I designed Conium to be a sister font to Nightshade. It was meant to have the appearance of the hemlock plant without being too derivative; it’s thin drooping stems conjure images of Hamlet’s mad Ophilia clutching sickly weeds while thinking them to be flowers. It also projects the appearance of an ice cold, wrought iron, cemetery gate. The sort that one might pass on a damp overcast day. A fitting compliment to an Edward Gorey illustration from top, right down to the frigid ground from which it sprang. This family was created inspired from two French (one so common and a very rare large one) "toy print" boxes, named Le petit imprimeur, with rubber stamp characters from the 1920's. The big difference from our 1920 My Toy print is that this font is complete, with upper and lower cases, accented, complete punctuation and some symbols. A handwritten ”font for technicians“ from ca. 1900. Very geometrical, rigid forms borrowed from the typical characteristics of Jugendstil / Art Nouveau. This script is found in an old magazine which was issued sometime in the years shortly before WWI. The original copy, produced by means of a galvanized plate, is just 7 centimeters wide. It served as the model for technical professions in which, at that time, the captions of drawings were still done by hand. ingoFonts has not only digitized this beautiful typeface, we have also extended it to a whole family. In »Maier’s Alte Nr. 8« special attention was given to ensure the ”uneven“ edges, typical of handwritten script, remained effectively noticeable even in the digitized form. As a result, this ”technical“ font retains a handmade touch, while »Maier’s Neue Nr. 8« is the clean version with exact contours. The Art Nouveau forms, which are characteristic for the period of origin around the turn of the century around 1900, look especially pretty. Bactrian (Bactrian: Αριαο, ariao, [arjaː], meaning "Iranian") is an extinct Eastern Iranian language formerly spoken in the Central Asian region of Bactria (present day Afghanistan) and used as the official language of the Kushan and the Hephthalite empires.Bactrian, which was written predominantly in an alphabet based on the Greek script, was known natively as αριαο [arjaː] ("Arya"; an endonym common amongst Indo-Iranian peoples). Eckhardt Titling JNL is another treatment of a popular typeface that lends itself well to the hand-lettered sign and display work of days past. A clean sans serif with a slight touch of Art Deco, this font renders well from small point sizes to large posters. As with other fonts in this series, it is named in honor of Jeff Levine’s good friend Albert Eckhardt, Jr. who owned Allied Signs in Miami, Florida from 1959 until his passing.
