During the 2019 "36 Days of Type" we created a leafy letter for each day. After the project finished we decided it wouldn't be the end and translated those letters into a workable font we named "Dias de Follaje". We also added a whole range of additional glyphs to cover the extended Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek scripts as well as filling in the punctation. The uppercase glyphs feature the leaves whereas the lowercase showcase the letterforms without leaves, allowing for a versatile and fun display typeface. Prints and specimen available HERE

Spotted amongst the online page scans from a vintage lettering book, the typeface originally called “Didot Moderne” served as the basis for Dual Line Roman JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. Caps Only Fonts.

A set-aside work file featuring a bold sans serif typeface that may or may not have had a vintage source history was given a new treatment. Initially, the solid design was converted to a stencil format and an experiment was undertaken to see what the alphabet would look like with a dual line treatment. Surprisingly, it turned out quite well and the end result is Dual Line Stencil JNL; available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sheet music for the title song from the 1933 Jean Harlow-Clark Gable film "Hold Your Man" has the movie title hand lettered in a dual line sans serif with Art Deco influences. This is now available as Dual Line Deco, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. The song itself was written by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown, whose vast catalog of musical compositions was tapped for the 1952 musical classic "Singing in the Rain".

Within the 1893 edition of the Barnhart Bros. & Spindler type specimen book is “Bisque”, a text and headline type face with a charmingly eccentric look. Some upper case characters take on more of a squarer look than others, while the lower case has a higher ‘x’ height. This type revival is now available as Soup and Salad JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Dia de los Muertos is a colorful collection of skulls based on the lively Mexican fiesta celebration where skulls are used as humorous epitaphs of people still alive, besides being a symbol of celebration. This font is good clean fun. "Kopa" is a word that means "soap" in the Hawaiian native language. The thickness and rounded edges mimic the form of solid soap. Some additional design involving the base of the glyphs brings out the style just a bit more. This font works especially well with colorful designs.

Don't let its retro charm dissuade you from taking it for a spin in more contemporary settings; it might just surprise you! Now for the features bit: OpenType features include ligatures, swashes, contextual alternates and stylistic sets. The stylistic sets are 1. swap the script r swap to a normal r, 2. swap the script upper case i to a more familiar seriffed version, 3. the number four changes to an open form, and lastly, 4. loopy ascenders in the lower case close in and lose the hole. You should not use this in all caps settings. Pretty please.

Here's another example from the William H. Page Company, originally called French Clarendon XXX Condensed No. 117. This version dials up the contrast, making it suitable for tight headlines in large sizes. Both versions of this font support the Latin 1252, Central European 1250, Turkish 1254 and Baltic 1257 codepages.

Mordings JNL is an odd-lot collection of images. These assorted dingbats are leftover art that never quite made it to one particular dingbat font category, but together comprise an eclectic assortment. Our Purple Purse Pro draws its inspiration from a vintage Ivory Soap ad from the 1950’s. Somewhat of a cross between Bodoni and Pixie, this font finds that it never truly takes itself seriously. A 1930s-era hand-lettered sign advertising a club lunch (consisting of soup, salad, dessert and coffee for 35 cents) provided not only the Art Deco lettering style but the name for Club Lunch JNL.

Hey Comrade is a very messy script font. It was made with a bamboo satay skewer (which I had soaked in ink). Hey Comrade would look good on book covers, packaging and in magazines. Comes with a 5-year plan of diacritics.

An offbeat typeface inspired by the titling of the 1969 Pink Panther cartoon starring the Aardvark, "Technology, Phooey". It contains an alternate H and T, as well as a handful of ligature swap outs for doubles like EE OO SS TT, etc.
