Songs of the early 1900s were anything but the status quo in topic or style. Excessively long titles, novelty tunes and "foreign themes" permeated the piles of sheet music in the local music shops. 1916's "Oh How She Could Yacki Hacki Wicki Wacki Woo (That's Love in Honolu)" covered a number of these quirks within one publication. This Hawaiian-tinged song evoked the mysterious ways of the South Seas islands, despite the abridging of Honolulu to "Honolu". Nonetheless, the hand lettered title of this particular piece of sheet music featured an Art Nouveau-influenced bold block letter with rounded corners. It's now available digitally as Smooth Sailing JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Tangential is a distinctive modern sans in 3 weights which was born out of a simple idea: Beginning the project with a perfect circle to form the letter ‘o’, then squaring off one corner, ending up with a letterform I hadn't seen before for that character; this for me was enough motivation to attempt a full alphabet incorporating the angled styling wherever possible. The Tangential style I envisaged for the family is complemented by the prominent use of negative space throughout, most apparent on the drop shaped ‘o’ which is a key feature of the typeface and a letterform I'm particularly pleased with. The core Tangential design is also accompanied by two further variations, Rounded & SemiSerif.

created in 2023, Tyneside is corporate and not too eccentric, but still has a strong character that makes it a the perfect starting point for the new Tyneside text font family. Clarity is very important when displaying a lot of information on the screen. The ranking table is full of names and times and while the display typeface should stand out, the text pieces should be eye-catching and very legitimate. We sharpened the corners, made some shapes easier to read and more modular, clean and sporty overall. We are very satisfied that Tyneside managed to capture the “spirit of sporting enthusiasm” in the personality of the typeface. The design of Sanity typeface is modernized by abandoning any characteristics associated with hand writing, such as curved lines or elaborate corner details. The design is based on a rigid geometric grid and radiates confidence with its daring contrasts and provocative style. In large amounts of text the font “Sanity” can be hard to read due to a «dazzle» effect caused by alternating thick and thin strokes, particularly as the thin strokes are hardly visible at small point si es. Due to this quality, the “Sanity” font-family is best suitable for titles or large print advertisements. There are five key stylistic principles taken as a main framework for the creation of the “Sanity”: symmetry, contrast, geometry, artificiality and monospacing.

Progeny is a single-stroke freehand informal script that began life as a logo for a fast food company. That logo was rejected but when I added a suite of swash caps and a few extra ligatures and my trademark underlines it all started to come together as a font. Then I used it successfully for another logo and I proceeded to complete the weight variations that emerged during the first logo design, rounding the lighter weights to give a more friendly, softer look. That treatment didn't suit the bold weight but sharp corners did not detract from the robust, legible headliner that emerged. All weights work in all-lowercase, all-capitals, lowers with swash or regular initial caps and surprisingly – in all-caps with swash initials.
