of many requests to make this piece of hand lettering into a font, Love Light introduced the world to the TypeSETit foundry. A playful calligraphic style, Love Light is great for scrapbooking, cards, invitations and other fun things.

If you thought you heard someone callin' your name just now, you might have caught the firm but soft spoken tones of Comicraft's classy balloon lettering font, HushHush. Created in the style of the newspaper strips of the 30s and 40s, HushHush captures the slick movements of the skilled hand letterers of that era. Gracing the pages of Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's chart-topping BATMAN storyline -- which by a staggering coincidence was also called "Hush" -- these characters have brought to life the words of Two Face, The Joker, Scarecrow, Catwoman, Batman and Robin -- from every whisper to every scream.

Linotype Irish Text is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. German artist Torsten Weisheit designed this font based on Irish scripts of the 5th century. Characteristic of this style is the mixture of upper case letters in the mostly lower case alphabet and vice versa. The letters look as though written with a broad tipped pen and have triangular serifs, displaying a decorative tendency akin to that of Irish calligraphy. Linotype Irish Text is intended exclusivley for headlines in large point sizes.

A period piece is something of or pertaining to a specific era or time. Anything evoking a knowledge or feeling of an era can be labeled as such. The aptly named type font Period Piece JNL reflects the hand lettering found on the cover of early 20th century vintage sheet music entitled "My Baby's Arms" (from the stage production of "Ziegfeld Follies of 1919"). Although strongly akin to the coming Art Deco movement in its lettering style, Period Piece JNL still contains a strong influence of the Art Nouveau era of the 1900s through the 1920s.

Luftayah is a modern display typeface, designed by Anna Seslavinskaya in 2018. The typeface was inspired by the sociological concept of the “melting pot”, by a fusion of different cultures, isolated in a geometric form. Two traditions, Kufic script and German fraktur blend into a new symbiotic form. Luftayah adapt it for use in display contexts, as headings and book blurbs, through the use of a range of unusual combined characters and ligatures.

Supra-compressed – designed by Gert Wiescher in 2013 – is the extreme version of this family. But despite it being very slim it is still – because of its openness – a very readable font. The light and normal weights and the dominant x-height with its high ascenders make for easy reading of long copy. The heavy and x-light weights are great for elegant headlines. Supra is a versatile OpenType family with lots of different weights.

The inspiration source for Pantomime Monogram is an unusual Art Deco design from a vintage embroidery publication which combines both sans-serif and flare serif styles to create a diamond monogram format. This monogram, which evokes visions of it etched into bakelite, was originally intended to adorn handkerchiefs and towels, but it has so many other possibilities. It is one of many monogram designs from the early 1900’s which fall into a two letter format that is either adorned or interwoven with framing styles. Rotorua is a nice city in the Bay of Plent area of New Zealand. The area is famous for geothermal activity and every year thousands of tourists flock there to see the bubbling hot mud pools and the Pohutu Geyser. Rotorua font is a beautiful art deco typeface - with a twist. The font is all caps, but the lower case o, q and y differ. Rotorua comes with volcanic language support.

Scruff was designed by Timothy Donaldson in 1995. This cheerful, laid-back font is made out of a variety of different fragments - stripes, dots, zigzags and more, giving each character its own identity. When brought together into words and sentences, the figures create a playful chaos like that of a patchwork quilt. To bring out its individual details, Scruff is best used in headlines in larger point sizes or as initials.

Ladoga — one of the most beautiful Russian designs from the soviet period. The type family was developed in Polygraphmash in 1968 by Anatoly Shchukin on the base of his own lettering for book covers and titles. It was one of the first attempts in Cyrillic typography to create text face in a style of renaissance antiqua. Stylization to broad pen calligraphy resembles early forms of Latin types that were based on handwritten humanistic minuscule. Unique in its character set digital version of Ladoga was designed by Viktor Kharik on the base of artworks of Shchukin for ParaType. The family consists of roman and italic styles in text and display versions. Character set includes characters of original shapes as well as more modern alternatives. Besides there are a set of additional characters, old style figures and small caps. The fonts cover all modern languages based on Latin and Cyrillic scripts, Greek alphabet (including polytonic extension), Hebrew and historical Cyrillic letters. Ladoga is gorgeous in display sizes and pretty readable in texts. It’s well suitable for fiction literature, historical books, art criticism, religious and philologist works. It will be extreme helpful for multilingual issues and for inclusions into body text historical passages in original orthography. The family was released in 2010.
