Opinion varies regarding the role of Claude Garamond (ca. 1480–1561) in the development of the Old Face font Garamond. What is accepted is the influence this font had on other typeface developments from the time of its creation to the present. Garamond, or Garamont, is related to the alphabet of Claude Garamond (1480–1561) as well as to the work of Jean Jannon (1580–1635 or 1658), much of which was attributed to Garamond. In comparison to the earlier Italian font forms, Garamond has finer serif and a generally more elegant image. The Garamond of Jean Jannon was introduced at the Paris World’s Fair in 1900 as Original Garamond, whereafter many font foundries began to cast similar types. The famous Stempel Garamond interpretation of the 1920s remains true to the original Garamond font with its typical Old Face characteristics. The bold italic was a modern addition at the end of the 1920s and the small caps provided an alternative to the standard capital letters. In the mid 1980s, a light version was added to Stempel Garamond. Since its appearance, Stempel Garamond has been one of the most frequently used text fonts.

Mark van Bronkhorst designed MVB Celestia Antiqua at a time when font choice was limited. Design was characterized by overuse of the few fonts that came with laser printers. A rustic typeface, recalling the roughness and irregularity of pre-digital printing, was a response to the cold crispness of DTP. MVB Celestia Antiqua holds its own among a large group of other “weathered” serif fonts, in part due to the size of the family: three weights, small caps, italics, and two titling styles. But it's also successful because it's simply drawn well, the contours only as rough as they need to be, enabling text at any size, large or small.

The initial characters in China Market were created in 1996 for a logo featuring the Temple of Heaven in Beijing where emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties worshiped heaven and prayed for abundant harvests. The font was completed in 2010. It is composed of a regularly positioned curved and straight components as if part of a decorative grillwork or other architectural detail. While its influences and origins are clear, its appearance is relies more upon the geometry of its basic elements and the modular structure than a specific stylistic idiom.

Bongani has its origins in wood-carved African design and art. The letter forms are informal and asymmetric and the "decorative" elements are matched to each letter shape and have no mechanical rigidity. It is was designed for situations that require: -- the look and feel of Africa -- strong ornamental headlines It can be effectively used in advertising and in applications such as greeting cards and book covers. Influences came from typefaces like Futura Black by Paul Renner and Motter Ombra by Othmar Motter, but also Stilla by François Boltana and Allegro by Hans Bohn lay on the desk. All these ingredients were mixed to a new and contemporary type experience and packed in proper OpenType files Oliva & Oliva Italic are OpenType Pro, featuring full Western, Central European, Baltic, Turkish and also Cyrillic language support. They contain ligatures, superior numerals, and a stylish set of decorative ornaments and arrows.

Yngreena is a serifed typeface with calligraphic origins. In updating it in 2011, I began to add alternative letters and reached the point where it made sense to create an alternative family of faces rather than include all the alternatives as part of an OpenType font. The letters K, R, V, W, Y, f, g, k, t, v, and w are tamer in Yngreena Alt. As a result, though it is still a decorative text face, Yngreena Alt is better suited for lengthier blocks of text than is the original Yngreena face.
