Serat is a medium contrast flared serif with mixed up styles of classic typefaces which is highly influenced by early stages of Latin based hand writing. The lowercase are modernized versions of Carolingian minuscules, vertical stems which touch the baseline have been modified to have horizontal cut for simpler look and keep the calligraphic style for terminals & stroke ends. Then the uppercase are flared serif which were influenced by Roman inscriptional capitals. The font name was taken from the Javanese word "serat" which means writing (noun). Several roads have been closed around my village, so I need to drive alongside narrow country roads ro get my groceries done. The roads are so narrow that two cars cannot pass, so you need to use the (muddy) kerbs. A lot of cars these days have Xenon lights and they shine really bright and blue. I am non xenon-phobic, but I can tell you that the ‘old’ yellowish headlight were softer on the eyes, especially when you’re trying to navigate narrow country roads! Yes, I know, a long story leading nowhere, but a little personal story (in my opinion) is better than a boring text full of technical bla bla. A font is a font after all and I don’t need to explain what it looks like, because you can see that for yourself! Headlight Blue is a handmade, all caps display font. Amoresa script was handwritten under inspiration of traditional calligraphy and the wonderful mystic soundtrack of Wojciech Kilar. Inspired in the world of the fast-food, my aim with Burger was to achieve a sexy slab serif font. Since it's not very common to see slabs with swashes I consider this project as an experiment with interesting results. In order to mantain an even weight on the written word, all the glyphs including the swashy ones had to look like compact blocks: This makes the font work much better used with almost no leading, as seen in posters above. Despite the formal look of its genre, this slab serif is also very playful and unique. (Maybe unhealthy food deserves better fonts already, right?) Taste Burger, come on, give it a try! Cumbre is a slanted display type with unorthodox anatomy, a dynamic rhythmic structure, movement expression, and intense visual language. "Cumbre" in Spanish means summit, and that's the motive for the spiked design and the angular serrated structure. Cumbre is built by balancing sharp angles and venturous curves. The stems are spiky, and they vary in width. Cumbre is slanted and unicase. It has condensed proportions, moderate weight contrast, spacious counters, pointy terminals, and square ink traps. That experience left a mark on me that over the years mixed up with my practice as a type designer. “Caligrafía Inglesa” is, basically, the spanish translation for the copperplate calligraphic style. This was the initial idea that led the spirit of the project, but from the beginning it started to develop a typographic personality of its own. The new Inglesa font comes in 6 weights –from a skinny monolinear to an elegant black– with a companion set of roman caps. This series, with 104 illustrations in three files, collects original ink drawings with absurdities, bizarre people, whimsical personalities and risky behaviors! There is a very peculiar sense of narrative in the sucession of characters, even if they came out rather spontaneously and their order is random.With a vintage look and feel, these people seem to come out of a time capsule from Victorian times. Almost everything in the Bizarries (and also in their close relatives, our Illustries, Whimsies, Ombres, Absurdies and Genteta dingbats) is invented and drawn with no references —just a handful of images were sketched from historical photography. These illustrations can be very useful for a variety of projects, either in black and white, or colored in a paint or drawing application. You can use them at any size, from a small spot illustration to a huge poster, depending on your needs. The outlines remain crisp and clear no matter how much you enlarge, reduce, distort or tweak their shapes.

This font was created while looking at the various shapes my handwriting consistently took, especially in the ways that letters would have breaks in them. Over the course of a few months I continually tweaked the letter forms and shapes, and lo and behold, I developed Deco Sans. This family currently only includes a thin weight, as I'm only one person, and very busy with college. I'm continuing work on a regular, bold, and possibly a future italic weight, but these may not be released for many months to come. As this is a very thin font, it should be used at sizes no smaller than around 16 or 18pt as it tends to get lost in whitespace, and looks best at large sizes. As such, this weight should be considered more of a display font than a text font, however, I predict a regular weight to be very readable and much more useable for the everyday.

On a cold winter's night, George Ryan, of Galápagos Design Group, began musing on the possibilities for a “truly original” sans serif typeface. Ryan explains how he did it: “The rounded ends of its strokes and their skewed baseline contact create an illusion of dancing feet. The tops of lowercase stems emit serif buds, suggesting transition into or out of the serifed form. The spear-like lowercase stroke terminators, along with other distinctive elements such as the stylized reticulation of the lowercase 'g' segments, the salute of that same character's spur, and the bold, non-self-conscious 'i' and 'j' dots, all contribute to the playful and unique nature of this design.” The result is a friendly, lively type family whose graduated weights -- book, medium, and heavy -- lend themselves especially well to use at small display sizes and in short blocks of text.

Amarone is a spiky calligraphic display typeface with some old fashioned flavour. It was designed by Carl Crossgrove, and includes an extensive set of swash caps which allow for extra drama where needed. Crossgrove wrote each of Amarone's letters by hand using pen and rough paper, and has retained some of this visual texture in the final digital design. The typeface works well at small sizes, but when used at larger sizes this texture comes to the fore. Amarone's elegant, formal character can be modified with its swash caps, which allow the typeface to move from prim and ordered to wildly expressive. Amarone lends itself well to packaging, posters and editorial usage – or in any environment where designers need to evoke times gone by. Linotype Projekt was created by German type designer Andreas Koch with both a well-defined inspiration and goal. It occurred to me that typefaces like Helvetica and Univers seemed to have a higher quality in hot-metal composition as with modern digital typesetting. They are stronger and livelier. This is in part due to the printing process, which presses the characters onto paper, and in part to the forms of the letters, which differ from the PostScript version of the same typeface. An important aspect of printing is the slight increase in character width resulting from the pressure which also serves as an optical correction to the forms. (True exact squares appear slightly barrel-formed to the eye.) I wanted to revive this peculiarity, not because of a nostalgic feeling, rather just because it is more attractive."
