Anatolian typeface was designed with inspiration from the traditional Anatolian kilim motifs and symbols that characterize Turkish culture. Motifs and design elements that has been used for centuries on carpets now found place in a typeface as serifs. It was exciting to see how these old design elements would turn into a modern font that would be applicable for modern designs.

The hand lettering for the movie posters and collateral items for the 1962 film "Mondo Cane" inspired Doggone It JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. "Mondo Cane" loosely translates into "A Dog's World", and the subject of the travelogue documentary consisted mainly of unusual cultural practices around the world that many would find perverse, depraved or shocking.

Cordel Interior family draws inspiration from covers of 'cordel literature’, - small booklets of popular story-poems that played an essential role on the folk-popular cultural life of Brazil. Printed in coarse paper, usually with an woodcut illustration and lettering in the front, these booklets were sold on the streets, in marketplaces and town squares, hung in a cord - therefore the name ‘cordel’.

Evening Wear JNL, drawn from the elegant monoline lettering used as titling on the sheet music for "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", conjures up images of 1930s New York at its apex. Fine restaurants, elegant night clubs and couples decked out in their best evening apparel were of a time long past when "doing the town" meant really dressing up for the occasion.

Over the years I have bought many books and music CDs in persuit of my passion for African and Latin (and especially Afro-Latin) cultures. I've noticed that a great number of these books and CDs feature either of two popular display fonts that are, in my opinion, very much overused. As an alternative, I designed Tambor. The Tambor family includes seven styles.

This font is based on a lot of the downtempo culture in Paris. Smoky bars, jazz clubs, that sort of thing. How a font can be influenced by intangibles is a question that I can't quite answer, but I can say that when I created it, it strongly reminded me of a couple of times spent in Paris back in the mid-90s.

Based around the Australian boomerang, Greg Bastin’s design originally appeared on private Christmas cards and individual projects. It was formalized into a font in 2002 by David Philpott (JY Circles) and brings a quirky antipodean style to the JY&A Fonts range. I have always been fascinated by the ‘Full English Breakfast’. A Full English usually consists of toast, baked beans, sausages, fried eggs, fried tomatoes, fried mushrooms and sometimes blackpudding (a kind of sausage made from pig’s blood). When I lived in England, my friends were always quite happy to stow away a big full breakfast, but I, on the other hand, could not really set myself to eating one. Full English is a hand made stencil font. If you own a pub and you serve breakfast, you could use it for your signs, but I guess this font looks good on anything that needs a bit of attention. For attention, it will get!
