In 1938, Frederic W. Goudy designed California Oldstyle, his most distinguished type, for the University of California Press. In 1958, Lanston Monotype issued it as Californian. Carol Twombly digitized the roman 30 years later for the University of California; David Berlow revised it for Font Bureau with italic and small caps; Jane Patterson designed the bold. In 1999, assisted by Richard Lipton and Jill Pichotta, Berlow designed the black and the text and display series; FB 1994–99

Fifty Fifty is an editorial serif font (regular and italic) with smooth curves and more than 100 ligatures. It’s gorgeous in all caps, but the lowercase letters can really hold their own. Fifty Fifty is perfect for headlines, editorial design, monograms, branding, logos, poster design, and more. Fifty Fifty includes approximately 700 glyphs and a whopping 115 standard and discretionary ligatures. Patterned after cheap neon signage, this face has class, all of it low. Uppercase only, the lowercase positions are filled with an assortment of cheesy neon graphics, intended to be used at twice the point size of the caps. Named after a 70s TV show about a hotel with a defective neon sign. Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

High contrast, sharp endings and geometrical shapes – these are the main features of Artigua. The relation of vertical and horizontal lines reduces with weight – this makes regular weight appropriate for longer texts and black ideal weight for headings. Horndon is a decorative revival of late art nouveau style typefaces. The robust, high waist forms of these letters lend a unique, early 20th Century feeling of optimism to text designed with them. The letterforms themselves have adapted a three dimensional appearance: they each sport an individual drop shadow. Horndon is an all caps typeface, which was originally designed in 1984 by Martin Wait for Letraset. A similar art nouveau typeface, Galadriel, is also available from Linotype."

The object of Grover was to join two distinctive typeface designs: the basic European gothic of the late nineteenth century and the ‘rounded’ style found in 1960s America. The result is a clear, friendly face with subtle yet unforgettable features. Named after Grover Washington, Jr., the jazz saxophone player, Grover is geometrically constructed and yet very human in appearance. Sans and slab serif variations, true italic weights, as well as small caps afford Grover versatility and unique display characteristics.

Brak is the dutch word for ‘brackish’, the mix of fresh and salten sea water found in river deltas and estuaries. Brak is also VetteLetters’ straightforward display font with straight lines and rounded ends, and comes in two weights. It does really well in sea food dishes like fish, lobster, mussels and shrimps. Level is a spurless sans serif family that takes a more calligraphic approach to the popular square sans. The subtle swelling and shrinking in the strokes of the curves and terminals contrast with the slight squared corners for a sans family that straddles the line between machine-made and human-crafted. Generous spacing and simple, narrow construction make for airy text that still conserves real estate on the page. Three weights include italics and small-caps + old-style numbers.

This clean looking (all caps) font has characters made of gaps, which form the stencil divisions, spaced evenly along the strokes. The letterforms have a well-proportioned constructional appearance. The characters look like they have been built from interlocking bricks, the stencil gaps give them both rhythm and texture. The sans serif typeface also has a sense of movement because of the way the stencil gaps follow the horizontal, vertical or curved direction of the stroke.

Elodie is an Art Nouveau inspired all caps font with some extra quirky characters. It was hand drawn with a brush pen. Elodie is designed for titles, short quotes, product names etc. Use lower-case letters for regular text, and then add a some special quirks to your writing by using the characters in the upper-case section. Red Thinker is a sans serif typeface that includes Small Caps, is of square proportion and fuses soft curves in the outer vertices with straight lines inside the characters, a semi-stencil design that gives it a technological aspect and future fiction. Red Thinker is the heir by right of the geometrical fonts of the early twentieth century inspired by the Bauhaus school and is specially designed for use in any size for both screen and printing.

Southside Fizz is a cocktail (made with gin, lime, mint and soda). Southside Fizz font was based on a single word in a 1930’s advertisement and my Palembang font. I did not have that many glyphs to work with, so I made most of them up. Southside Fizz became a very elegant all caps Art Deco font, quite useful for wedding invitations, books and posters. It comes with a roaring amount of diacritics as well.

Citadina font family has been designed for Graviton Font Foundry by Pablo Balcells in 2016. It is a sans serif typeface with a geometrical, mechanic, neutral appearence and a slightly condensed design which makes it particularly effective for space economizing. It has been conceived to be most suitable for short and middle length text blocks, as well as on all sized headlines. Citadina consists of 12 styles. Each containing small caps and glyph coverage for several languages.

