The Brass Family has a lineage that extends into English history. About five hundred years ago a devout, but anonymous Englishman gave glory to the God he worshipped by designing the capital letters and decorations of these two fonts. Originally recorded in The History Of Mediaeval Alphabets And Devices by Henry Shaw (London 1853), they are described by Alexander Nesbitt in his Decorative Alphabets And Initials (Mineola, NY 1959) as “Initials and stop ornaments from brasses in Westminster Abbey.” I wish I could say I remember seeing them when I was there, but that was forty-two years ago and all I remember was seeing the tomb of Edward the Confessor. One definition of “stop” as a noun is a point of punctuation. I have heard people from the British Isles speak of a “full stop” when referring to a period. Some may remember a 19th century form of communication called a telegram being read aloud in an old movie, with the use of the word “stop” to indicate the end of a sentence or fragment. A full dozen of these stop ornaments are provided. They occupy positions 060, 062, 094, 123, 125, 126, 135, 137, 167, 172, 177 & 190. The Brass Family consists of two fonts: Brass and Brass Too. Both fonts have an identical upper case and ornaments, but paired with different lower cases. Although the typefaces from which the lower cases were drawn are both of modern design, both are interpretations of the textura style of blackletter in use in England when the upper case and ornaments were fashioned for the Abbey. Brass is paired with Morris Gothic, which matches the color of the upper case quite well. Brass Too is paired with Wedding Regular, which is distinctly lighter than the upper case. I find it very interesting how each connects differently. The resulting fonts are unusual and most useful for evoking an historic atmosphere.

When I first approached this design back in 2003 I wrote myself a design brief that called for a simple sans serif "avec serifs" (with serifs). Its emphasis needed to be on text usage but to be at home in display sizes. A range of weights with a controlled step from one weight to the next, uniform character sets, spacing and kerning throughout the range. Attention to openness of counter spaces would be paramount to work in text sizes. Matching italics should be true italics not merely slanted - with a cursive feel. During extensive testing I decided to include a suite of ligatures to eliminate the hairline gaps that occur between slab serifs at display sizes. The user may activate "Discretionary Ligatures" or "Stylistic Set 1" for ligatures that are not included in the Standard Ligatures (ff, fi, fl, ffi and ffl). This font was created while looking at the various shapes my handwriting consistently took, especially in the ways that letters would have breaks in them. Over the course of a few months I continually tweaked the letter forms and shapes, and lo and behold, I developed Deco Sans. This family currently only includes a thin weight, as I'm only one person, and very busy with college. I'm continuing work on a regular, bold, and possibly a future italic weight, but these may not be released for many months to come. As this is a very thin font, it should be used at sizes no smaller than around 16 or 18pt as it tends to get lost in whitespace, and looks best at large sizes. As such, this weight should be considered more of a display font than a text font, however, I predict a regular weight to be very readable and much more useable for the everyday.

The Enagol Math family consists of 4 weight plus True italics. It is a typeface with rounded Slab-Serif of Semi-Condensed proportions. I have composed all the proportions of the character based on a study of mathematical proportions related to the golden sequences of Perrin, Lucas and Fibonacci. From an initial matrix of golden proportions applied in the letters 'H' for capital letters and 'n' for lowercase letters, calculated for the versions of the extremes of the Light and Bold type, below I do the whole calculation of proportions using my formula of three axes and by interpolation I generate the intermediate versions Regular and Medium. For the Italic versions I have drawn a complete set of lowercase letters that give these fonts an aspect close to the Italic writing. In these versions I have also applied many optical corrections to balance the deformations created in many curves by the mere inclination of the letters, which in the case of this type is 11°.

RoyalBavarian was comissioned by King Ludwig the First of Bavaria about 1834. He was probably the greatest king Bavaria ever had, but he fell in disgrace for a short affair with the infamous Lola Montez and subsequently had to resign. He died in 1868, peaceful and happy in Nice on the French Riviera. I happened on an original etching of his type-guidelines for official writers of those days about 20 years ago. I always thought it was a very nice Fraktur (Blackletter), not a sturdy militaristic one as most of them are. Being me, I started with first tests immediately and then just forgot the font on my computer. When I was sorting out old stuff a couple of months ago I happened on the etchings once again and kept on working intermittently on the letters. The Plain cut is pretty much like the king wanted it. There's nothing really disastrous (impending or not) going on in my life right now, but I have always liked the expression. I thought about it when I watched a news item about the recent storm we had in Europe. The news showed footage of a person narrowly escaping a huge falling tree. Impending Disaster font is certainly no disaster. I created it using my fantastic Chinese ink and a broken tapas skewer (I seemed to have run out of my regular satay skewers). The result is a slightly rough, comic book kinda font. It comes with two sets of alternates for the lower case letters (which cycle as you type), one set of stylistic alternates for the 'O' glyph (and all accented O's), an alternate ampersand, asterisk, question mark and exclamation mark and a set of alternate numerals. Impending Disaster comes with extensive language support, including Vietnamese, Greek and Sami - so don't come running and say you didn't have any options! ;-)

I decided to create Hebrewish because the only Hebrew Latino font I have ever seen didn't really live-up to my expectations. Each Roman letter and Arabic numeral in this font is based directly on one or more of the Hebrew characters. Originally I was tempted to create an upper case only - since there is no lower case in Hebrew that I know of. But, as this would have limited it's usefulness, I changed my mind and added a lower case also. Nevertheless, those who want to create very Hebrew looking text, need only use the upper case. I've also added some typical Judaic symbols for the artistic minded, e.g. David's star *, the Menorah ^(Jewish candelabrum) and brackets{ } based on this, as well as brackets [] which, used together, produce a 'Ten commandments' stone-tablet symbol(use this [~] for another version). In short, you can either have some fun with this font or use it for serious work - the choice is yours.

