EmBauhaus is a display typeface, geometric in style, inspired by the face named after the world changing Bauhaus School. To aid readability I rethought the original typeface and closed all of the voids cut out of the strokes. We also modified the upper case to make it a more traditional design. An example of this is the upper case L, where a 90 degree angle was added.  This typeface was designed to be used judiciously in a layout, to draw focus to words and headlines, using stark angles, radii and geometry to create visual rhythm and gestalt.

What I needed in my projects was a solid oldstyle serif typeface with impact for heads. I had an old engraving font, which I’d never really finished. It happened to be built on the Minister/Diaconia base drawings I used to create Biblia Serif, so I took a shot at it. It’s wide enough to minimize the large solid ink shapes of many of the bolder display headline faces. It’s not readable, but it’s very legible. This is exactly what I needed for headlines, callouts, and special subheads. It uses the same vertical metrics of the Biblia Serif book Production Group It helps keep fiction designs comfortable

He named Gertrud after his better half, but was also inspired by old handwritten documents: "Gertrud is a calligraphic letter design from the 16th century. I used it when I engrossed diplomas with a flat-nibbed pen in the 1980's. When I got my Mac I generated the typeface in Fontographer." Gertrud (the typeface) comes in three weights, with roman and italic. It is an OpenType creation, for both PC and Mac. Swedish type foundry T4 premieres new fonts every month. Bari Sans is a solid grotesque typeface with tense curves and compact proportions, but also more subtle details like the angled terminals, the double storey g and the distinctive shape of the lowercase a. Designed to look robust and masculine, this family is also quite versatile with its 9 weights, ranging from thin to black, plus matching italics. Each font include over 500 glyphs with several OpenType features and 8 stylistic sets: alternate lowercase a, g, l, and y, alternate uppercase I and J, alternate quotation marks... Tabular figures, localized forms, ligatures and automatic fractions are also present, among others. Check the pdf specimen for more details.

DecoSpring is a decorative art-deco family that was inspired by one word in an advertisement in a 1978 edition of my local newspaper. I could not find a typeface that matched it so decided to create one, which became DecoSpring-Regular. It is caps only, with an alternative set of capitals on the lower-case keys. Characters with very thick stems invite interior decoration and I opted for floral decorations. DecoSpring-Flowers can be used alone or it can be layered on top of the regular style to create colored flowers. Changing the width of the bolder stem resulted in two more style, the light and thing styles. Another set of four styles, the Simple set, was formed by eliminating the split in the stems by merging the two parts. All the DecoSpring faces are display faces to be used in small doses, and especially the bolder ones, at large point sizes.

The first plain weight of Cutoff was designed in 2005 to be used in Miele, an independent Italian free magazine. The need was for an elegant, unusual and legible semi-serif with contemporary flavour. I was fascinated by the deconstructivist work of Jeff Keedy (Hard Times Thick), Phil Baines (Can You, You Can) and Otl Aicher (Rotis), so my aim was to get the feeling of a cut transitional typeface; at the same time felt the exigence to work on the whole shape of the glyphs, in order to soften the “90s deconstructivist” effect and obtain a more balanced and readable design. In the last years I further worked on the typeface adding the other styles, extending the character set and refining the letterforms. Finally the precious collaboration with URW++ brought in 2010 to a complete OpenType Pro font family, with multilingual and advanced typographic features. Fulvio Bisca, July 2010

1776 Independence was designed inspired mainly from the Caslon typeface used by John Dunlap in the night of 1776 July 4th in Philadelphia to print the first 200 sheets of the Congress' Declaration of Independence establishing the United States of America. I just added accented letters and a few others, with respect for the original design. A render sheet,enclosed with font file, help to identify them on keyboard. It can be used as web-site titles, posters and fliers, editing ancient texts, menus or greeting cards as a very decorative font... The Tang family came to be, when I started studying fonts made for use in very small point sizes, like Bell Gothic. I studied the use of ink traps and went to town with them. Instead of just using them for their purpose: trapping ink to prevent the type getting blotted; I used them as a design feature. With those features Tang works very well in both headline and text use. I use it as a house type, and I've already seen it in a beer and cider labels.

Back in 2013 I released an all caps font called Rum Doodle. Rum Doodle is a really nice, really weird font with angular glyphs and a unique look. I decided that it would be nice to tweak this font a bit and design a lower case for it. The result is Chew On This. I chose that name for no apparent reason - so don’t make a fuss about it…

Invites is a digital recreation of a 1920’s mechanical script that has never existed. I designed it for my wedding invitations last year and named it in honor of my (ex)wife. Who said it wasn’t her. And she was right. So now it’s called something different. I wanted a sweet, romantic name ... Iris? Taken. Lily? Taken. Iris Lily? Cumbersome. I wanted something short and inviting. Uh ... hmmm.
