Meet the new font family! This font came to my mind while I was sitting in line at the dentist. There are often different magazines at the front desk to read and pass the time while waiting. One of those magazines turned out to be about fashion. When I opened it on a random page, I saw beautiful pictures. But you know what the first thing that catches my eye? The font! The font in which the headline or quote is written. After you read it, you look at everything else. And I wondered what my font would be in this case. I present to you my version of a font for fashion lettering. Good luck and love to you, friends!

A 1916 book entitled “Lettering” by Thomas Woods Stevens features a number of hand lettered alphabets; some plain, others unique. One of the more novel examples was designed by Harry Lawrence Gage and featured letters and numbers with a crude, wavy style described in the book as “adapted to wood block and linoleum cutting”. To keep the design as close to the original as possible, the image from the book page was auto-traced, with each character given just enough of a clean-up as to retain its own quirkiness while smoothing out any jagged lines and fixing some curves. From there, other necessary characters were created for the digital font, and the end result is Tenement JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Trico Script is an attempt to create a script using a cut-out technique. Every basic glyph is made of three forms which gives the script a unique personality and a very distinctive appearance. In order to maintain an even script texture and to keep its character numerous advanced typographic features were created: contextual lowercase alternates, finial lowercase forms, two sets of uppercases, standard and discretionary ligatures etc. Trico Script can either be used as a regular script or as a typeface in three layers. Although the regular version is surprisingly legible in small sizes it’s distinctive character is suitable for the projects where a powerful wordmark is needed. This typically includes cases such as packaging, editorial design, digital use, social media and branding.

Latex was initially a single multi-script all-cap font commissioned in 2012 by a company we can't name, to market a billion-dollar superhero movie we also can't name. A year later the commission grew to include a shaded variant and a set of DIY-like fonts, with different layering possibilities for dimensional manipulation. Each of the five Latex fonts come with a character set of over 600 glyphs, supporting the vast majority of Latin languages, as well as Cyrillic and Greek alphabets. Lots of stylistic alternates are also included, including some for Cyrillic and Greek. Superheroes are cool, though their costumes need more pockets, for credibility's sake. Maybe some superheroines should find something more practical than stilettos. Or maybe not. But definitely more pockets.

Steelplate Gothic Pro is a sans serif font family with traditional and drop shadow weights. It shares letterform similarities to conventional Copperplate Gothic families, but has no spur serif endings. Most of the original designs came from the Western Type Foundry when BB&S acquired it in 1918; all were cut by Robert Wiebking. It was recast in 1954 by American Type Founders (ATF). Steve Jackaman (ITF) designed and produced a digital version of the original single weight in 1997. In 2017, Jackaman completely redrew and expanded the family, adding entirely new condensed variants and true small caps. Heer Halewijn (The Song of Lord Halewijn) is a 13th century Dutch folk tale which survives in folk ballad. The story tells of a man called Halewijn, who lives in the woods and who lures pretty women with his songs (whom he then kills). One day a princess visits Halewijn, but when he wants to kill her, she requests he remove his robe, so as not to stain it with her blood. He obliges and when he is undressing, the princess seizes his sword and chops off his head. Halewyn is a handmade font, which was loosely based on my Languedoc font and Garamond. Use it for product packaging, books and posters. Comes in 4 weights (with italics) and a ballad full of diacritics.

In 1805, December second, the Napoleonic French army won the famous battle of Austerlitz, against Autrichian and Russian armies. Napoleon was a great general, but his hand-writing was not legible at all, so he employed a few secretaries who wrote the official mail. This font was created, inspired from letters written by one of these professional secretaries and scribes in the months before the battle. We propose it as a typical example of the French Hand from this period. The font contains numerous ligatures and alternative characters so as to look as close as possible to real handwriting. The standard full set is complete with accented or specific characters for West (Including Celtic) and Central European, Baltic, Romanian, Hungarian and Turkish languages.

