Auntie Pat is a new script font in my continuing objective of designing scripts that I can really use. Of course, I am looking for readability in booklets. In many ways, Auntie Pat is a very unusual script in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. This is font has all the OpenType features in the set for 2009. I didn't bother with the CE accents (though I can add them upon request). A ‘Brochette’ in French is a skewer. I used to be a tour guide and some years ago, I guided a couple of tours in Mali. Every night at dinner we had the choice of a ‘Brochette de Capitaine’ (grilled Nile perch on a skewer) or a ‘Brochette de Bœuf’ (grilled beef on a skewer). Of course, every night the Brochette came with French fries and ‘petits pois’ (peas). It was really nice, but after 4 months of eating Brochettes, I longed for something different! Brochette is a very nice rounded font. It comes with curls, swirls and swashes.

Bodoni expresses the beginning of the Industrial Revolution; its serifs are flat, think and unbracketed, while the stress is always on the mathematically vertical strokes. Bodoni believed in plenty of white space and therefore descenders are long. The M is rather narrow; in the Q the tail at first descends vertically and the R has a curled tail. The italic, like most continental modern faces, has roman serifs. Monotype Bodoni provides a clear-cut effect due to its simplicity. It reproduces well, particularly in sizes over 12pt. This font is slightly darker than Bauer Bodoni. The contrast makes Monotype Bodoni appear more condensed.

Lectio is a Roman font based on a Venetian Renaissance early typefaces, but with a modern and expressive design. His obvious calligraphic influence favors continuous text reading. The generous internal "eye" gives Lectio an appropriate legibility, its soft and organic modulation avoids fatigue, its robust character is attractive and stimulating in large bodies, especially for use in headlines. Lectio comes in two versions: Lectio and Lectio B. Lectio has seven weight and their corresponding slanted variables (true italics). Lectio B is composed only of Italics in six weight. The ascenders are slightly lower, the descending are more regular and the oblique trace of some letters have a more constant rhythm. Each of these faces has the optimum amount of contrast agains the background and clear and open internal letter shape. The Ancient South Arabian script (Old South Arabian 𐩣𐩯𐩬𐩵 ms3nd; modern Arabic: الْمُسْنَد musnad) branched from the Proto-Sinaitic script in about the 9th century BCE. It was used for writing the Old South Arabian languages Sabaic, Qatabanic, Hadramautic, Minaean, and Hasaitic, and the Ethiopic language Ge'ez in Dʿmt. The earliest inscriptions in the script date to the 9th century BCE in Yemen. There are no letters for vowels, which are marked by matres lectionis. Its mature form was reached around 800 BCE, and its use continued until the 6th century CE, including Ancient North Arabian inscriptions in variants of the alphabet, when it was displaced by the Arabic alphabet In Ethiopia and Eritrea, it evolved later into the Ge'ez script, which, with added symbols throughout the centuries, has been used to write Amharic, Tigrinya and Tigre, as well as other languages (including various Semitic, Cushitic, and Nilo-Saharan languages).

“Kindah” is a Yemeni ancient tribe with evidence of its existence going back to the second century B.C.E. The kings of Kindah exercised an influence over a number of associated tribes more by personal prestige than by coercive settled authority. The Kindites were polytheistic until the 6th century CE, with evidence of rituals dedicated to the gods Athtar and Kahil found in their ancient capital in south-central Arabia. It is not clear whether they converted to Judaism or remained pagan, but there is a strong archaeological evidence that they were among the tribes in Dhu Nuwas' forces during the Jewish king’s attempt to suppress Christianity in Yemen. They converted to Islam in the mid-7th century CE and played a crucial role during the Muslims' conquests of their surroundings. Among the most famous figures from Kindah known as Kindites are Imru' al-Qays (526-565?), al-Ash'ath ibn Qays (599-661), Hujr ibn 'Adi al-Kindi (?-660), al-Miqdad Ibn Aswad al-Kindi (589-653), and Abu Yusuf Yaíqub ibn Ishaq as-Sabbah al-Kindi (805-873) known as the Philosopher of the Arabs. "Kindah" font is a modern Kufic font comes in three weights (i.e., bold, regular, and thin) which is mainly designed to be used as a display Arabic font. The main feature of this typeface is the mixture of curves and rectangular shapes used in the designed Arabic characters. Kindah font was inspired by the design of the Yemeni modern windows of houses in which only top part of the arc is used for building such windows which reflects the originality of the architecture preserved in this part of the world. "Kindah" font is extremely outstanding when used in printed materials with big sizes especially for headline, titles, signs, and names of brands. Some time ago I stumbled upon a little book called 'De Sprookjeshoorn' ('Horn of Fairy Tales') by Anton Eijkens (1920 - 2012). It was published in 1946 and contains several authentic and unique fairy tales - unfortunately unreadable to modern children, as the language used is out of date. What caught my eye was the handwritten font on the cover of the booklet. Closet Skeleton is a fairytale font inspired by the one I found on the cover of De Sprookjeshoorn. It comes with several curly alternates and some end-ligatures as well. I added an 'old fashioned' ampersand and a modern one, so you can choose which one to use.