Haggard Nova is the new edition of Haggard fonts (designed in 2011). The new typeface is an upgraded version of an old wedge serif font, with careful refinements to glyph shapes, and the extension of glyph amounts which enabled support of more Latin languages. Haggard Nova is released in eight styles with small caps, and true italics, and contains OpenType features. This typeface can be used for editorials and print designs, as well as text and headlines.

Named after and inspired by an area in central Stockholm, this typeface also draws on design characteristics from faces such as Bodoni, Didot, Centennial and Walbaum as well as Mrs Eaves. In the German city of Bad Neuenahr you can visit a spa called Thermal Badehaus. This beautiful art deco building has an even more beautiful art deco lettering covering its facade. I had to work with only a couple of glyphs ('Thermal Badehaus' to be exact) and tried to capture their beauty in the remaining glyphs. The result is a font called Badehaus (Bath House in German). It is a bold, all caps typeface, with some unique glyphs.

Lazar takes its inspiration from the designs of early Russian designers like El Lissitzky. Designed initially as a custom font for a trainers collecting website it was expanded into a full family including a stencil, rounded and distressed styles. Lazar has a fresh and vibrant feel and is very flexible with its alternates lowercase characters, small caps and discretionary ligatures. It works well on posters, flyers and magazine. Mix all four styles to achieve unique typographic designs.

This font was inspired by one of Antoine Augereau's three roman typefaces: the Gros Romain (±16 Pts) size, used in 1533 to print Le miroir de l'âme..., a religious poetic compilation by Marguerite de Navarre, sister of the French king François the first. It seems possible that Augereau may have also engraved italic styles. This alphabet, with its complete small caps collection, is covering all West, East and Central European languages (including Baltic and Celtic) and Turkish.

Pescadero Pro is named for the valley in California's rugged central coast. Early Spanish settlers called the area Pescadero (fishing place) as they observed it was a favorite fishing spot for the local natives. Designed by Steve Matteson, Pescadero is delicate and detailed for attractive documents but robust enough for serious reports and titles. The design is based heavily on calligraphic inscriptional lettering. Pescadero Pro's OpenType features include proportional figures, tabular figures, old style figures and initial swash caps.

Smurrie means ‘sludge’ in Dutch. It is not an exact translation, but as good as I could find. The name refers to the rounded, blob-like shape of the glyphs. I think this font would look very good on posters, book covers and T-shirts. Smurrie is an all caps font, but upper and lower case differ and can be used together. Smurrie oozes with charm, fun and happiness and comes with a whole bunch of diacritics.

Dinghy is a shore thing. Like three fonts in one, Dinghy sports a friendly, bold lower-case, a salty, strong upper-case, and in all-caps with discretionary ligatures turned on, Dinghy is tightly interlocking. Turn some ligatures on, others off, to craft the look you want - whatever floats your boat. Dinghybats contains 26 original Amy Dietrich seaside illustrations from curious ocean animals to dune grasses to, well, dinghies.... So enjoy making waves with Dinghy family!

Batchelder Ruff is a "battered" version of the typeface used for titling in the catalogs and advertising of the Batchelder Tile Company in Pasadena, California in the 1920s. The original source characters were smoother, but they were also handlettered, so that every character was different. This digitized version contains uniform characters, but its "rough" quality preserves the hand-drawn look. It is designed primarily as a headline font, and thus is best used in All-Caps in larger sizes.

Aliens and Cows is an ultra condensed sans serif display typeface designed by Francesco Canovaro. Inspired by the title cards of 1980's science fiction movies, it features thin letterforms with a ultra wide spacing - perfect for minimal logo design and editorial display use. It features sci-fi themed alternates as well a set of lined small caps and word ligatures, and covers over forty languages using the Latin alphabet as well as Greek and Cyrillic.

Brooklyner font is based on the typeface used for The Brooklynite, a magazine which saw its heyday in the 1920's. The typeface before you is an all caps affair, making it a perfect choice for headlines, posters and ads. Since I had to work with just a handful of glyphs (11 to be precise), it took me a while to design the rest. Brooklyner font is loose, cartoonesque and very legible - and it comes with extensive language support.
