This steam era typeface, created by Gustav Schroeder in 1884, found popular use on soap box labels and tobacco tins during its initial release. Then, later, a successful and stout revival of Gustav's face, named Othello, was carried out by Morris Fuller Benton in 1934, and the typeface's appeal widened to include items such as broadside posters featuring Boris Karloff's Frankenstein. After metal gave way to film type, Gustav's creation experienced a brief fashion moment in the 1960's, but then disappeared entirely, never re-surfacing as a full digital typeface. With the release of Bathysphere, the typeface comes full circle, having been completely redrawn from scratch using Gustav's original specimens. The new extended language support establishes the typeface firmly in the modern era, while Bathysphere's refinement of subtle blunt corners restores a deep-sea grace to this iron giant.

This rough font, was created inspired from a lot of various european documents dated from the end of 1600's. We were in search of a hand to accompany with "The Treasure Island" novel by R.L. Stevenson, and this seems to be the good one. It is a "Pro" font containing Western (including Celtic) and Northern European, Icelandic, Baltic, Eastern, Central European and Turquish diacritics. We have also included a few old English specific abbreviations. The numerous alternates (four sorts of standard lowercases and two sets of capitals) and numerous ligatures allow to made the font looking like a real various hand. Using an OTF software, the features allow to vary each character without anything to do but to select contextual alternates and standard ligatures and/or stylistic alternates options. The "Ru" version is a supplementary choice, offering Russian Cyrillics.

In nautical folklore, the Flying Dutchman is a ship that can never go home and is doomed to sail the seas forever as a ghost ship. The story of the Dutchman appeared in print in the 1820s. With different versions written over the years, some date the legend to the 1640s or the early 1700s. The Flying Dutchman font is a revival of an 1876 font from MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan Co. The Truetype and OpenType formats include a larger extended character set with Central and Eastern European accented letters. Extra characters in this font are left and right pointing hands in place of the less than and greater than keys and a pirate flag is on the bracket keys. New to this style is the distressed version where the letters look like they've been hacked by a cutlass.

GRUND is a new fontographic adaption of a remarkable 1920s epigraphical find in the city of Leipsic. This old well-known European trade fair hotspot struggled with a severe shortage of exhibition space around 1920. The solution was to dig deeper into the matter – literally – and 1924 the world’s first underground trade fair exhibition hall was opened right under the city’s central market square. After several changes of use during the past decades the sophisticated Art Deco entrance structure (architect: Otto Droge) was re-opened in December 2013 as a gateway to a new subway rail track. – The original brass lettering of the UNTERGRUNDMESSHALLE MARKT has been retrieved – and served as the inspiration for this new and unique font. Altivo is a proper workhorse sans serif. Sixteen OpenType fonts in eight weights (with true Italics) range from Thin to Ultra. Meticulous care was taken to ensure high legibility in text sizes on the screen. The typeface is designed to have wide proportions, generous x-height, loose spacing, ink traps, large apertures and low stroke contrast. Altivo’s ink traps are not only a functional design feature, they also look interesting and lend character to the typeface in headlines. True Italics, small caps and multiple sets of figures, as well as a complete set of lowercase superscript were all included in the family to accommodate high typographic standards. In the beginning of the 800s, during the reign of Carolus Magnus (or “Karolus”, as he signed himself), a great reformation of the written characters was conducted under the authority of Alcuin, Paul Diacre and Theodulfe. The new style, named “Caroline” script, was completely set up between 820 to 830. It was a regular script, with few ligatures, very legible, but only with lowercase. The capitals remained the old Romans ones. We have created the font to serve contemporary users, making a difference between U and V, and also between I and J, which had no relevance for ancient Latin scribes. We also added Thorn, Oslash, Lslash, W, and and the usual accented characters that did not exist at the time. Titlings (initial letters, without accents), historical and contextual alternates completes the set (in two separate files for MacOS9).

Hellenic Typewriter is a slab serif for text and display, combining the typewriter aesthetic's balance of elegance and pragmatism with some of the extended western flavour of Hellenic Wide. Rounded strokes, some unorthodox slab details and playful, looping tails all add to Hellenic Typewriter’s warmth and approachability, while its typewriter-inspired proportions and clean forms provide rythym and an honest, confident voice. The lightest weights, laying bare the simple, partly-geometric and optically-monolinear construction, embody an assertive elegance. Ball terminals feature extensively throughout the design, in both lower and uppercase. This miroring of details creates a greater harmony between the cases and ensures that the true character of Hellenic Typewriter is not lost when setting in all-caps. Expressive true italics elaborate upon and emphasise some of the freer, more decorative elements of the roman styles.

