Circle Sans is one of the most unique wood type font designs we"™ve found. It was made in Europe and our cut measures just 3 picas. Letters are a basic, rounded gothic with a medium amount of stroke contrast. This font is easy to read and packs a special punch dropped out from the negative space of a circle.

This project started from an idea to create a fun & informal typeface that would be cool for designers and for the general public. So, Just in Type designed a font with several OpenType features to create different letterings for different occasions, always in a cute way, sometimes even fancy. Hjem, in Danish, means ‘at home’ or ‘home’. I made this font ‘hjem’, so I thought the name was quite appropriate! Metropolis Bold was commissioned by Publish magazine for their 1990 redesign. Although other digital versions exist, I think this was the first one and is characterized by extremely pointy serifs. It is well to remember in laying out copy for Metropolis to allow plenty of white space in the layout. Metropolis is based on the 1932 Stempel cut as designed by W. Schwerdtner.

The intention with Capo was to make a typeface with a pinched, angled connection between curves and verticals. We have explored this incised, cut motif previously on typefaces, most notably Noah, Sabre and Harbour. These have focussed more specifically on stone-cut forms. For Capo we wanted to mix the expressive quality of its ‘pinch’ idea with an overall aesthetic that could be applied to text rather than headline. So Capo has something of the function and warm, organic quality of Grotesque style typefaces. In Capo’s Bold and Black weights the sharpness of the letter shapes is more dramatic and emphasised, making for great effect for large-sized text. Why Capo? A capo is a device used on the neck of a stringed (typically fretted) instrument to shorten the playable length of the strings by pinching or clamping them in place, hence raising the pitch.

HWT Artz is the newest wood type to be cut at Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum. It was designed by venerable type designer Erik Spiekermann exclusively for his own print studio (P98a in Berlin), specifically to be cut into large size wood type. The digital version is being offered to the general public with proceeds of sales to benefit the museum's ongoing operations. HWT Artz evokes bold early 20th century European poster lettering. The design itself is intended to minimize hand-finishing and thus production time with rounded corners rather than sharp interior corners that would normally have to be hand-finished. In keeping with the tradition of naming new Hamilton designs after key figures from the living history of Hamilton (and following Spiekermann's tradition of four letter font names), Artz is named after Dave Artz- Hamilton Manufacturing retiree and master type trimmer.

HUNKSTER is heypentype journey to simplified a stencil fonts. Simplified means it must easy and fast to cut when creating stencil art. Hence, this typeface inspired a lot from stencil arts and fonts right from the beginning of its creations. When a lot of stencil fonts out there used to create political message and self-expression, Hunkster take it beyond that. This typefaces can be applied to anything, from motorsports, branding, logo or logotype, industrial design, products packaging, software, games, website headlines,etc. Whatever it will be used, the spirit of the stencil and street art remains. Include in this typeface family is plenty of ligatures because the nature of stencil and our design aims, easy-to-cut but still beautiful. Most importantly its thrown away an image of stencil fonts bound on military themes. This ligatures will be developed in the future release along with updates on Hunkster variable fonts.

This is a grotesque typeface which was derived from an older more simple version designed back in 2000. Bulletin Sans Pro is distinguished by its selective deep cuts which give this typeface a robust and contemporary look. These cuts become more apparent at larger sizes while they create a more subtle effect at smaller sizes. For intense titles try the black version. When space and legibility for long texts are critical, use the lighter versions. The family consists of 10 fonts—from black to light—including true italics. It supports 20 special OpenType features like small caps, fractions, ordinals, etc. and offers multilingual support for all European languages including Greek and Cyrillic. Finally, every font in this family has been completed with 270 copyright-free symbols, some of which have been proposed by several international organizations for packaging, public areas, environment, transportation, computers, fabric care and urban lifestyle.

I became interested in designing Bodoni Classic because of a lazy graphic designer at Jacques Damase publishing house. He had to change a single letter on a bookcover about J. B. BODONI. The French call him Jean Baptiste instead of Giambattista! And that unknown graphic designer just took any old “J” from some newly cut Bodoni. All the new Bodoni cuts have square serifs, whereas the originals had rounded serifs and slightly concave feet. The single letter “J” with the squared off serif was for me like a road sign to start redesigning the entire Bodoni family. That’s exactly what I started in 1993 and a dozen years later I am finished. Okay, I am still adding new Bodoni Classics, but those are my personal additions. Gryffensee is designed to be the Futura of blackletter, combining the time-honored gravity and relentlessness of the Gothic script with the clean, contemporary freshness of the geometric sans. Built from a tightly controlled inventory of lines, arcs, sharp cuts, and OpenType features, Gryffensee was born and raised in the digital age, yet retains the powerful charisma and human warmth of its mediaeval blackletter ancestors. As a result, it excels in a wide range of display settings, logotypes, and short text. Unlike most conventional blackletters, it even handles all-caps usage with grace, and includes an extensive Cyrillic character set (in the Pro version). Apart from a generous range of automatic ligatures and contextual alternates, Gryffensee offers stylistic alternates that allow users to customize its appearance to their tastes. For easy use in applications without OpenType support, we provide two additional Latin fonts (Gryffensee Zwei and Drei) in which these options replace the default cuts. My intention to devise a contemporary geometric blackletter was inspired by four hand-painted letters, |ABCD|, in Sasha Prood�s online portfolio. I later found out that he had, in turn, taken those letters from an existing font, Bastard, by Jonathan Barnbrook. Luckily, by that time my project had taken on a life of its own. Gryffensee is an original design that bears only the most superficial resemblance to Bastard. Gryffensee is a mediaeval spelling of the lake Greifensee near which I grew up. It is pronounced [?gri?f?n?se?], or "GRIEF-un-say" in English approximation. This font is dedicated to Simone.

Siren Script takes its cue from BB&S's Stationers Semiscript (metal, 1899) and its countless imitations/inspirations from throughout the 20th century, particularly a variety of uncredited film faces from the 1960s. What makes this kind of script stand out in the genre is its mixing of flourished majuscules with mostly subdued, traditional minuscules. The result is a balance between formal and informal lettering, as if the letterer is applying his or her learned art without going into full-throttle calligraphy. The message is clearly and gracefully delivered, and the artistic endeavor is fully appreciated without causing coronaries. Patrima is a contemporary typeface with roots in the past. Specifically in the late nineteen hundreds where decorative type applications were en vogue and dimensional aspects and shadings where heavily used. Patrima takes simplified cues from these designs to make the typeface contemporary and versatile. Its base is a squarish Sans which expands through diagonal hatching to a three dimensional body. The hatching is wide enough for screen applications down to 24pt while remaining detailed for decorative purposes in larger sizes. Patrima’s different styles can be layered for chromatic results or used – complementary – alongside. As a decorative typeface it lends itself to display applications and eclectic logo designs, it brings a vintage touch to any branding project and elevates contemporary editorial layouts. Patrima comes with a set of catchwords which enrich its typographic texture even further. They are easily accessible through OpenType’s Discretionary Ligatures feature.

This indescribably delicious confection fueled my inspiration (there's nothing like a constant sugar-high to keep you going!) and the result is this cute little font. In 1927 Albert Auspurg cut Trocadero for the Trennert foundry in Hamburg. Aegypti 7 is a digital revival of Font No.7 or Egyptian Narrow - a Soviet display face cast for hand composition. I settled on the 12pt version as a basis for my digital version, as larger sizes added too much contrast to an otherwise quite orderly slab serif. The Soviet Font No.7 itself was based on an older Semi-Egyptian narrow cut before the revolution.
