  6. Norberto by CastleType, $59.00
Norberto, a CastleType original, is based on a Russian design from the late 19th century that in turn appears to be based on Bodoni. However, Norberto is a much warmer design than most Bodonis, with many soft touches such as very gentle curves from the serif at the top of B, D, P, and R; a jaunty cap on the ‘A’ (and Cyrillic ‘El’, ‘De’, etc); charmingly quaint numerals; hairline accents, and other subtleties that make it a wonderful addition to the Modern typefaces. In addition to several useful OpenType features, Norberto also offers extensive language support, including modern Greek and most languages that use the Cyrillic alphabet, as well as built-in keyboard support for Esperanto and Yoruba. Norberto now has a stencil version which combines the elegance of the original with the informality of a stencil cut. As one enthusiast says, "As a die-cut companion to his compact Norberto, Jason Castle's Norberto Stencil hits us right where we live with its svelte stature and sexy, Bodoni-esque bones." — Typedia

  19. Sleepy Bear by Missy Meyer, $12.00
I've been learning to read Cyrillic and Greek letters lately, mainly because I've been playing the game GeoGuessr. (If you haven't played it, I highly recommend! It plops you down somewhere in the world in Google Street View, and you have to figure out where you are.) Cyrillic shows up in so many more places than Russia! You can see it in Bulgaria, Mongolia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kyrgyzstan, and more. Because of that, I made sure to include a fun double-uppercase version of those alphabet sets in Sleepy Bear. They're styled the same way as the Latin characters: all uppercase height, with some lowercase-styled letters thrown in at that same height for a fun look for all ages. I've also made two weights of Sleepy Bear: a plump and smooth regular weight, and a lighter weight that's built to stack on top of the regular (though you can use it on its own). Just type out a word in Sleepy Bear, copy it, and then change the copy to Sleepy Bear Light. You'll get a great outline look in seconds! All characters are extensively cleaned up, with smooth curves and rounded ends. Sleepy Bear is great for all print projects, and also cuts out of all materials like a dream. It's a cute and quirky monoline font family that's great for all of your family's designs. Each font contains over 850 glyphs, and includes: - Latin and extended Latin characters to support over 100 languages; - Cyrillic and Greek double-uppercase alphabet sets; - 18 fractions; - Punctuation galore; - 38 double-letter ligatures for variety (including international pairs like KK and II); - And a half-dozen alternates for even more variety!

I had so much fun designing this typeface, playing with classic serif letterforms to create an elegant, mid-century modern vibe. Belgato Light is fresh, airy, and delicate – perfect for feminine branding. By contrast, Belgato Black boasts fat curves with thin details, perfectly-suited to bold layouts and retro branding projects. Each Belgato font has 665 glyphs, encompassing: - the Latin alphabet (including hundreds of accented characters) - the Modern Greek alphabet - the Cyrillic alphabet (for Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, and Serbo-Croatian) - discretionary ligatures - stylistic and alternate glyphs - numerals (lining and old style), small figures, and fractions - extensive punctuation, symbols, and diacritical markings Software: No special software is required to use Belgato fonts. You can even use these fonts with Canva! To access Belgato’s variable font features, ligatures, and stylistic alternates, it is best to use software that supports these functions (Adobe programs, Corel Draw, Sketch, etc). Languages: Belgato supports dozens of languages which use the Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic alphabets. Among the most common languages it supports are: English, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Filipino, Finnish, Flemish, French, German, Modern Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Luxembourgish, Maltese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, Swedish, Swiss German, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

  23. Biro Script Plus by Ingo, $50.00
An authentic script from the tip of the ball point pen. This hasn’t been seen yet: A typeface which truly looks as if it were handwritten. Calligraphy is, actually, the art of fine writing. And actually, written scripts as typeface for the computer are 100% nonsense. And yet, an obvious thought: Create a typeface which truly derives from everyday handwriting. And since we, if we write at all, utilize practically only a ball point pen anymore, then a modern cursive writing form must look like just that. As a counterpart to the artistic ”handwritings“ which have long been available as typeface, the thought of digitalizing a truly ”ugly“ handwriting is appealing. After all, time and again there is the need for a text to look ”handwritten“. Biró Script is written freehand with a ball point pen. Finally a truly individual script! Biró Script includes more than 300 authentic ligatures in addition to the customary alphabet. By the way, the most convincing effect is obtained with a font size of about 18 to 22 points, at which the thickness of the stroke is now about the same as that of a real ball point pen. There's a difference between the anglo-american forms of some characters (esp. the numerals 1 and 7, but also capitals I and F) and how it's written in the rest of the world. For those of us who aren’t used to the world-wide usual forms, Biró Script includes a US version with the appropriate characters.
