My Dizzy Edge font is really not that dizzy! Actually it's quite steady and legible - super good for packaging, greeting cards and perhaps even commercials for toys, candy, t-shirts, movieposters...yep, that list is long! What's more interesting is that the font as got 6 different versions of each letter - at first glance, the letters don't vary that much, but a closer look reveals the sometimes grungy outline of a pen! Litera was designed in 1983 by Michael Neugebauer, who used the same strict constructed design found in his typeface Circulus. Presidio is a stylized version of the hand-lettered calligraphy typical of the Mission era of early California. This lettering was often unique to an individual hand, but the characters shared a common style, and had their roots in the Middle Ages when monks and scholars copied whole books one letter at a time. "Presidio" replicates this style with subtle variations in each character, giving the font its authentic charm.

Suchow was developed from a hand lettered storybook title by Willy Pogany. It's designed to give the feel of the Far East, with character shapes reminiscent of oriental brush lettering. Chunkie is a simple serif experiment going for minimal width and maximum height. I made it into my display version of OpenType Pro, but mainly it was a vehicle for me to try out some more extreme serif ideas and glyph shapes. The solutions for the lowercase a and e are unique, for example. The double g ligature is a fun solution. I like the solution for the @, but I’m not sure how it will be received. That being said, it turned into a useful dark display face with a small x-height.

Giambattista Bodoni of Parma designed and cut his typefaces circa 1790. The Bodoni types were the first of the Modern type designs in which hairlines contrast sharply with bolder stems, and serifs are unbracketed. The Bauer Bodoni font family derives from a cutting for metal type in 1926, retaining many of the original features. As with all versions of this typeface, the contrast between thick and thin strokes of Bauer Bodoni should be taken into consideration as the thin strokes can appear to fade out under certain printing processes.

The name suggests it: the Chiq is based on a well-known system font from Apple's classic Mac OS operating system. By revamping and expanding good old “Chicago“, I want to make that 90s tech charm available for the future. The model consisted of just a single style and inspired me to create “Chiq Bold,” which later became the starting point for the entire font family. The shapes of the Chiq are constructed according to a very simple principle. The contrast of stems and hairlines becomes more pronounced towards the bolder cuts. A few basic shapes form the framework for all characters. The shapes are very regular and sometimes form somewhat unusual figures, which has a negative effect on readability and makes the font rather unsuitable for long passages of text, but results in a very even typeface. This is particularly true for the extra-wide “UltraExpanded,” which is so wide that you can no longer recognize word images but literally have to spell them out. In this way, words are turned into letter bands with a great decorative effect. With variants from “Light” to “Black”, from “Normal” to “Ultra Expanded” and the italics, Chiq reaches beyond its archetype. This opens up a wide range of uses. It is even clearer, even more sober, and to a certain extent speaks an even more modern formal language. Chiq is also a variable font!

The tale of Pumpkinseed began with a bit of hand-printing I noticed on the dinner menu at a local restaurant. I took a menu home for future reference. Several months later, some similar hand-lettering on another dinner menu caught my eye. I became a sort of connoisseur of hand-done menu lettering. After tweaking and adjusting a few of these menu-inspired (uppercase) characters, I placed them -- along with some other designs -- in an online Type in Progress survey. They won. So I finished the caps, drew out the lower case from scratch, created three weights and oblique styles. The result: Pumpkinseed, a full-featured casual hand-lettering face. Comes in Light, Medium, and Heavy.

The English typographer Robert Harling created Tea Chest in 1939 with the Stephenson Blake foundry. Today, this classic design is available in digital format from Linotype GmbH. Tea Chest is a bold stencil face. The font's narrow letters are all caps, and they sport small, slab serifs. Harling's design was most likely reminiscent of the old industrial lettering painted onto boxes and wooden crates that used to be shipped all over the world on the high seas. These letters had to be simple to reproduce, easy to read, and not take up too much space! Try out Tea Chest for large signage displays, on exotic product packaging, or in magazine or newsletter headlines.

A whimsical font with robust curlicues. Designed for display lines on show programs, posters, print ads etc. Many—but not all—of the letters are based on rounded Lombardic medieval forms.

RundigPencil has a semi-informal but very neat and rigidly upright handwritten look. It comes in three weights, each with italics. The calligraphic typeface Rundigsburg is based on similar letter shapes.

An entertaining typography, dense but at the same time very gestural. "Ding" is a sans font that contains different alternatives of letters, a Cyrillic alphabet and Dingbat, special for children's titles.

Rubbish JNL from Jeff Levine is simply letters scribbled from an old stencil as if made by a child... But the look takes on a form of "stencil grunge" as well!
