Yes, I am Richard Starkings and you may remember my hand lettering from such comic books as THE KILLING JOKE, TRANSFORMERS and, um, THE KILLING JOKE! Yes, finally Comicraft is making available the font that started it all -- from the pages of MARVELS, SUPERBOY, GENERATION X and, um... MARVELS! The font that Kurt Busiek, writer/creator of ASTRO CITY, really, really likes but we've always refused to make available to him. Always leave your friends wanting more, that's my motto.

“The Film Daily” issue for August 30, 1927 ran an ad for Tiffany Pictures in which all of the main text was hand lettered in a sans serif style displaying the beginnings of the Art Deco movement. With their rounded terminals, the characters were designed using a round nib lettering pen. Redrawn digitally as Silent Cinema JNL, it is now available in both regular and oblique versions.

In 1900 ATF released the design for general use as Century Expanded, one of the most popular and effective of typefaces, to this day the text face of the New York Daily News.

The inspiration for this typeface came from various images of the Blossom Dairy Co. restaurant, originally opened as an ice cream and sandwich shop located on Quarrier Street in Charleston, West Virginia. The restaurant first opened in 1938 as an outgrowth of the Blossom Dairy Co. itself, and existed under various ownerships until it permanently closed on Nov. 11, 2016. Fonts based on handwritten forms enjoyed a revival in popularity in the 1930s. Diskus was designed by Martin Wilke in 1938 and exhibits many traits of modern script and brush typefaces. The informal and energetic Diskus is a script and brush font for daily use and the capitals can be used as initials mixed with other fonts. Diskus is particularly good for titles or texts in middle to larger point sizes.

CA Cula Superfat is a distinctive fatty typeface, mainly intended for display purposes. You will find out that it looks best in extremely large sizes, or in very small ones. Whatever you do, avoid the ordinary and expectable. It’s not only beautifully fat, it’s also useful. A central European character set, loads of ligatures, oldstyle and lining figures make it a versatile companion in the daily struggle for outstanding typography.

Trapped home during the Coronavirus outburst of March 2020 the Zetafonts team found some solace from the world-wide anxiety by designing letters for the #36daysoftype challenge. To fight dark thoughts and spread some good karma we decided to add a free font twist, selecting the best glyphs drawn to develop a collection of ten free typefaces for download. We did our best to make this little gift to the community valuable, though developed in record time: although playful and excessive, these typefaces all stem from our current research in contemporary trends and historical design solutions, bridging calligraphy and design. The typefaces have been published daily starting Monday, March 30. You can download and use the typefaces in any way you desire, as they are totally free for commercial and non-commercial use. We are not asking anything back, but feel free to share the good karma and, if you want, please consider a donation for hospitals.

Surpassing traditional Antiqua, our new collaborative font family Audela emerges after overcoming time, national borders, language differences, cultural gaps, and professional challenges. Starting off as an exercise project of our very first intern Léa Bruneau in 2018, Audela slowly shaped into a full-fledged elegant serif typeface of 14 styles under the watchful eye of Plamen Motev, Fontfabric’s Type Director. Three years later, Audela is internally regarded as a breaker of limits earning its name from the French “au-delà,” meaning “beyond.” This new rising star features sharp serifs, flowing letterforms, advanced OpenType features, Extended Latin and Cyrillic support, to name a few.

Bintang means Star in Bahasa Indonesia. Bintang font is a hand drawn, computer enhanced font. It is all caps, but upper and lower case differ and can be freely interchanged. Based on informal handwriting. The face resembles sophisticated but naive childish hand and brings associations of summer vacation and meadows spread with daisies. It may be useful in designing of invitations, picture-cards, posters, funny headers and certainly in advertising.

Working on a Star Wars project? This font is in Aurebesh, the main written language of the Star Wars universe. In this case I designed a font that looks like it has been scratched into a wall. All the additional letters from the Aurebesh character set are includes, as well as numbers and symbols.

In the 19th century typefaces with star-like serifs developed from the medieval type styles, retaining the sharp corners and peaks of some of the blackletter types but losing the flourishes on the upper-case letters. Asterx is in that tradition of star-footed typefaces, though it is not modeled on any particular one.

Delator font is a display typeface, inverted contrast, and condensed. Inspired by the personal experience of the designer who, with resilience and daily struggle, managed to get ahead. Its name is linked to the song of an Argentine rock artist called "Corazón delator", this means that it is a typeface that does not go unnoticed, it attracts attention for its shapes and its way of being and above all, when it is present, it automatically "gives itself away".

The April 8, 1932 issue of The Film Daily ran an ad for a film entitled "The Sin of Lena Rivers". Hand lettered in a block style of chamfered characters, it is reminiscent of the 1920s, but still carries a touch of Art Deco influences with the thinner and extended horizontal strokes of the E, F and H. This retro sans serif design is now available digitally as Evil Ways JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

These two typefaces contain elaborate star patterns. XSarsAndStripesOne and XStarsAndStripesTwo are mirror images of each other.

We saw a zigzag type like this made in the 1860s. We copied the idea, but added stars to make it patriotic. As with many highly specialized fonts, you won't want to use this every day but certainly, like other "stars and stripes" types, it implies something about the message even before one reads the words.
