When I was in high school, I would wreck my notebooks with multiple layers of graffiti tags, which would start in the margins, and then creep in to cover the entire page. I developed a sensibility towards a very fast, expressive use of my hand, which later easily and naturally translated into brush. I used this style typographically on several projects throughout the years, and even turned it into a signature illustration style. Recently, by repeating letters hundreds of times each with brush on paper, this ad-hoc brush style became Streetbrush. The style is characterized by a unique blend of urban grafitti meets Asian calligraphy. The font is best used for large titling or signage, as it is extremely detailed and really captures the feeling of a brush pulling ink across a textured surface. UTOPIAN is a color font family based on primary colors and pure geometric shapes, influenced by Bauhaus, DeStijl and Art Deco. Its pure shapes and basic colors are inspired by the beauty of simplicity of modular order and grid, creating a perfect environment where all these elements live in a perfect color harmony. In the other hand, DYSTOPIAN, the black and white family, represents a close sibling in appearance and structure, that carries an opposite meaning, with a darker look and feel. Both typefaces are, somehow, a reflection of the divided views and posible outcomes that the future times ahead yield before us. Tuscan X Condensed (whose actual name is Gothic Concave Tuscan Extra Condensed) was first produced in wood type by William H. Page & Company around 1872. The design is derived from a Gothic Condensed typeface, but with vertical stokes bowing inwards at the center. We modified the weight of the uppercase characters (since the original wood type has a lowercase much thinner than the caps) to harmonize with the lowercase when used digitally.

In drawing the Avenir® typeface, Adrian Frutiger looked to both the past and the future for inspiration. His goal was to reinterpret the geometric sans serif designs of the early part of the 20th century in a typeface that would portend aesthetics of the 21st century. He succeeded handsomely. In doing so, Frutiger added a bit of organic humanism to the design, freeing Avenir from the rigid geometric overtones of the earlier designs. Avenir is employed on signage at Dallas Fort Worth and Hong Kong international airports. The city of Amsterdam adopted Avenir as its corporate typeface in 2003. The original Avenir family is made up of designs with gradual weight changes in order to satisfy the needs of specific text applications.
