Falstaff first appeared with Monotype in 1931, an alphabet in the style of a wide, bold antiqua that was especially popular in the first third of the 19th century. Such typefaces distinguished themselves through their consistent basis in the transitional antiqua style. They are characterized by their extremely fine unflexed serifs with no curve connecting them to the thick strokes. The numerals with their generous curves and ball-like stroke endings and beginnings are particularly decorative. The vertical strokes are dominant and give lines of this typeface a column-like and therefore static look. Falstaff is today often used for book titling, especially for mystery novels. Transat is a geometric sans serif typeface, with caps inspired by Art Deco signage — found inside the “Gare Maritime” (literally “sea station”) ocean liner terminals in both Le Havre and Cherbourg, France, in the early 1930s. The name “Transat” is the common shortening of “Compagnie Générale Transatlantique,” the company that operated majestic ocean liners like the SS Normandie out of Le Havre from 1862–1974. Italian Old Style™ was designed by Frederic W. Goudy for the Lanston Monotype Company in the USA. Goudy was asked by Monotype to copy Cloister Oldstyle, a successful font that belonged to a competing foundry (it was designed by Morris Fuller Benton, see Cloister Open Face). Goudy refused on grounds of ethics, and instead talked Monotype into producing a new face. This he based freely on fifteenth century Venetian types, which were the same historical models used by Benton for Cloister and later by Bruce Rogers for Centaur. Goudy's result was Italian Old Style, released by Monotype in 1924, and considered by many to be one of Goudy's best fonts for book typography."

The font is largely undesigned, but is bound together by a thick connected band which forms the word-blocks. At the same time, parts of Urbanregent are very designed, glyphs have been re-designed to reflect changes in the way we speak and write. The exclamation mark is louder and more manic, because people tend to write two or three exclamation marks after each other anyway. The full stop is more stopping and the hyphen kicks you on to the next word. Kenn Munk's fonts are generally hard to use - Urbanregent is no exception, but a tip would be to start each word with a capital letter. Because Every Word Is Important.

Alternate Gothic was designed by Morris Fuller Benton for American Typefounders Company in 1903. All three weights of Alternate Gothic are bold and narrow. In fact, this face is essentially a condensed version of Benton’s other well-known sans serif types, Franklin Gothic and News Gothic. In the early twentieth century, the modern concept of type “families” had not yet been formed — and though Benton designed these sans serifs to harmonize with each other, the foundry gave them different names. Robust, dark, and coolly competent, Alternate Gothic is a good choice when strong typographic statements must fit into tight spaces. As a modern usage, it is currently the font of YouTube’s homepage logo.

A font where "each word that's set approaches becoming its own logo" is how some have described this unique typeface. Originally inspired by an enamel sign he picked up at a Paris flea market, Michael Doret says that the seven letters contained in the sign were enough to suggest to him that here were letterforms put together in a way that he had never seen in a contemporary digital font. A bit of happenstance and accident are always full of possibility — Richard Lipton’s Dunhill Script is based on observations of the work of his left-handed calligraphy students and then from a small detail generated by his own freehand sketching. Like his other script typefaces, Dunhill was born from the desire to achieve a certain visual drama. Many details show the pen at work, like the terminal shapes and the caps and ascenders. Dunhill also has a range of alternate stylistic glyphs and contextual features that can transform it into a connected script. It’s a great choice for editorial display or advertising and branding settings on its own or paired with a Roman sans or serif.

Journal type family is a low-contrast text face of the Ionic-Legibility group. It was designed at the Polygraphmash Type Design Bureau in 3 styles in 1951–53 by Lev Malanov and Elena Tsaregorodtseva. The fonts were based on Cyrillic version of Excelsior that was developed in 1936 in Moscow by professor Michael Shchelkunov, Nikolay Kudryashev et al., that in its turn was based on Excelcior by Chauncey H. Griffith, 1931, Mergenthaler Linotype. Digital version was developed in ParaGraph (ParaType) in 1991. In 2012–13 designer Natalia Vasilyeva made some corrections in original digital data, extended character set and add bold italic style. The family was rereleased in ParaType in 2013.

In the days before the Interstate Highway system, you were likely to encounter a series of signs like this, somewhere in the backwoods between the large and small towns connected by the U.S. Highway system. The fonts in this series are based on the typefaces used on U.S. Highway signs from the 1930s to the 1950s. Included in each font are a sign shield in the backslash position, and a Burma-Shave logo in the section mark position. The Truetype and Opentype versions contain the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

Handsome, adventurous, legible and elegant, this script has the feel of practical handwriting from past centuries. Aquiline is based on a cursive italic style influenced by the 16th century European writing masters. The Aquiline design team turned to Ludovico degli Arrighi, the great 16th century writing master, for period ideas on how to improve, strengthen and add grace to the font. Aquiline has strokes and gestures that seem very like the writing of Arrighi and Mercator, such as the flamboyant balloon of a flourish on the cap A; the graceful flourishes on the cap B, D, and L; and the compact lowercase with tall ascenders. Curwen Sans is a monoline sans-serif dating from the early twentieth century. Though contemporary with Johnston’s Underground and Gill Sans, and emerging from the same artistic milieu, Curwen Sans was created solely for in-house use at the Curwen Press in London so never achieved a wide audience or recognition.