A script font set based on the writings and sketches of Post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin. This naturalistic writing font was based on Gauguin's notebooks from his travels to Tahiti and the South Seas. This set presents two styles of script fonts (Regular & Brush) and a set of decorative extras featuring Gauguin woodcuts, sketches and imagery from his paintings. »Supra« – designed by Gert Wiescher in 2012/13 – is a new sans typeface family of eight weights with matching italics. Supra is influenced by current and past sans typefaces, but has a completely new look. The pleasant flow and warm touch combined with great legibility makes Supra unique. The light and normal weights and the dominant x-height with its high ascenders make for easy reading of long copy. The heavy and x-light weights are great for elegant headlines. Supra is an OpenType family for professional typography with an extended character set of over 700 glyphs. It supports more than 40 Central- and Eastern-European as well as many Western languages. Ligatures, different figures, fractions, currency symbols and smallcaps can be found in all cuts.

Myhota-Bold and Myhota-Light were designed in 1990 and the other seven weights were added in 2021 as were the italic and backslanted styles. There is rarely a use for backslanted type, but when it is needed, Myhota provides an option. Myhota-Hatched was an attempt to see if a readable text font could be hatched out of Myhota by lowering the x-height and widening the letters. The result is a face with rather squarish letters. The regular and bold were original styles with the medium and italic styles added in 2021.

In spite of its name, this font family embodies the ultimate classic modern advertising typeface, rather than concern itself with revivalism or Didone authenticity. Naturally the spirit of the original Didot faces still exists in this family, but over twelve years of work on it have made it more fitting to the luxurious expression of our day and age, rather than nineteenth century Europe. Upscale and stylish, Didot Display is an essential tool for any designer involved in magazines, books, tasteful music, or overall luxury packaging that requires clean and large classic typography with an unmistakable modern spin. Apothicaire is a new font designed by Ale Paul and the Sudtipos team that is inspired in, but not limited to, an antique style casted by a German type foundry during the late XIX century. With the addition of a contemporary design approach, Apothicaire comes in three widths —from condensed to expanded— and five weights —from light to extra bold—, offering a wide range of combinations to explore. As a bonus the font family is also available in a single variable format. An elegant small caps set, a variety of ball terminals and delicate swashes, as well as the possibility to choose from many alternates are also included in the OpenType features. Preta, portuguese for a very pure kind of black, has its name very related to its concept: I wanted to make the fattest/darkest script ever. People who follow my work may notice its forms are very related to works of my past (1) but this time the challenge was to be very cautious with the white spaces between letters. Not only I followed some rules and ductus of the copperplate style of calligraphy but also I took a lot of inspiration in posters of the early Art Nouveau (specially in Alfred Roller of the Vienna Secession) where letters forms looked like black squares if not looked from a close distance. With Preta, I wanted to achieve that same idea of “darkness” and thanks to the always welcomed question -what if?- the font grew a lot. The result is a very fat font, that looks delicious. Due to possible customer needs, I designed Preta Small, so it can be used in smaller sizes. Preta Ao Sol (which literally means under the sun!) is a style with those lovely tiny details to give the sensation of bright. Preta Ao Sol Solo was made to be used as a layered font with Preta. Finally, Preta Capitals serves as a company for Preta. Hope you enjoy the font as much as I did when designing it: The fact that it’s full of alternates, swashes, ligatures and swirls makes it really pleasurable at the moment of using it. Cotton Club remembers the fonts of the thirties of the last century and the Bodoni, but it does not present graces: it is a sans serif. It has 360 glyphs and is composed of two regular and italic styles. Cotton Club is characterized by a high contrast between thick and thin strokes. The emphasized signs give the font an essential, sharp and elegant look. The Italic style of the Cotton Club refers to handwriting and this is noticeable in the ligatures obtained with kerning. The name of the font, “Cotton Club,” refers to the famous Jazz Club in New York, in Harlem, active in the twenties and thirties, during and after Prohibition. At that time the Bodoni, in its many derivations, was widely used not only in lead composition, but also in neon signs, plaques, posters, as well as in many other applications. Redesigning a new font that brings back to those years wants to be, therefore, a tribute and a reinterpretation of the graphics of that period as well as, it is understood, to the glorious Bodoni.
