Norwich Aldine Reverse is a font of "streamer type" (reversed out type used for banners or streamers) originally designed around 1872. Norwich Aldine is slightly lighter and more open than Aldine. It features medium stroke contrast, heavy serifs, and large rounded bracketing (where the stems meet the serifs). Our version is based on wood type of unknown origin. We created dozens of special ligatures to reduce problematic kerning encountered with a monospaced reversed type.

Pixter straddles the lines between the extreme forms of grid based pixel fonts, and more conventional grotesque fonts. Its array of styles create a palette of textures to work with multiple scenarios, from large format display to oversized passages of copy. Inspiration for Pixter initially grew from old computer bitmap fonts, but branched out into Swiss and Dutch graphic design, such as the graphic work of Josef Müller-Brockmann and typography of Wim Crouwel.

Call me some kind of weird, but I find designing fonts about the most fun you can have out of bed. Legible-scmedgible, sometimes you just have follow the font muse regardless of where she takes you. She threw me a circle, a triangle, a rounded stroke and a rounded-cornered square; “Make glyphs,” she sang. Okay! Is it legible? Yes. Is it readable? Kinda. For the right project, though, that’s enough!

Adso was born out of a research that studied the possibility of reintroducing Gothic writing in our contemporary world. Pirouette is based on a logo that Japanese designer Ryuichi Tateno created for a packaging design project in 1999 (a shampoo container!). Tateno's logo experimented with complex, overlapped swash letterforms. He continued to develop these outside of the initial packaging project, until they took on a life of their own. Eventually, Tateno designed a full typeface out of the logo, Pirouette, which was the first place display face in Linotype's 2003 International Type Design Contest. The Pirouette typeface contains six different fonts. The basic font is Pirouette Regular. This is an engraver's italic lowercase paired with elaborate swash capitals. The swash capitals have two visual elements in their forms: thick strokes and thin strokes. Pirouette Text includes the same lowercase as Pirouette Regular, but the uppercase letters are much shorter and simpler. This "text" font can be used to set longer amounts of copy. Pirouette Alternate contains different lowercase glyphs and additional ligatures, which can be used as substitutes for the lowercase forms in the Pirouette Regular and Pirouette Text fonts. Pirouette Ornaments contains swashes and other knick-knacks that can either be added onto the end of a letter, or used as separate decorative elements or swooshes (accolades) on a page. Pirouette Separate 1 and Pirouette Separate 2 are two fonts that can be layered over top of one another in software applications that support layering (e.g., most Adobe and Macromedia applications, as well as QuarkXPress). Pirouette Separate 1 contains the thick stroke elements from Pirouette Regular's uppercase letters, as well as the same lowercase glyphs that can be found in Pirouette Regular and Pirouette Text. Pirouette Separate 2 contains only the thin stroke elements from Pirouette Regular's uppercase letters. By layering Pirouette Separate 1 and Pirouette Separate 2 over one another, you can give the uppercase letter's thick and thin stroke elements different colors and create unique, more calligraphic designs. The Pirouette family, Tanteno's first commercial typeface, was greatly influenced by the calligraphic and typographic work of the master German designer, Prof. Hermann Zapf, especially his Zapfino typeface.

Los Lana Pro is a handmade display typeface. Unlike other font families, this type has not a modular structure, that is, each character has been individually designed. The coherence of structure elements across different characters is given by irregular strokes. This curveless typeface is perceived as being curved because of its straight lines, which form different-size angles. Los Lana Pro is a rustic typeface that captures the stereotypical “Andean hippie” handmade aesthetics. Irregular shapes and broken lines give it a distinct personality. Los Lana Pro looks better in larger sizes. Includes many ligatures, two groups of alternate characters, and titling caps characters. FangsALot is a bizarre typeface family that was designed to alternate two character sets. These sets are alternated automatically in applications that support the OpenType feature Contextual Alternatives (calt). The template used to design characters is a distorted triangle that resembles a curved tooth or a fang. This shape can be flipped horizontally, vertically, and both horizontally and vertically to give four orientations. Two of these orientations are used in the regular style and two in what is called the italic style. I thought the fang motif did not come through clearly in the regular and italic styles. Rather the impression they give is more like graffiti lettering. To emphasize the fang motif I added two more members to the family by filling fang outlines with unadorned sans-serif characters. Then to allow more color in lettering, I added two more styles with letters on black. I then had six styles based on triangles skewed left and right. Why not fill the family out with three more styles based on an isosceles triangle? The end result is a family of nine. All members of the family are monospaced and are hard to read. The three graffiti-like styles have some alternative letters that can be accessed with the OpenType feature Stylistic Sets. Also, for each style it is possible to use only one set of characters by adding a space after each letter and then adjusting the character spacing. The graffiti-like styles can be useful in situations where the hard-to-read property is not important but where a menacing and vicious touch is needed, such as topics of sharks, teeth, biting, and vampires.