Doretypo was born accidentally, during the design of a poster for a jazz festival in Rome. I was going to realize a typesetting, but I could not find the right character and decided to draw the letters I needed, starting from the first letter of the headline, capital M. I was looking for a lettering able to evoke musical notes, where each letter could be linked to the following one, to the previous one, to the largest at the top and the smallest at the bottom. From this idea doretypo came to life gradually. In the beginning there were a few medium capital letters with very few glyphs, but given the good results I decided to decline in light and bold, integrating minuscule letters, for a whole of 374 glyphs. Today doretypo OpenType is a family of fonts with three weights, 374 glyphs, supporting about 57 languages, ligatures standard, plus a new “NY”. Moreover, each glyph can be used individually to create textures and graphic symbols.

Giambattista is a long-time project of mine finally come to an end. After redesigning all of Giambattista Bodoni's work and then some additional cuts I started a long time ago with this Non-Bodoni Bodoni. The idea came to me while redesigning the original Chancellerosa (chancery). I thought Bodoni just didn't have the right approach to a chancery, this was just not his cup of tea! Maybe that is why he never used the Chancellerosa very much for his own printshop in Parma. So I thought someone has to design a script, that looks like Bodoni could have designed it but is more lively than his. Over the years I have been working on and off on the face and it turned out to become three typefaces which can be freely mixed. Here is my modern version of a script in the style of Giambattista, meant as an hommage, I called it Giambattista. Your modern scribe Gert Wiescher

Several roads have been closed around my village, so I need to drive alongside narrow country roads ro get my groceries done. The roads are so narrow that two cars cannot pass, so you need to use the (muddy) kerbs. A lot of cars these days have Xenon lights and they shine really bright and blue. I am non xenon-phobic, but I can tell you that the ‘old’ yellowish headlight were softer on the eyes, especially when you’re trying to navigate narrow country roads! Yes, I know, a long story leading nowhere, but a little personal story (in my opinion) is better than a boring text full of technical bla bla. A font is a font after all and I don’t need to explain what it looks like, because you can see that for yourself! Headlight Blue is a handmade, all caps display font. It comes with all the trimmings, including two sets of alternates that cycle as you type.

ITC Johann Sparkling is the work of Austrian designer Viktor Solt, a perfect imitation of the handwriting of an educated person of the 18th century. ITC Johann Sparkling is intended to close the gap between highly formal copperplate scripts and the scribbled look of 'true' handwriting," says Solt. "I am not very interested in highly formal and perfect calligraphy, but rather in quick, personal-looking scripts. Usually I start with some historical samples in mind, but I do not try to copy these sources. Instead, I incorporate them into my own handwriting. It takes up to two weeks, and many sheet of paper, before the respective script becomes my own. Of course, this would not be an economic approach for individual lettering jobs, but I can conserve the custom script for future use by digitizing it." ITC Johann Sparkling should be used in fairly large point sizes and its capitals only as initials.

OmegaPixel Font Description I created this font for the game Hyper Ninja Blast (but made it useful to all kinds of games!). While creating the game, I searched for pixel fonts, but could not find a suitable one. The fonts were generally ugly and lacking the basic variations (italic and bold). So I decided to create my own pixel font. Just as pixel art can be better than a high-resolution painting, so pixel fonts don’t need to be always worse than traditional fonts. In OmegaPixel I tried to achieve elegance, readability and flexibility within the limitations of a 6 pixel x-height. With 4 versions (regular, italic, bold and bold italic), and a neutral feel, OmegaPixel can be used in any genre of games. Considering the general lack of money among indie game devs, I’m giving the regular version for free! For inspiration, I often remebered Minion’s lowercase ‘a’, Galliard italic lowercase ‘g’, and the calligraphy of Chinese emperor Huizong.

Thirsty Cream is my handmade and slightly curly font. I had birthday greeting cards, invitations and products for kids. But I guess that it is useful for a good handful of other things. While the lowercase has it's curly moments, the UPPERCASE is quite steady and super legible

Nuuk is the capital of Greenland. It is the Kalaallisut word for "cape". I really like the sound of it, so I just had to name this font Nuuk. Nuuk is a whimsical, handmade serif font. It comes in four weights, each weight with its own Italic style.

I met her in a saloon called Little Texas. I was drinking mescal like it was vodka. She, tossing midgets like they were lawn darts. When the betting was closed, she launched an extra from The Wizard of Oz an impressive five meters, grabbed her margaritta and sat down.

