VAG Rounded Next brings a classic 1970s typeface up to date, keeping all of its easy going, approachable personality but adding some much-needed versatility and language support. The birth of the monospaced types dates back to the past. There was a need for the creation of typesets for typewriters. The difficulty was to align the different glyphs in the same width. This led to particular problems with letters like “M” and “l”; the former seemed to be squeezed into the same width of all letters and the second one appeared way too streched. Despite – or perhaps because of – the impression of the typewriter is still popular with Graphic Designers. Nowadays there are even monospaced versions of primarily proportional types; for example the the Sans Mono designed by Lucas de Groot or the DIN Mono. Then again, why not the other way round?! In the first half of the Nineties, Erik Spiekermann developed a proportional type named ITC Officina based on the Letter Gothic. According to a survey on the 100 best fonts of all time conducted by FontShop, ITC Officina is in an eighth place, far ahead of its forerunner. This was the reason for me to create a wider design with a Serif and a Sans Serif based on the queen of all monospaced types – the Courier.

A Monogram is a lettering character made up of the main letters of a name and sometimes all of them. It is a kind of design which dates from the earliest times of our history. This is the kind of letters I drew in school back in the 1980ies. I would never have guessed that I would do the same thing like 40 years later! I remember making a simple space game for my VIC-20 computer, and I needed some "data letters" (as I called it) - as far as I can remember, this is close to what I made 40-like years ago. Also, I was inspired by the well known series "Stranger Things" - you know, all that 80ies theme stuff took me down memory lane! :) Anyway, all the letters are handdrawn, using a squared paper as guide - at it may look simple, but it took me quite some time to finish this font (hence the name!)

Sackers Gothic is part of the larger Sackers series, a collection of fonts drawn from templates for producing engraved stationery and social cards by Gary Sackers, a Charlotte, North Carolina intaglio printer. Many typefaces were made from similar sources, including Monotype’s Engravers series, as well as Jim Spiece’s ITC Blair, and Mark van Bronkhorst’s Sweet Sans. Sackers’ typefaces, which were initially made into photo-set type, were digitized by Compugraphic and released in the late 1980s. Sackers Gothic has since become a popular choice for conveying sincere and plainspoken language on dust jackets, posters, and of course, in stationery. The face pairs well with display faces of a disparate nature, and serves as a ready foil for anything requiring an air of typographic sophistication.

Niccolo Niccoli (1364-1437) was a wealthy bibliophile and an acclaimed scribe, in Florence (Italy). He was one of the most important Italian calligrapher in this early time of rediscovering Roman script. Of rare accomplishment was his adaptation of the so called Italian humanistic minuscule script. We were inspired from his late work to create this present Font. We have added a lot of accented and other characters (U/V, I/J...) who was not existing in the original and replacing "long s" by a small "s" for a modern use. The OTF encoding was used for intelligent alternates, permitting to use different forms of the same lower case or capital in a single word, reproducing easily the charming variety of a real manual scripture.

Bourgeois Rounded is built upon the framework of Bourgeois, our popular geometric type family. As with the sans-serif Bourgeois Rounded letterforms are contemporary in look and feel. In the late medieval period appeared a "semi-cursive" writing, the French "écriture de civilité". Quickly, it is carved and melted down in lead for printing. It is a very elegant running font, with numerous variants, both final than initial characters, many of the accented small characters were present in the model I was inspired by, after “Fournier Le jeune ”, in his catalogue "Modèles des caractères de l'imprimerie et des autres choses nécessaires au dit art nouvellement gravés par Simon-Pierre Fournier le jeune" published in 1742 in Paris. A render sheet, included in the font file, makes all characters easy to identify on keyboard. This font, very attractive and decorative may be used for web-site titles, posters and flyer designs, editing ancient texts, labels, greeting cards... and anything you want! Dubrove is a wedge serif typeface inspired by Moravian (Czech) type designs of the 1930-50s. The character font is expressive: free, daring and graceful, delicious and attractive. Here are more than 1100 glyphs, all 102 European languages, all Ancient Slavic Alphabet (49 characters), Latin and Slavic small capitals and OpenType features with many solutions. Dubrove has several stylistic sets, historical forms, localized forms of several languages, interest contextual ligatures and many other delicacies. Lately I have been experimenting with different foods. At home, we eat a lot of Asian food, but I thought it would be nice to broaden my culinary horizon a bit. So far I have (successfully) added Georgian beef and walnut soup, Tacos (after a suggestion by my friend Stuart), Surinam Roti and various vegetarian dishes to our menu. When I created this font, I had to think of Gumbo - a dish I have never made. Gumbo is a handmade display font that comes in a rotund regular and an obese bold (with Italics). Use it for your book covers, product packaging and sticky notes. Gumbo comes with cute ‘end of word’ ligatures - just type the glyph + space and presto: you have a little swash. As for the dish Gumbo, well, I will make that this weekend!

