Sign and Display JNL is a long-overdue companion font to 2009’s Sign and Poster JNL. The original design models were Art Deco influenced die-cut cardboard letters and numbers manufactured by the Duro Decal Company of Chicago. Square in shape with rounded corners, the thick cardboard letters were used for making show-cards and other display signage. Subsequently, Duro used the same style of lettering to manufacture water-applied decals for boat identification and other uses. It was a set of these decals (with a black outline and yellow interior) that inspired the outline typeface Sign and Display JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Veotec is a classic humanist sans that skilfully works for both screen and print due to its steep and precise angles enabling more negative space. Not only does this methodical approach improve legibility and readability at small sizes, it allows the bolder weights to feel harmonised and consistent without the compromise of this legibility. Angles are refined and considered with a balance between sharp and round curves adding a unique feature to this font. This also gives a modern and appealing feel at large sizes. Details include 6 well constructed weights, manually edited kerning, which is more open for on-screen devices, ligatures and alternatives.

Stripes is a caps only font and does not contain additional ligatures, because there is an easy way to create as many of them as you like. To form a ligature, convert your word or word string into vectors. Activate the corner points of the straight lines (not the round ones) of a letter and drag them over the next or the previous letter. This way you can create any ligature of your own. Beware of overkilling, it could decrease the legibility of your text. Besides the normal J, Stripes contains a stylistic alternate which should be used to avoid ugly gaps between critical letter pairs (see pdf document).

Ethos is a contemporary serif fontfamily by Fonts With Love. It comes in 36 fontstyles with true italics and a huge bunch of opentype features like small caps, ligatures, nominators and denomiators, fractions and many more. Its x-height is pretty high, which makes it legible even on small fontsizes. Above that, the lighter weights have a rather low-contrast linestyle, which improves the legibility on display application especially on smaller sizes. On larger fontsizes, the typeface stands out with a distinctive character of geometrically shaped letters with soft rounded corners. Each fontface contains 500+ glyphs, supporting a huge amount of languages, mathematical operators, symbols and punctuations.

Conceived as an exploration of geometrical type designs of the early twentieth century, Canaro was — in its first design stages — heavily rooted in that time period. During its development and the effort to give it a modern appearance, it turned into a contemporary font with a strong historical background, defined by legibility and functionality. In addition, the lack of spurs provide a unique but unobtrusive character and support the contemporary impression. Typographic features like alternative glyphs, ligatures, oldstyle numbers, arrows, fractions and other special characters, round up the family. Canaro is available in nine weights plus matching italics. Ranging from sharp and elegant thinner cuts to sporty and athletic heavy weights.

Although the early 1900s through the 1920s seemed to be the "Golden Age" of ridiculously long novelty song titles, it appears that even the decade of the 1940s had its fair share as well. Song Merchant JNL was modeled from the hand lettered [but exhausting] title of the sheet music for "Princess Poo-Poo-Ly Has Plenty Pa-Pa-Ya (and she Loves to Give it Away)". Despite the obvious double-entendre inferences of the title, the square block letters with rounded corners make for a useful headline font (even if the source material it was drawn from is quite forgettable). Available in regular and oblique versions.

Sequal is a handwritten graffiti tag script. It was drawn and created by Måns Grebäck between 2018 and 2020. Its round and soft letters are youthful and active, and cool while being cute. Sequal is a typeface family of five weights: Thin, Light, Regular, Bold and Black. The different weights ensures usability in any context, while also giving the ability to emphasize phrases or words. The font supports hundreds of languages, including European and Asian Latin scripts. Composed of over 1250 glyphs, it is guaranteed to contain all characters you'll ever need, including all punctuation and numbers. It also contains OpenType features such as alternates and ligatures.

Geogrotesque Sharp is a superfamily of seven widths and 99 styles, that puts together the work of a decade. Some design aspects has been simplified but without losing its soul, we have removed ink traps and rounded corners. This update lead Geogrotesque to another dimension, becoming more usable and less idiosyncratic. A Variable Font version is included with the family, or as a separate style. Punkaholic started out as a loopy, all caps display font with a semi condensed feel. Before completion some of the letters such as A and W were given a more traditional look and were penciled in for alternates. In the end, however, they were added as uppercase characters instead. For this reason most words in lowercase vary in appearance from their uppercase counterparts. This dichotomy between straight lined capitals and rounded ones makes for some interesting contrasts. Punkaholic works best in less formal settings such as café menus, t-shirts, or children’s publications. It comes in 3 styles and contains Latin, extended Latin, punctuation, and kerning.

A couple of weeks ago, I found my ink well, which I thought I had lost. I decided (there and then) to create a bunch of inky brush fonts, which resulted in Dirrrty and Scrawny Cat. And now, needless to say, Garden Bed. It is named after a strophe from one of my favorite Soundgarden songs: Just Like Suicide. Garden Bed is a hand made didone-ish font, with a very irregular baseline, some interesting glyphs and a secret garden filled with diacritics.

Pincoya Black Pro is a font based on lettering found on a poster from the Spanish Civil War, complemented with graphics developed in “La Unidad Popular” (Chilean political coalition) during the seventies. Pincoya has many alternate characters in Opentype format that provide multiple options when composing a text. It is an ideal font for high impact sentences, logotypes, magazine layouts, poster designs, etc. Languages include: Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian and Pan Africa Latin.

