A rounded version of Albiona, a contemporary slab-serif which revisits aspects of Robert Besley’s classic Clarendon. Originally named after the Clarendon Press in Oxford, the type family was subsequently extended by Stephenson Blake in the 1950s. Albiona adds the inwardly-curved stroke terminals of the same foundry’s Grotesque series, and includes italics and old-style and tabular numerals. The original Clarendon’s ball serifs and calligraphic eccentricities have been rationalised for functional contemporary uses. The family consists of five weights plus italics and a stencil, and its clean readable style is perfect for both extended text as well as headline setting.

Karol was designed in 2011 as a project in the MA in Advanced Typography from EINA/UAB, in Barcelona. It was born as text typeface inspired by the work of East European type designers. Two years later, Karol is ready for public release, in a collection of eight styles (four weights and matching italics) with high readability, strength and character. A few days before its publication, we received the news that Karol had been awarded the Certificate of Typographic Excellence (Judges’ Choice) of the Type Directors Club. Handelson is a collection of 6 handmade typefaces with authentic and organic feel. It contains three scripts, one non-connected script and two all caps geometric sans serifs (Block letters). Manufacturer JNL is a reinterpretation of the classic type face Venus Extra Bold Extended, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. According to Wikipedia: “Venus or Venus-Grotesk is a sans-serif typeface family released by the Bauer Type Foundry of Frankfurt am Main, Germany from1907 onwards. Released in a large range of styles, including condensed and extended weights, it was very popular in the early-to-mid twentieth century. It was exported to other countries, notably the United States, where it was distributed by Bauer Alphabets Inc, the U.S. branch of the firm.”

Ingleby II is a typeface with firm roots in the classic stroke of the pen. The digital design of Ingleby II is legible and distinct in small sizes as well as expressive when used for larger display design. It contains small caps, an innovative range of subtle ligatures, dingbats and adjusted variations of numerals. The glyphs have many detailed designs for better legibility and precise kerning. Tioga is a highly legible typeface designed specifically to display clearly on low-resolution displays. This is a perfect font for historical or fantasy titles. It is influenced by ancient Nordic runes. the strokes flare slightly, to a concave terminal for a finely carved appearance. Kubrick is an experiment in extremes. The Light font is very tall and slender, the Black font is very massive, and Kubrick's slender counters push some of its glyphs to the edge of recognition. The thin counters and negative spaces also give text set in Kubrick a definite visual sparkle, especially in all-uppercase settings. Because of its extreme letterforms, Kubrick is recommended only for large display use. The default letterspacing is set fairly wide to keep text legible. Kubrick was a double-experiment. One part of it was to see how heavy and massive a typeface I could make while still keeping it legible. The other part was to develop a Multiple Master font. Multiple Master fonts were a format developed by Adobe that allowed the user to change things like the weight and width of a typeface. Monollith started as just such a Multiple Master typeface, but when Adobe discontinued the Multiple Master format, I stopped work on the typeface. Later I decided to continue work on it, but as five separate font weights: Light, Medium, Bold, ExtraBold and Black. Very rectilinear letterforms with extremely narrow counters and negative spaces. The five fonts go from very thin and condensed to very heavy and extended. Use in large display settings where unornamented high visual impact is desired.