From the abyss and the quarantine hell, drawn in absolute lonelyness, and finished during the darkest hours of confinement… "Guau" is born, the type that barks directly at your face! "Guau" is a high-contrast display font with as many weights and versions as there are types of puppies in this fantastic world. It is thought to bring up glances in middle and heavy boxing weights, although you can also take its compressed and italic styles just for a walk. "Guau" is a font with three axes (italic, weight and width) and 20 instances, and it also contains thousands of glyphs and Opentype features that means a "guaorld of posibilities". This name comes from the time when you could only go to the street to take a walk to your pooch. Definitely, "Guau!, your new best friend!".

Pragmatica Slabserif was designed as a complement to the popular type family Pragmatica by Vladimir Yefimov and Isabella Chaeva (1989-2004) by addition of square serifs. Inspired by Helserif (Phil Martin, 1978) which was formed in the same way by addition of square serifs to Helvetica (Eduard Hoffman and Max Miedinger, 1957). First sketches of Pragmatica Slabserif were created by Vladimir Yefimov in 1988 during development of Pragmatica. Olga Umpeleva designed the whole slabserif type family of six weights basing on those sketches. All styles of Pragmatica Slabserif coordinate with corresponding Pragmatica styles on metrics, proportions, weights and design. The new family can be used together with Pragmatica and separately. It’s convenient for technical texts, for magazines of general nature, for business applications as well as for advertising and display matter. Pragmatica Slabserif was released by ParaType in 2011.

Robert Hunter Middleton drew the original design of Stellar for the Ludlow Typograph Company in Chicago. Work began in the late 1920s, when Middleton was asked to create a sans serif type family to compete with European imports of Futura and Kabel. Stellar was Middleton's attempt to raise the ante. Where Futura and Kabel were geometric in design and monotone in weight, Stellar was based on roman character proportions and stroke weighs were stressed. In the late 1990s, Dave Farey took on the task of reviving the Stellar design. While Ludlow cut Stellar in a full range of point sizes, the family was limited to just a roman and bold design. Farey's revival is twice as large a family. It ranges from a very light called Stellar Nova to a very bold called Zeta In between are Lyra and Epsilon.

Phillip Kelly first drew the Croissant typeface in 1978 for Letraset. Back in the 1970s and 80s, Letraset's rubdown lettersheets were a popular means of designing with type. Today, many of these nostalgic classics are available in digital format. Linotype is pleased to re-present Croissant. This experimental typeface is built up out of round, brush-like strokes, creating heavy, and black letters. These forms are best used for display signage and headline text. As most successful German private press, «Bremer Presse» has strongly influenced German book art. It was founded 1911 in Bremen to print and produce books in perfection. The role model of the press’ typeface was the english Doves Press. Willy Wiegand drew three versions of the «Bremer Presse» antiqua font, starting with the regular weight in 16 pt and adding later the regular weights in 11 and 12 pt. The revival of this beautiful font is based on the 12 pt weight. During the design process, the focus was laid on finding the elegance and strength of original prints. ND Alias is a monolinear sans serif coming in 8 weights and 3 widths, so a total of 24 styles. The design is an exploration of abnormal, minimalist, or hyper-reduced glyph shapes, which create a rather interesting degree of ambiguity while retaining legibility at the same time. The Sunshine Group is a series of four closely related fonts that combine a visual rendition of a bright noonday sun with Page No. 508, a wood type designed by William Hamilton Page of Norwich, Connecticut in 1887. Page No. 508 was released in a digital version by HiH and is available from Myfonts.com. Woody Sunshine is the simplest. The name alludes to its wood type roots. The sun shines on the upper case letters only (and the ampersand, which is considered lower case). Double Sunshine has the sun on both upper and lower case. Smiley Sunshine adds a smiley face to the first font. Double Smiley adds it to the second font. Warning: immoderate use of Double Smiley may expose the user to charges of overly aggressive cuteness. Introducing a retro grotesque called "Stengazeta". The name means "wall newspaper" - this is very popular in USSR genre of handmade artwork that is actually a mix of newspaper and poster. During the Soviet era you could find it everywhere - in factories, schools, research labs, and even in army and police. Sometimes it was a kind of official propaganda, but often just a way of expressing of creativity of co-workers. The letterforms are bold and grotesque with strong handmade feeling. It has Extended Eastern Europe Cyrillic and some of Extended Eastern Europe Latin letters. "Stengazeta" created for titles, poster design, web design, branding and packaging works, illustrations, badges and other typography works. John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States, didn't hit his stride until he'd left that lofty office. It was during his many years in Congress that he assured his legacy, not least because of his long, masterful oratory opposing slavery. His speeches, in fact, won him the nickname "Old Man Eloquent." So when I decided to simulate Adams's penmanship in his legendary diary (which he kept for nearly 70 years), it seemed fitting to call the font by that name. I focused on his handwriting from about 1810, when he was Ambassador to Russia, but also consulted pages from later years. Old Man Eloquent has both regular and bold weights. The OpenType version has more than 450 glyphs, including alternate uppercase characters, old-style and lining figures, and numerous ligatures; all formats contain several common (English) words.