No prizes for guessing this font family was inspired by the 1950s - the sounds (Buddy, Eddie, Elvis), the styles (polka dots, petticoats and Dior's New Look), and the kitsch, from furry dice above the dashboard to plaster ducks over the mantlepiece! A particular point of reference is the furnishings and fabrics of the Fifties (with their distinctive kidney shapes and angular curves) as showcased in the Festival of Britain 1951. The wealth of vintage hand-lettering styles found in a 1941 edition of the Speedball® Lettering Pen instruction book has allowed Jeff Levine to re-draw a number of them in digital format for today's designers. As with other fonts in the Eckhardt Series of sign painter-inspired styles, this font is named in honor of Jeff's good friend Albert Eckhardt, Jr. Al was quite the talented sign writer, and ran Allied Signs in Miami, Florida from 1959 until his passing.

Bombarda is a big gun, and surely a font named like that must have specific dimensions in order to make the text sound loud and powerful. Due to extreme thickness of basic strokes and of maximum possible serifs it will look great on the cover of a comic book, colorful splash screens of computer games as well as other applications where the title should have particular weight. The font was designed by Alexander Lubovenko and released by ParaType in 2016.

Bungehuis font was modeled on the lettering found on an Amsterdam art deco building from 1931. This building on the Spuistraat, also called "Het Bungehuis", used to house offices, but is now part of the University of Amsterdam. In 2015 it had its brief moment of fame, when students, demanding more democracy at the University, occupied it. Bungehuis is a heavy art deco font and would look great on posters and in headlines. It comes with a rather democratic range of diacritics.

Darker Marker is just what the name suggests: I found a very big fat marker in a local stationary store, bought it, came home and went to work on this font. Darker Marker is a very clear, very easy to read marker font. It is all caps, but upper and lower case differ and can be interchanged. Darth Vader would have said: “come to the dark side” and I believe you should. Darker Marker comes preloaded with all the diacritics you need.

I made this font using my index finger and Chinese ink. I thought the ink would come off easily, but I can tell you: it doesn’t. I have been walking around with a black stained finger for a week now and I do get strange looks from people every so often… Fingerfood, of course, is hand made. It is a rather playful font - all caps, but lower and upper case differ and like to mingle. Comes with a full diacritics palette.

My kids like to read Donald Duck magazine. They have boxes full of old editions that we bought second hand. Most of the comics are well-used, but there are some in near mint condition. I thought it would be nice to create a font that mimics the lettering found in comics. Mint condition is a very nice, very friendly handmade comic book font that comes with extensive language support (including Vietnamese and Cyrillic), plus two sets of alternate glyphs.

The name “Fiction Crusader” was generated by a random word generator. It may sound odd, but I like the feel of it. Use your imagination: what exactly is a fiction crusader? Each letter has 6 slightly different versions, and they automatically cycle as you type. A great way to make your text look more lively and vibrant! I guess that this is an all-purpose font, because I can’t think of a project that couldn’t use a font like this!

Morgenfrisk is one of those words you cannot really translate: it is Danish for ‘feeling refreshed after a good night’s sleep’. Morgenfrisk font is a handmade, thin school class font - very legible, very neat and very nice too. I found the original letters in a Speedball™ Text Book. There were only so many of them, so I designed the missing ones myself. I adjusted some of the original letters to a more contemporary look. Comes with a frisk amount of diacritics!

CA Normal is a typeface aiming for beauty without ostensible effects, merely relying on clarity and well balanced proportions. True beauty is not to be found in perfect geometry, so slight irregularities and inconsequences are spread throughout the typographic image. That’s perfection through imperfection. CA Normal merges influences from European grotesques and American gothics, breeding an experimental mongrel. The underlying concept stays in the background, giving the design a great self-evidence. Although it is doubtful if there can be such thing as neutrality, CA Normal comes pretty close to what people mean when speaking of a neutral font. Nevertheless it’s not faceless, anonymous or confound able. It’s just that the charm comes from subtle details rather than obvious design features. As good text typefaces must not be too smooth nor too agitated, CA Normal is smuggling little uneven details into the typographic image, that keep the readers eye awake. The well crafted oblique follows the grotesque tradition which knows no individually drawn italics. A rather unexpected addition is the reverse oblique, a style mainly used for maps. Under the classic surface lies a modern well equipped font, featuring small caps, a Central European character set and numerals in all kinds of flavors. Numerous ligatures round up the overall impression. By default CA Normal will set numbers as proportional lining figures. But if you prefer oldstyle figures, or tabular figures, just use the OpenType functions of your layout program. A simplified blackletter designed by Peter Behrens, architect and graphic artist who came into prominence around 1900. Issued by Rudhard's Typefoundry, Offenbach A. M., this face was typical of many in the Jugendstil period. Its squarish look works well in Craftsman period layouts.

Thin, elegant and thoroughly Art Deco is the thick-and-thin (slightly flared) alphabet found on page 31 of Samuel Welo’s 1930 instructional book “Lettering Practical and Foreign”. Redrawn digitally as Evening Dress JNL, it is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Animated types like this one have been around for fifty or more years. They certainly add a sense of liveliness to a headline. This one trades upon the "wrong way weights" of the old French Clarendon. Think of it as Barnum with Bounce.

Uptown JNL was found amidst the pages of a 1944 edition of the vintage lettering design book entitled "Sixty Alphabets". This lovely Art Deco typeface has slight curvature to the straight lines of the letter forms and a wonderful hand-lettered look.