As a successor of Didots famous font, which marked the beginning of modern typography, the Monceau has inherited the spirit, elegance and sophistication of french style, although in a revamped design, typical for the first years of the 21st century. Liberated from its serifs and with soft and round small letters the Monceau approaches ornamental typography and thus perfectly lends itself to being enlarged: it’s a font that loves to be closely looked at. Its name, lent from the famous parc Monceau in Paris, evokes and reinvents in a modern graphical way all of the Parisian chic at the end of 18th and the beginning of the19th century (the time Didot was born), the French Revolution and Empire, the architecture of this business quarter and notably the arabesques of the monumental gates still present in our times.

At first glance, the lettering style of Technopen JNL seems to emulate the computer-age fonts of the 1980s. In actuality, this font is derived from an alphabet sample found in an instructional booklet for the Esterbrook Drawlet Pens. The Drawlet line was Esterbrook's answer to the iconic Speedball pen points sold through their chief competitor, the Hunt Pen Manufacturing Company. So, what seems to be late 20th Century typography is actually from vintage source material. In fact, the entire contents of the instructional booklet were copyright 1929! A few minor changes were made to the original A-Z alphabet and additional characters were added. The name Technopen is a shortening of the term 'technical pen', which is both a nod to the techno age of the 80s and the technical instruments of the past utilized for drawing and lettering.

I have a lot of options to choose from, and it's hard to decide. For example, if I use "Thin" for the body text, I might make the title slightly larger and use "ExLight," and for the headings, I could use "Regular" or something similar. I could also stick to one font weight, like "Light," and differentiate the text using various sizes. This font is designed for enjoying the process of "indecisiveness," so please feel free to wander and deliberate extensively.

I’m happy to present you the Bohemian initials font family. Regular and Colored styles (Uppercase & Numbers) based on Codex Gigas originated in medieval Bohemia. The manuscript has been dated 1230. The elaborate initials are at the beginning of the main texts and their principal divisions. The painter was aiming to achieve a plastic depiction of the trailing vines of the initials, and he painted with solid colours. He used only four of the primary colours cinnabar red, blue, green and yellow, brightly toned, as well as white accents and contours. The trailing vines of the initial letters are painted in a decorative, advanced Romanesque style, already bordering on naturalism. The plant taken as the starting point is the acanthus, a thistle-like plant which grows wild in the Mediterranean countries. The decoration of the Devil’s Bible is not the work of an amateur. Bebedot originated from doodles and scrabbles in notebooks; irregular forms very well might contain a style for an alphabet. Once used for an intro spread in Wired magazine (#6.04, April 1998): "To keep up you need the right answers. To get ahead you need the right questions". The name was inspired by a women clothing poster at the San Francisco bus stands. The dot is for the com that never came.

Opa-locka JNL is named for a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida and is based on an Art Nouveau-era bit of hand lettering found on vintage sheet music. Legendary aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss (who successfully developed the city of Miami Springs and the city of Hialeah with James Bright) began the development of Opa-locka around 1925 as a planned community with a "1001 Arabian Nights" theme. Plans for this exclusive community included a country club and a small private airfield, but the hurricane of 1926 derailed Curtiss' original vision of the city. Opa-locka gradually took shape as a residential area for middle-class families, but the closing of a long-established Marine base, changing demographics and a reputation for being a hot-spot for crime, drug abuse and corruption tarnished this once-grand community (which boasts the largest collection of Moorish Revival architecture in the Western hemisphere). Old-time Miamians bristle when the city's name (an abbreviation of a Seminole place name, spelled Opa-tisha-wocka-locka) is mis-spelled as "Opa-Locka", "Opa Locka" or "Opalocka". The correct name is hyphenated, and the second part is in lower case.

Rot is clunky, clumsy, and utilitarian. It comes straight from a second rate oracle’s prognostications of a not-so-distant dystopian future. A place where film noir meets twenty first century computer cards; and rainy melancholy nights meet global warming. It speaks of a world that welcomes everyone; provided that they are romantically inclined to living life at the short end of the stick. Metaphorically, Rot is a shot of hard liquor served in a dirty glass. OMG! I never thought I'd finish this font! Actually, the idea came to me in the late 1990-ies, but the sketches lied at the bottom of the "fonts I will complete one day In the future" pile ... also called "fonts I most likely won't complete...EVER" pile! :) Anyway, I started up with letters for both upper and lowercase, no numbers or punctuation. I figured if people ever purchased this font, all they would need were upper- or lowercase letters. But the rest of the glyphs seemed to miss out, so I made the numbers and some punctuation. But I still found the font incomplete...therefore I redid all the punctuation (from "standard" punctuation to "picturish" punctuation) and added two additional sets of letters. Meaning that there is 4 different versions of letters to choose from: 2 different lowercase, and 2 different lowercase. I had a lot of fun drawing this font, and some fun doing the detective work finding out how the MANY lettershapes should look! I hop you too have fun using this font! :)

K-haus 105 is inspired by the work of graphic designer and typographer, Herbert Bayer, during his time at the Bauhaus around 100 years ago — work that kick-started graphic design as we know it, to this day.
