Obvia, a geohumanist type for all media. Obvia appeared as a result of direct observation on typefaces classified as geometric and the plan to explore for the first time width axes - to be published soon - expanding its usability. The idea behind Obvia’s design was to create a distancing from geometrically pure shapes, in this case, square shapes. Then some details were added, such as subtle inktraps, concave endings of the stems and carefully drawn alternate characters, giving a ‘geohumanist’ tone to the font. This first family of Obvia has 9 weights ranging from Thin to Black with their respective italics, delivering a strong typographic identity, from the paper to the pixel.

Replay is a pure hymn to the classic typeface Caslon originally made by William Caslon (1692–1766). The typeface that bears his name, was made between 1720 and 1726. In 1739 he founded the Caslon Foundry which later become a property of Stephenson, Blake & Co., but remained an independent foundry until 1937. The typeface have been popular ever since it was made and still stand proud as a classic text face. MRF made detailed research, including versions from Adobe and Justin Howes. The end result is leaning more towards the original. Some minor »imperfections« are also incorporated in order to make the typeface more lively and old fashioned.

Program is a type designer’s typeface. It’s about the craft of typeface design and the particular details and effects that type designers fret over when they design type. It mixes different structures, stem endings, and weight distributions not usually employed in a single family of fonts. It features both rounded edges evoking the effects of reproduction, and ink traps, the technique used to counteract that effect. The idea was to create a series of fonts with strong individualistic features, challenging the constraints of a central theme that is usually imposed on a family of fonts, while still relating to each other in terms of overall look and feel.

Based on the rough sketches of the founder of Plan A Ontwerp, Frank Vogt, Characters constructed, mastered and finetuned the complete Plan Family. Kudryashev Display is a set of light and high-contrast faces based on Kudryashev text typeface . In addition to Kudryashev Display and Kudryashev Headline faces, the type family includes also two sans-serif faces of the same weight and contrast, with some alternates. The graceful nature of the typeface, along with carefully designed details, allows to use it in large point sizes, for example in magazine layouts, packaging design and in many other ways. The serif styles were designed by Olga Umpeleva in 2011, the sans styles were created by Isabella Chaeva in 2015 with the participation of Alexandra Korolkova. The typeface was released by ParaType in 2015.

The concept is “Geo-Soft”: characters are constructed from arcs of circle connected by orthogonal straight lines, with few diagonals and nary a sharp corner. The effect has an engaging tension, as soft edges are carefully balanced against rigorous structure. All four of the main weights, including italics, have exactly the same metrics. What a nice tranquil feeling you get from the wide forms of this font. The air of spontaneity was the most important thing about developing Rifleman. The forms were carefully and slowly constructed and then loosely traced with a paintbrush. Maybe the original drawings will become a font someday but i like to think that they won't for some reason. Surprisingly Rifleman is left to only the bare essential elements, anything that wasn't necessary was left out or removed. The goal was to make it as lightweight as possible to make up for the intricate detail. Rifleman is a surprisingly lightweight font offering lends itself to speedy typesetting!

Holografik is a Neo-Grotesk sans serif font inspired by scientific progress, existential wonder, and social oneness. With its wide structure and light airy weights, Holografik is an optimistic take on a Grotesk font. The stark Swiss style of the characters is softened with playful curved details, such as a bowed descender in the lowercase y, connected descenders in the alt lowercase g and y, and the curved bottom serif in the alt uppercase B and D. Alga is a high contrast modern typeface with a contemporary look. It has subtle details that make it appealing for big sizes and headlines. It is a lively and charming serif typeface with lots of fancy curves. It is a serif typeface that will shine in headlines and short pieces of text. It also works in smaller sizes, but it is not for the tiny text sizes. Alga started from an exploration of the thinner weight with this idea of a tall and elegant serif typeface with low contrast. Then it evolved to be a high contrast font in the bold weight. But always keeping its style and personality.

Jure Stojan first created JY Klin for a student magazine in Ljubljana, Slovenia. ‘It was borne out of my frustration with layout [programs] and their taste for messing with decent fonts (making the headline occupy the entire column width at any cost, for instance). Therefore, I designed a “heavy duty” display font—it can be extended up to 120 per cent without any loss in quality (it is fairly condensed, so no one could think of squeezing it any further). I even used the font, stretched by the very 120 per cent, for 10 point text and the result was surprisingly legible (given some peculiar details prominent at display size).’