Bayside Tavern is a weathered version of our Tavern Alt font family. With its straight sides Bayside Tavern fits better in tight spaces and reads better at smaller point sizes than the regular Bay Tavern version. With three weights, open faced and outline versions to choose from you're sure to find the right style for your new project, restaurant menu, logo, t-shirt design or Pirate costume party. While our original Tavern Alt font has been increased to include five weights additional weights for Bay Tavern will have to wait for now, adding the notched cut in's were all done by hand which causes a lot of cramping so a long break is needed before creating the extra weights. The Fill fonts in the Bayside Tavern family are meant to be layered behind the Bayside Open fonts, if you're using Bayside Open select Bayside Fill, if you're using Bayside Open L select Bayside Fill L, if you're using Bayside Open S select Bayside Fill S and so on.

Roster is a strong brush script family of two weights, caps and a set of ornaments. Roster is great for any kind display use from advertising to packaging and from online to branding. Roster is clear and legible even in smaller sizes and works for longer texts too, but is at it’s best when used for shorter sentences or even just for one or two word display or logo use. Roster is equipped with plenty of Ligatures and Contextual alternates that are automatically activated as long as you keep Standard Ligatures feature on. These features help to maintain the flow and add on some variation when writing with Roster. If you need more than that there is at least three Alternates for each basic character: click on Swash, Stylistic or Titling Alternates in any OpentType savvy program or check out for even more alternates from the Glyph Palette. Since uppercase letters in Roster are mainly designed as initials I made Roster Caps for an all caps version of the capital letters. Roster Caps can be used on it’s own or to support Roster Script. Roster Ornaments is a set of swashes and brush strokes designed to support the font.

OPEN SERIF - answering the question “what font pairs well with Open Sans?”. Designed by Steve Matteson for extraordinary legibility and comfortable reading on screen and in print. Open Interpretation: Not quite Veronese – not quite Egyptian. A dash of panache in an otherwise sturdy serif typeface. Open Serif is an elegant text and display typeface family. Open Interiors: Visually open and legible at text sizes just like its cousin Open Sans. Open Serif reads smoothly but has an energetic texture. The chancery style italic contrasts nicely to the roman in a full bodied nod to Italian Renaissance forms. Open Type: Open Serif is full of OpenType features including Small Capitals for the Roman, Italic Swash Capitals and Old Style Figures for both. Open Translation: Supporting all the languages available in Open Sans, Open Serif completes the translation capabilities of international companies. Extended text is more pleasant to read in a serif typeface so go global with a unified typeface family! Open Face: Open Serif Titling is an elegant companion to round out the family. These ‘open-face' capital letters are ideal for initial letters, mastheads, titles and decoration.

The Vondelpark is the famous Amsterdam city park, 47 hectares stretching out from Leidseplein to the Amstelveenseweg. It was founded in 1864 when a group of well-to-do Amsterdam citizens got together and bought land at the (then) edge of the city centre in order to create a park ‘for riding and strolling’. Designed by architect J.D. Zocher, it opened officially in 1865. The park received its name two years later when a statue of Dutch writer Joost van den Vondel was placed in the park. In the 1960s and 1970s the Vondelpark became a symbol and epicenter of the hippie flower power era. The park was declared a state monument in 1996. Donald DBXL was intrigued by the handmade iron nameplate lettering on the park’s entrance gates, and decided to design VLNL Vondelpark in its glory. The somewhat clumsy iron letters were not revived as is but optimized to turn it into a useful typeface. The all-caps serif with a deliberate constructed feel, contains a Positional Open Type feature that places half circles on the vertical stems, at the beginning and end of a word, to enliven the rhythm.