The 2nd installment of the Enchanted Land family takes us on another medieval adventure, opting to completely rebuild instead of refining the legacy script. More emphasis was put into the undulating nature of the Uppercase characters and how they keep your eyes flowing. For this reason, straight lines and right angles are rarely used in favor of flamboyant terminals and wispy swashes. Lowercase characters, by contrast, adhere to a consistent model defined by its straightened edges and sharp corners. This script flirts with several old world styles but seeks only to borrow elements rather than completely emulate them. German Blackletter, Old English, Uncial, Victorian, it’s in there! Enchanted Land DS would work well in a book, video game, or medieval signage. This family is equipped with Basic Latin, Extended Latin, ligatures, punctuation, a few alternates, and kerning.

Hollywood Revue JNL gets its design inspiration and name from a vintage movie poster for "The Hollywood Revue of 1929". The letter style shows early Art Deco influences, yet the hand lettering was done in the late 1920s toward the end of the Art Nouveau period. MGM produced this early "talkie" all-star musical with a cast that included Jack Benny, John Gilbert, Conrad Nagel, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Polly Moran and many others. This is the motion picture where Cliff ("Ukelele Ike") Edwards introduced "Singin' in the Rain" (composed by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown). Years later, Freed was a producer at MGM and gathered up many of the songs he and Brown wrote during the 1920s to form the musical core of the 1952 Gene Kelly-Debbie Reynolds-Donald O'Conner musical "Singin' in the Rain".

Brandon Grotesque is a sans serif type family of six weights plus matching italics. It was designed by Hannes von Döhren in 2009/10. Influenced by the geometric-style sans serif faces that were popular during the 1920s and 30s, the fonts are based on geometric forms that have been optically corrected for better legibility. Brandon Grotesque has a functional look with a warm touch. While the thin and the black weights are great performers in display sizes the light, regular and medium weights are well suited to longer texts. The small x-height and the restrained forms lend it a distinctive elegance. Brandon Grotesque is equipped for complex, professional typography. The OpenType fonts have an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European languages. Brandon Grotesque won the TDC2 Award, 2011.

Bayer Sans, is based on the typography of the Austrian-born artist Herbert Bayer. Bayer worked as a teacher and graphic designer at the Bauhaus, a revolutionary German art school, during the 20's. His specialty was commercial art and he had many "radical" views on typography and its interaction with society. Bayer felt that written language should be merely a graphic version of spoken language. Thus, he advocated a single alphabet without majuscules and miniscules. Bayer's designs are simple, geometric letterforms that lend themselves to lowercase form. This font, based on the typography of Bayer and his students at the Bauhaus Werkstatt (studio), was digitally modeled by Noah Rothschild. Bayer Sans features a complete character set including European characters, alternate letters with adjusted widths and designs and ligatures. Included are the "f" characters and a special linked double-o.

Six Hands is a set of handwritten fonts based on various writing tools, such as pencil, felt-tip pen, ball-point pen, and brush. The character set of each of these fonts supports the Cyrillic alphabet, as well as the extended Latin script for all European languages. Most of the styles also contain additional alternatives that have the capability of automatically interchanging in the setting, which significantly variegates and humanizes the text. Six Hands is quite a rare combination of diverse display fonts that work well together. It is made for talented designers who can use it creatively in packaging, advertising, displays, posters, menus, invitations and so on. The design of Six Hands was a result of collaboration between Alexandra Korolkova, Alexander Lubovenko and all those who assist them in this work. This set of fonts was released by Paratype in 2018.

Copperplate was the classic nineteenth century engravers typeface, consisting of capitals and small caps only. Among others (for example Deberny & Peignot) F. W. Goudy's cut for ATF around 1901 is probably the most widely known. Copperplate typefaces are traditionally used for business cards and all that "serious" stuff. My Copperplate Classic is a completely new design, based on some old samples. To make it look more up-to-date and elegant, I gave it some extra swings here and there. The old fonts were all designed with clogging corners or points that can break off in the minds of its designers. Today we do not have those problems any longer, so I could give my Copperplate Classic real sharp pointed serifs. To give you more choice I now added this medium cut in three variations, medium, sans and rounded! Enjoy! Gert Wiescher