Thicker is a type-family designed for Zetafonts by Francesco Canovaro with Andrea Tartarelli. A geometric sans typeface on steroids, it was first designed in the muscular Extrablack weight with the aesthetics of high-power dynamic typefaces used in sports communication, and then developed in the lighter weights where the shapes show some vintage-inspired proportions and the slightly squared look that nods to Novarese famous Eurostile, eponymous with retro-futurism. With these diverse influences the typeface allows for both impressive display use and effective logo design as well as more fine-tuned editorial use in body text - with a natural inclination for effective and powerful advertising. The sources of inspiration for the Atyp typeface are spread out widely both stylistically and chronologically. The basic proportions of the uppercase refer to the elementary geometric constructions of the Bauhaus. The design of Beau Sans was inspired by Bernhard Gothic which is considered one of the first contemporary American sans serifs and was designed by Lucian Bernhard in the late 1920s. Panos Vassiliou came across this font while attempting to reduce the design elements of a text typeface, by introducing Bauhaus-like minimal forms to the characters. The first version was completed back in 2002 and introduced one year later in Parachute’s 3rd catalog, under the name PF Traffic. Some time later it was decided to make a few improvements but the project was so carried away that the new typeface which emerged needed urgently a new name. Beau Sans Pro is a modern sans-serif family of 16 fonts which includes true-italics. Just like all other Parachute fonts, it covers a broad range of languages by incorporating 3 major scripts i.e. Latin, Greek and Cyrillic in one font. Alizé is a three-weight typeface inspired by the chancery italic of the 16th century. It is a high-contrast face, created with syncopations in axes and proportions and subtle irregularities that form a lively and delicate weave, suitable for setting a single word, a special expression, or a short block of prose. The family does not contain a roman, and instead promotes the italic as a primary style, a common printing convention in the 16th and 17th centuries. The italic lowercase predates inclined capitals by about twenty years, and as a nod to this typographic evolution, Alizé’s capitals, small capitals, and figures are very slightly inclined to match the energy of the lowercase. The low x-height and long ascenders and descenders, features associated with finesse and luxury, are reminiscent of the Venetian-style italic, but are further emphasised. Unlike the Venetian italic, however, Alizé has a sharp slope, giving a prominent sweep across the page (alizé is the name of trade wind). Each font of Alizé has a character set count of exceeding 700, and contains an abundance of ligatures, dynamic fractions, ornaments, and pan-European language support. They have also been manually hinted for the highest-quality display on both print and screen.

Saral, meaning simple in Hindi, is a monolinear design supporting most Devanagari based languages. Derived from the older Linotype typeface Rohini, it has been greatly expanded into three weights and a wide character set. Saral Light, Regular, and Bold are made to coordinate with the respective weights of Helvetica. OBO Classic is the second installment of the OBO series, a type collection based on a square. Every character is mapped on a 1x1 ratio which allows for horizontal and vertical settings alike. Or mixed, like crosswords. OBO Classic is a display interpretation of a traditional Old-style Serif. The “distortion” which maps each character to a square creates unusual proportions to what we are used to from classic serif typefaces. The result is a monospaced font. While each individual letter feels conventional on its own, when brought together in words the result feels contemporary. Thanks to the square base vertical and horizontal – and mixed – settings are possible and easy to apply. There are a few exceptions for certain punctuation and special characters that are half the width for better spacing; and the word space’s width can easily be adjusted through OpenType stylistic sets. Talking about spacing, for strictly horizontal typesetting there is the option to turn on kerning for a number of characters to create a cleaner texture across words and phrases. OBO Classic is best set in large sizes and is most comfortable in editorial and display settings. A series of icons complete the character set. Distorted fonts are great but are mostly not very practical - 360 is an attempt to create a simple distorted font that can be used far beyond a few logos or headlines. Each 360 character averages roughly half the number of sharp angles of a regular sans serif. This gives it an unusually fresh and timeless appeal and creates a dynamic presence across body text that is very legible and compact without looking overly condensed. 360 was chosen as a name because it can be used as an everyday font, all year round, and because 360 has so many unusual angles that don't conform to normal font conventions. 360 also happens to be a cool number: 360 makes a highly composite number. 360 is also a superior highly composite number and a colossally abundant number. A circle is divided into 360 degrees for the purpose of angular measurement. 360° is also called round angle. 360 is a convenient standard since, 360 being highly composite, it allows a circle to be divided into equal segments with each segment measured in integer degrees rather than fractional degrees. 360 is the sum of a twin prime (179 + 181).
