Teen Years JNL was inspired by the hand lettered name for the Joyce Records label (circa 1956) which first recorded the New York doo-wop group The Crests (of “16 Candles” fame). The type design is a block sans serif, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

PiS Penny Serenade is an elegant all caps high-contrast sans with some serif-y elements in the caps, inspired by the handwritten titles of the 1941 melodrama movie of the same name. Be sure to use the art deco style alternate glyph set for more 1920s vintageness!

Harpo is a naturally condensed font, better at large sizes. Harpo Wide is a more versatile version of the same font. Part of The Algonquin Collection, Harpo was named for occasional Round Table member, Harpo Marx. Light, narrow and discreet this font brought to mind the silent Marx brother.

Recon, developed from the 112 Hours numbers-only font of the same name, explores modular forms suggested by quartz displays. The constrained rules of construction, using a limited number of repeated elements, lead to many interesting and unexpected letter-shapes. Suggestive of science fiction movies, technology or military labelling.

A font with a strong graphical appeal, based on the logotype lettering for the comic magazine of the same name, designed by Dutch illustrator Joost Swarte. Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Muisca, that in its early edition was named as «Muisca Sans», was developed in mid-1997 and based on the graphic concept of pre-Columbian characteristics figures within some of the very few visual elements recovered from the Muisca culture. This ancient pre-Columbian tribe disappeared since the arrival of the Spanish 500 years ago, in what is now the center of Colombia. In fact, the name of the capital Bogotá goes back to Bacatá as primary or village downtown of what was once the imperial capital of the Muisca tribe. This typographic project was submitted as my work for the degree in Graphic Design, obtained in September of that year (at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia), under the creative concept of vindicating the ancient culture and identity through a functional typeface, into a fact without precedent in the country. Muisca was recently edited, arranged and completed, including multilingual diacritic glyphs to be versatile in several languages. Related and inspired by Latin America, Ethnic, Native, Tribal, Mysthical, Handmade, Aboriginal, Pre-Hispanic, Pre-Columbian, Textured, Fantasy. Ideal to be used in logos, display text & titles, games and other design applications that reminds of the Pre-Hispanic art.

The name of this typeface comes from the surname of James (Jim) Bowie, American pioneer and inventor of the famous Bowie knife. This is exactly what inspired English rockstar David Jones to change his stage name to David Bowie. Bowie is thenew font by Bercz and Latinotype Team. The typeface is a type system that reflects a strong personality, an urban feel and an unprejudiced style. Bowieis well-suited for publishing projects, branding and packaging. This font family is composed of three sections: a group of sharp-shaped uppercase fonts (smallcaps and all caps) in 5 weights, each with matching regular/back slant italics,providing users with 15 different styles for multiple combinations; a set of script catchwords and eclectic sets of dingbats and flags that communicate the blue-sky thinking and feel of the project. Bowie consists of 5 weights, ranging from Thin toBlack, and comes with a 439-character set that supports 206 languages.

Yellow Balloon is a typeface named after my two year old son's favorite book: The Yellow Balloon by Dutch author/illustrator Charlotte Dematons. Every night before he goes to sleep, he wants to read the book and manages to find the yellow balloon on every page. Yellow Balloon is a cartoonesque font with an uneven baseline. It would look great on book covers or posters. Yellow Balloon comes with extensive language support.

Moutarde is French for mustard. At home we don’t eat that much mustard, as it is a condiment that goes well with burgers and hotdogs. We eat Asian food a lot, so our hot sauce of choice usually is sambal. Moutarde is a good name for this fine, handmade font. Moutarde font is a rounded, easy to read, display font that comes with all the condiments - including a set of alternate a’s.

FansiPensle is a set of four decorative scripts. The capitals are fussy and ostentatious and a little weird with strange flourishes. The lower-case letters are neat and simple. Lower-case letters have the shapes of a cursive alphabet and they are connected in the cursive and cursive-bold styles but not in the plain and bold styles.

Patzcuaro is a summer resort by a lake of the same name. It is situated 370 km west of Ciudad de Mexico and a visitor from Europe, on seeing it, will be reminded of the Austrian Rust or the South Bohemian Trebon. The town's colonial architecture is protected as a historical monument, the reddish-brown tint of the footings of the buildings, their white facades and even the type of lettering with red initials is prescribed - and these regulations are also complied with as far as cars are concerned. This colour scheme is splendid in combination with the rich gamut of greys of the stone window jambs, vaults, lintels and pillars. Joking apart, even the local petrol station is 16th-century in appearance. Patzcuaro Regular is a cosy, welcoming type face which is good for use on labels.

And soon they're all laughing and dancing up and down the baseline. Like a family gathering to celebrate a special occasion, there is a palpable sense of joy expressed through the letters and images, not unlike the sharing of good food, memorable stories and lots of laughter. Typewriters are becoming scarce, but fonts designed to look like they came from typewriters aren't. In this case, however, Gripewriter is meant to look as if it were typed on a textured paper and enlarged, emphasizing flaws and lending it a funkier, grungier look than your average typewriter face. This was originally called Hypewriter until it was pointed out that a font already existed with that name. The current name is a better fit, anyway, since Gripewriter looks like it might hold a grudge.

I just finished book 8 of The Expanse (by James S.A. Corey) and the name Takeshi popped up somewhere, so I decided to use it for this font family! Takeshi is a hand made set of fonts: a fat display font, a thinner complementary font and a doodle font. Enjoy!

An unusual blend of block and script letterforms, based on poster lettering for an Italian fashion house of the same name, designed by Wilman Schiroli in 1935, and notable for its very jolly lowercase c. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Calypso was inspired by the dance of the same name, and its flowing lines suggest the rhythms of Caribbean / Latin American music. Anker is a super-wide and heavy typeface. At the same time, it has a very large contrast between vertical and horizontal stems. This gives it a certain defiant and aggressive character. The name Anker means anchor in German. That is something very heavy in weight and at the same time has sharp and thin elements in the design. This is reflected in the Anker. Suitable for super large titles, short words, logos or typographic compositions.

Alfie™ is lively, friendly, inviting and easy on the eyes. What more could you want in a script? How about four flavors of the same design? Alfie Script is a delightful connecting script with a touch of comfortable elegance. Use it for everything from social announcements to headlines and packaging. Alfie Casual is a little more laid-back with letters standing on their own. It works great in short blocks of text copy, subheads and navigational links. Alfie Informal has spirited serifs and its own demeanor, while Alfie Small Caps does a fine job of supporting its other siblings. There’s an immediacy to words and messages set in these lighthearted confections. Jim Ford was practicing drawing with a new brush pen when the inspiration for Alfie came to him. He had filled several pages in a notebook with letters and, at one point, realized that there might be a typeface among them. As it turned out, there were four. The process, however, wasn’t choosing one design and modifying it. The makings of all the designs were on the pages. It was just a matter of culling out the right collection of characters to build the foundations for the four flavors of Alfie. Because they share the same family roots, each design in the Alfie family can be paired and intermixed. Ford admits that there’s a hint of Emil Klumpp’s 1950s Murray Hill typeface (https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream/murray-hill/) in the Alfie family. Just enough to give the design a 50s vibe.