Ramp Age was originally made with a brush, but I wanted a more rough look to it. I manually traced the brush-strokes with short, straight lines, making the font more characteristic in its look. Can be used for grafitti things, but fits in the horror-genre as well!

Scratch up started out by testing a brush pen I bought. I penned down two alphabets: one by pressing hard on the pen and one without pressure. The result is Scratch Up: a pair of roughish tall & thin fonts. Scratch up comes with all the diacritics you need.

Obsession has taken me completely in its spell. I could go on forever creating new forms for this script. But I have other fonts to do, so this is as far as my obsession goes for the moment. There are six different cuts and all letters can be mixed.

INTRODUCTION When I started the first Selfie back in 2014 I was aware that I was designing something innovative at some point, because at that time there were not too many, (if any) fonts which rescued so many calligraphy features being at the same time a monolinear sans. I took inspiration from the galerías’ neon signs of my home city, Buenos Aires, and incorporated the logic and ductus of the spencerian style. The result was a very versatile font with many ligatures, swashes and a friendly look. But… I wasn’t cognizant of how successful the font would become! Selfie is maybe the font of my library that I see the most when I finally go out, (type-designers tend to be their entire lives glued to a screen), when I travel, and also the font that I mostly get emails about, asking for little tweaks, new capitals, new swashes. Selfie was used by several renowned clients, became part of many ‘top fonts of the year’ lists and was published in many magazines and books about type-design. These recognitions were, at the same time, cuddles for me and my Selfie and functioned as a driving force in 2020 to start this project which I called Selfie Neue. THE FONT "Selfie for everything" Selfie Neue, because it’s totally new: All its glyphs were re-drawn, all the proportions changed for better, and the old and somehow naive forms of the first Selfie were redesigned. Selfie Neue is now a family of many members (you can choose between a Rounded or a Sharp look), from Thin to Black, and from Short to Tall (because I noticed the feel of the font changed notoriously when altering its proportions). It also includes swashy Caps, which will serve as a perfect match for the lowercase and some incredibly cute icons/dingbats (designed by the talented Melissa Cronenbold) which, as you see in the posters, make the font even more attractive and easy to use. You'll find tons of alternates per glyph. It's impossible to get tired with Selfie! Like it happened with the old Selfie, Selfie Neue Rounded was thought for a really wide range of uses. Magazines, Book-covers, digital media, restaurants, logos, clothing, etc. Hey! The font is also a VF (Variable Font)! So you can have fun with its two axes: x-height and weight, in applications that support them. Let me take a New Selfie! TECHNICAL If you plan to print Selfie Neue VF (Rounded or Sharp), please remember to convert it to outlines first. The majority of the posters above have the "contextual" alternates activated, and this makes the capitals a little smaller. I'd recommend deactivating it if you plan to use Selfie for just one word. Use the font always with the "fi" feature activated so everything ligatures properly. I named this font after one of my favorite songs by Soundgarden: "Rusty Cage". The font is a mishmash of letters, which were hand-drawn and given a photoshop overhaul to make them look grungy and grotesque. I mixed upper and lower case letters, added a whole bunch of alternate letters, spooned in some Salt and Calt and added a pinch of Liga as well. The result is a weird concoction, which looks good on posters, in ads and possibly even tattoos. I dare you!

In Holland we eat pancakes with black syrup and I always thought that this ‘suikerstroop’ was the same as molasses. Turns out that’s not the case; syrup is made from sugar, but molasses is a by-product of the sugar refining industry. To celebrate the fact that I learned something new, I named this font family Black Molasses. Black Molasses was made using various cheap brushes and Chinese Ink. It comes in a ‘fat’ version and a ‘light’ version that work together really well.

Bielik was created for a comic book that I’m working on. Main goal was to achieve random character of texts, so I made three glyphs for every letter, even for diacritics. Firstly I was drawing using brush pen with ink, so thickness of letters was really various. I decided to implement this style into a font. So that is how Bielik came into the world. This is good choice for comic books, children books, display designs and much more. Bielik is a polish word for Haliaeetus albicilla.

I don’t have a sweet tooth myself, but I do like toffee! One of my favourite desserts is English Sticky Toffee Pudding, so I really had to name a font after this delicacy. Sticky Toffee is a bold display font. It’s all caps (in case you might have missed that), but upper and lower case differ and can be used together to create a more ‘natural’ look. Sticky Toffee comes in two great styles: Regular and Sprinkles, and has all the diacritics you’ll need.

Tosca is a very elegant and decorative typeface with 730 glyphs. I put a second set of capital letters in the places of the smallcaps. So just type the word in lowercase, then select the first letter and convert it to smallcap in the OpenType menu. I also give you a ton of ligatures that can be accessed via OpenType. This typeface was inspired in my dragon drawings, I like dragons and I thought in designing a special font with that inspiration. As the picture tells it, I gave a beveled shape to its terminals, looking like brush traces. Some characters are intentionally opened to give it a distinctive appearance. The number "3" has a different form, combining a wide angle and an opened circle, variating the way to make it. This font is special for some titles and it can even be used in comic dialogues.
