Our Pardner font finds its inspiration from the title screens of the 1965 film “West and Soda”, an animated Italian film that was a parody on American Westerns. Director Bruno Bozetto claimed in an interview that he was in fact the originator of the Spaghetti Western, not Sergio Leone. This offbeat and animated serif typeface has characters of varying width and weighting incorporated into opentype scripting as well as numerous alternates to give a lot of fun and frolicking play in typesetting. We decided to explore the concept of fitness, but from a more natural perspective. With so many people drinking detox drinks and eating raw food, we were inspired to create a font that mixes the ‘strength’ of sports and the organic nature of natural products. ITC Astro is the typeface that proves you can get your work done while watching cartoons. “It all started as a series of doodles while I was watching The Jetsons,” recalls Sasa Petricic. “The show's impossibly simplistic vision of the twenty-first century cried out for a font that fit into that world -- a world where everyday objects can carry far more fun and personality than they should.” ITC Astro is the first commercial typeface design from Petricic, whose “day job” is working as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Petricic has filed stories from across Canada and around the world for CBC's flagship evening newscast, The National. His reports have also appeared on CNN and BBC Television. Petricic's work as a correspondent and video journalist have taken him to six continents, covering everything from famine and genocide in Africa to the war in Iraq. With such serious matters filling the hours of Petricic's day as a journalist, it's not hard to see why he conceived Astro as a welcome blast of whimsy. “As I began to draw the design,” he says, “I decided that every part of Astro should be a cartoon character unto itself.” Each character has its own baseline shadow (or coaster, or circular antigravity generator, depending on how you look at things). The angular caps dance jauntily, rocking from left to right, while a suite of companion small caps provide backup. LOGX-30 is a geometric, all-caps, display typeface. As a brother of LOGX-10 and LOGX-20 , this is the most narrow version in a series of three related typefaces. LOGX-30 is designed, like other LOGX versions, for a wide range of graphic designs and visual identifications. I think that it works best in works with a technical, geometric style, and rather striving for minimalism. Both the normal and the italic version can be used together to compose graphics, photos, large and small text in an interesting way.

Edda Pro is another art nouveau revival by German type designer Ralph M. Unger. Edda Pro is based on Edda, designed in 1900 by Heinrich Heinz Heune for Schelter & Giesecke, Leipzig, Germany. Unger redesigned the beautiful forms, completed and expanded this outline caps-only typeface for the profonts library. Also, he added a nice collection of very useful frames and ornaments in EPS format supplied with the OTF version of Edda Pro.Edda Pro can be used for anything in advertising, signmaking, posters, restaurants, hairdressing, paint, wallpaper and so on.

Four interchangeable all-caps typefaces, made specifically for designers to layer and play with. Here’s more at the designer’s site. It combines hard and soft, geometry and pattern. Layer and mix styles within a single word, retaining coherent visual tone. Havelock Solid operates as a background layer, Multiline sits nicely atop it, Inline frames Multiline’s center strokes, and Stencil lets details peek through. Rosselina is a handwritten, fully connected script with ligatures and contextual alternates to help with flow and readability. It can be used for invitations, greeting cards, posters, advertising, weddings, books, menus etc. Every lowercase letter has at least two variations. To get the alternate glyph just add "+" before the letter in any OpenType savvy application or manually choose the character from Glyph Palette. When you type uppercase letters they will change to Small Caps. Language support includes Western, Central and Eastern European character sets, as well as Baltic and Turkish languages.

My font takes inspiration from repeating firearms of the mid- to late 18th Century; their sleek and elegant appearance contrasts with their rigidity and simplicity are what I attempted to implement within the font itself.
