Based on William Page’s Skeleton Antique wood type (circa 1865), Local Printer JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions. Primarily used for text passages, the type design also works well in headlines and sub-headlines needing less emphasis and a touch of subtlety.

Slabserif Grotesk JNL was modeled from an example of a wood type design called Antique Light Face, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. The numerals (although an odd fit to the overall design) make this vintage font quite unusual and charming.

SchwarzKopf is an 18th Century European "Schwabacher" blackletter which features a distressed edge for creating authentic "antique" documents. Old features the long "s" and other archaic forms. Both Old and New variations feature many additional ligatures such as tz, sch, ss, ff and ck.

Here's an offering from the Blackfriars Type Foundry of London that's perfect for commanding headlines. The letterforms have been carefully kerned for a tight fit to increase the visual color of this nostalgic behemoth. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

This timeless classic is patterned after the typeface Camelot, designed by Morris Fuller Benton for American Type Founders in 1926. Its elegant lines and pleasing color make it suitable for both headline and text use. Movie Night JNL was modeled from one of a number of ceramic home movie titling kits on the market that were popular during the 1950s and 1960s. The camera buff would set up the letters against a colored background and photograph clever titles to describe their 8mm home movies of vacations, sightseeing or their darling children (or grandchildren).

ITC Symbol font was designed by Aldo Novarese, a simple, straightforward design of understated elegance. It has just the hint of a serif to aid legibility. Book and medium weights have a light, even color and are perfectly complemented by the bold and black weights. The italics are clear and simple, a comfortable companion to the roman.

Hans Bohn’s Orplid, a shadowed sans serif font strongly influenced by the then prevailing Bauhaus style, and released by Klingspor in 1929, was revived and vastly extended for multilingual use. In addition, a filling style was made to easily accomplish colorful headlines, ads and posters. Both styles come with alternatives for A, M, N and W.

With Zeitgeist, designer Michael Johnson explored the limitations of early digital technology: the letters are built up in the style of low resolution bitmaps. The design was completely carried out on-screen. In additional to the standard lettershapes, the Zeitgeist family comes with a range of engaging and colorful alternative letters and swash characters for enhanced attention.

It is great for projects that have a playful or cute theme, whether for labels, signage, packages, stickers, etc. Along with being legible due to its bold letters, this typeface can make a lovely addition to boho designs that incorporate natural elements, patterns, texture and many colors.

Helmut Matheis originally designed Slogan for the Ludwig and Mayer type foundry in Frankfurt, Germany. Slogan is an informal script of medium weight, with some variation in color. Its caps are flowing and the lowercase letters are close fitting. A lighter, more upright companion was designed by Helmut Matheis as well; its design is named Charme.

The agressive moves, the lateral spurs and the heavy leaf endings of Trochera resemble the silvan plants behavior giving it a very expressive and festive personality. Its features make Trochera very useful for flamboyant and colorful purposes, but it is also attractive in black and white, the saturation of the ornaments will give an appealing texture to headings.

Karlisbad is a monospaced font in which lines expand and contract to form letters. The No-Lines styles can be used alone but it was their use in layers that inspired their creation. They can be used to give the letters a different color than the lines or to create an outline or hollow-letter effect.

In one of our yearly type hunts, we came across the ancestor of this font, much wider and more decorative, with fine outside shading. Condition was poor so we did the obvious, cutting out the excess decoration and condensing the face optically. It reeks of dancing girls and drunken sailors and other colorful attributes of Old San Francisco.

"I first used a hand lettered version of this look on the Carmenet label. I've had this alphabet designed in my head for some time. It's perfect for upscale work. Like wine, this font is well rooted in the past, but meant to be appreciated and used in the here and now. Poole Standard is a stylish headline face, yet works well as a text face because of its readability at smaller point sizes. (Other styles and weights are coming soon!) If you're looking for understated elegance, Poole Standard does the job.

Inspired by the classic German Antiqua style, Gilhaus is a totally original modern serif rooted in iconic history and built for modern projects including branding, web and digital apps, large format printing, and more. While subtle serifs and soft edges bring in an element of warmth and approachability, Gilhaus is balanced out by the bold angular strokes and high contrast letterforms typically found in classic Antiqua typography.

These initials set I collected from Early 15th century manuscript called Claudii Ptolemei Cosmographia, created by the famous Greek scholar Claudius Ptolemaeus in the middle of the 2nd century. The origins of this style called White Vine with interlaced patterns and vine should be found in Ottonian Renaissance manuscripts. Hand drawn serif typeface designed for one of our books. You can use just the regular style or set the fill style over the stroke style to get a more colorful version. It has upper and lowercase characters with up to three alternate glyphs. Build in OpenType Contextual Alternates feature will automatically set alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character (even in web font but only in HTML5 browsers). The script doesn’t throw random glyphs (so it won't break the layered, two colored version). For example in the word “HIPPOPOTAMUS” you will automatically get three different “P” glyphs and two “O” glyphs. It really works great but of course you can always fine tune it by hand.
