Visum means Visa in Dutch. The name was inspired by Dutch soccer club Vitesse's rather sad decision to leave Israeli player Dan Mori behind, after he was refused a UAE visa because of his nationality. ITC Ziggy was designed by Bob Alonso, who says it started out as phone doodles in the early 1970s." This font was inspired by the old form of the so called "Kurrentschrift" German handwriting, based on late medieval cursive. It is also known as "Alte Deutsche schrift" ("Old German script"). It was taught in German schools until 1941, when Adolf Hitler decided to forbid it. As it is a little hard to read, we are proposing here two versions: the "pure" Kurrentschrift, and an adapted "Easy" one, with simplified difficult characters.

I never needed to digitize this early design from 1988. I found it in a drawer underneath layers of dozens of other type designs. The drawings were made with ink on paper, about 15 cm high, meticulously executed and retouched separate glyphs for a primitive photo-lettering. I used a photographic magnifier to set words and lines in my darkroom. In 2018 I decided to make a font out of it just for fun...

Umerica first made its appearance in 2007 as a series of characters in a pdf I posted to Typophile. It has taken a lot of time, and determination, for me to finally decide to complete it. I had the basic font completed in 2008, but put it aside as the creation of the italics it deserved were beyond me. That was then. Now the italic version has finally been added twelve years later.

Secca Art recovers some of the expressive forms of early art nouveau and art deco grotesques — not copying it, but carefully adapting it for today. Secca Art is based on the Secca typeface family and is full interchangeable. The idea for the typeface Dekalb was born in 2013 after a day of photographing signage, murals and graffiti around Dekalb and Wyckoff avenues in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The initial drafts of the letterforms were first made into a single ultra-weight font that I used while working as the Creative Director for Sneaker News Magazine. After having made its first appearance in Sneaker News, I decided to expanded Dekalb to an eight style family.

After visiting Milan, I stumbled upon the Sforza castle, and found some interesting type on the inner courtyard castle walls. I became inspired by what I found, and decided to design a typeface based off of the limited quirky letterforms. Thus Sforza was born, with ligatures galore, alternates, pictograms, and swooshes. Sforza is a roman style typeface with a quirky flair. It has loads of ligatures, nested letterforms, and tails and swooshes for endless combinations.

Erdogan Karayel, a master in graphic arts and a cartoon artist, has long dreamed of transforming characters made up of his own handwriting into fonts. This dream has come true with the technical support of Karayel's school friend Sabahattin Kayış, a graduate of the Istanbul School of Applied Fine Arts (Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts). The biggest problem of handwritten fonts in the font world is the difficulty of reading in long texts due to their curved and flexible letters that create spacing problems when used side by side. The "Karayel Calligraphy", on the contrary, is created as a solution to this problem. It's a font that is sufficiently fluid, visually satisfying and easy to read.