Highrise is a sans serif typeface inspired by tall industrial structures. Works great as both bodycopy and logotype, as the lowercase is clear and concise, but the statuesque caps letters can grab full attention. Available in Regular, Light and Bold.

Cantoria was designed by Ron Carpenter in 1986. It is a serif font with characteristics of stone cut letters. Distinguished by its open forms and large capitals and available in 10 weights, Cantoria offers a wide range of possible applications.

This font was adapted from an old lettering book, circa 1900. The book got away from us many years ago, but we had made stats of all the potentially useful fonts. Original had no lowercase or numerals, so we designed them.

This is my roughly handprinted typewrite-ish font. It has all the cool and classic moves of the traditional typewriter look, but with a more rough attitude due to the contextual alternates (which offer 6 different versions of each letter!)

Novelty Script is a bold dynamic script, sharply delineated, yet fluid. Most of the lower case letters and many of the upper case letters have joins. The typeface was designed by Nicholas J. Werner and Gustave F. Schroeder and patented in March 1893. The original release was by the Central Type Foundry of St. Louis, Missouri. Although a part of ATF from 1892, the Central Type Foundry continued to operate under its own name until 1895. Novelty Script uses our new encoding, as noted in the All_customer_readme.txt. The Euro symbol has been moved to position 128 and the Zcaron/zcaron have been added at positions 142/158 respectively. Otherwise, Novelty Script has our usual idiosyncratic glyph selection, with the German ch/ck instead of braces, Western European accented letters, lower case “o” and “u” with Hungarian umlaut and our usual Hand-in-Hand symbol. But that is not all. With the takeover of the Central Type Foundry by ATF, a group of special characters appeared. All are included in this font, except the “&Co” and the "'s", for a total of nine in all. The “Ch” and “nd” ligatures are especially interesting because of the impact they have on the color and overall appearance of the page. Download the PDF Type Specimen for locations. This is a fun font to use. Its strength is print, where it gives a page a refreshing look. The joins sometimes have difficulty on the screen, in spite of extensive hinting. Playing around with small changes on the point size can pay dividends. Not for the faint-of-heart. Are you up to the challenge?

This elegant typeface came out of a quick, back-of-the-napkin, sketch I did for a different typeface. After toiling on that typeface I looked back at the sketch and realized that I had lost some of the elegance and playful character of my original sketch. So, it was back to the drawing board and Lilette was born. Lilette is fun but also serious. Playful but elegant. Personal yet also industrial. That’s the power of a slab serif. Chocolatte font is a yummy, creamy script font, made entirely with chocolate.. No, sorry, that’s not true. It was made with a pen, but I thought I’d create a nice urban myth. Chocolatte is a pretty useful font: you can stick it on your X-mas cards, write a little poem with it and surprise the love of your life with an enormous amount of chocolate, decorate your cake with it (preferably a chocolate cake) or use it for your… well, whatever. Just remember that this delicious font cannot be eaten, but it does come with copious amounts of diacritics for all you chocoholics out there!

The marker has been sitting in your pen drawer for years. You can't bring yourself to throw it out, because it's the best marker in the world; but it has become worn and frayed, and you can't bring yourself to use it, either. But today you have just the project for the best bad marker in the world, and you take it from the drawer, remove the cap, and notice with glee that time has accumulated a perfect supply of ink in the frayed tip. You bring it down on the pristine white paper in front of you, and magic begins to trace itself on the page...

Floridium grew out of an affection for the old wood types of the 1800s. Painters Roman* was the initial inspiration. It was the source for the �banana� and �snake head� serifs. But the design�released by Adobe as Juniper�was too quirky to be useful. I tried to make it more sophisticated and modern while keeping the original personality of the 19th century types. The name resulted from a trip to Miami while the initial drawings were being made. Not the best way to name a typeface, but while we were in Miami Beach there was this tall blonde in a bright yellow bikini sitting on this bright yellow Porsche and...

The name of this robust typeface is adopted quite literally from the slice taken out of certain characters. The same sliced angle is also applied to many of the terminals, creating a clean-cut styling throughout the family. Tilted versions emphasise the descriptive name further, with an implied cutting stance. Wider versions go even further still, taking on a more thrusting, squat dynamic compared to the condensed styles. The standard Sliced family is complemented by Sliced Open, a lighter, more open set which extends the versatility and design flexibility of the typeface and comprises a total of 14 font styles, all with extended European character sets.
