Daddy The Comicaze is fun handwriting font, it was inspired by our love of cartoons and comic books, but as always, we wanted to add a little bit of humor to it. So we played around with the kerning and spacing until we came up with something that was both fun-looking and easy to read. What else is special about Daddy The Comicaze? Well, for one thing, it includes a lot of different characters! There are tons of punctuation marks and accented letters you won't find in normal fonts. A year after the tremendous success of Memoriam in the "Lives They Lived" issue of the New York Times magazine at the end of 2008, Patrick Griffin and Nancy Harris Rouemy teamed up once more to tackle the same project for the 2009 issue. This time the magazine's design concept revolved around a typeface they created specifically for custom vertical malleability, and that can play just as well in single- or multi-color environments. The result was another iconic commemorative issue that shows exotic tri-line letters merging, swashing, extending and flourishing in stunning gold, silver and blue on black on the cover, and in black on white on the inside pages. Just like in the previous year, the issue won multiple publication design and typography awards. Crescendo is that typeface, finally issued for retail by public demand. Pulse JP is a constructivist text and display font that differs from comparable fonts due to its special sharpness and harmonious balance. Its technical and constructed form creates a somewhat artificial impression of special appeal. It is ideal for display on the screen and is used in many projects. Pulse JP is a super family consisting of 48 weights from compressed to expanded in 6 fat gradations each. In 1972, VGC released two typefaces by designer friends Dick Jensen and Harry Villhardt. Jensen’s was called Serpentine, and Villhardt’s was called Venture. Even though both faces had the same elements and a somewhat similar construct, one of them became very popular and chased the other away from the spotlight. Serpentine went on to become the James Bond font, the Pepsi and every other soda pop font, the everything font, all the way through the glories of digital lala-land where it was hacked, imitated and overused by hundreds of designers. But the only advantage it really had over Venture was being a 4-style family, including the bold italic that made it all the rage, as opposed to Venture’s lone upright style. One must wonder how differently things would have played if a Venture Italic was around back then. Chopper is Canada Type’s revival of Venture, that underdog of 1972. This time around it comes with a roman, an italic, and corresponding biform styles to make it a much more attractive and refreshing alternative to Serpentine. Chopper comes in all popular formats, boasts extended language support, and contains a ton of alternate characters sprinkled throughout the character map.

Sidewinder JNL is based on ultra-compressed serif wood type and is perfect for fitting long copy into limited space.

Evening Gown JNL comes from the lettering displayed on a printed ad for the fictional "Gowns by Roberta" in a scene in the 1935 film of the same name. "Roberta" starred Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and was based on the successful 1933 stage play.

Ring O Fire was inspired by a game I used to play where you suspend a coin over a glass with a paper napkin and take turns burning holes in the napkin with a cigarette until the coin drops. Is that weird or what?

The 1938 sheet music for the official Coast Guard Marching Song "Semper Paratus" "(Always Ready)" offered up a hand lettered title in a bold block style with rounded corners and an inline. This is now available as Stationer JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Alan Birch created the LCD font in 1981. Its name is an abbreviation of the words Liquid Crystal Display," the display technology used in digital watches and clocks the world over. LCD is a great choice when a futuristic, high-tech look is desired.

The name ‘HARBER’ comes from the first letters drawn. It is a sans serif family designed of dots on a grid, that gives it this round and rhythmic aesthetic. Only dots grow, approaching or moving away, changing the aspect of letters but keeping its characteristics.

This came from an early-1900s lettering book. Never was an actual font, but it has a quaint look that should be useful. We hate to see alphabets just fade away, which is why we make fonts like this. We added a few touches.

This would be a Clarendon if it weren't for the cute serifs, which set it apart. Reads well in copy blocks.

The other day I was at a market with my kids and they had this really retro kind of circus thing. The signs and posters there, were designed in a really sloppy and poor manner - but they all had a lot of naive charm! When I created Face Your Fears some years ago, it was an instant hit. I have seen it on Gangsta Rap albums, metal albums, books and on movie posters. It has been used for T-shirts, websites and, believe it or not, for a beer label as well. I have always toyed with the idea of redoing the original font, as some of the glyphs were a bit off. Face Your Fears II is similar in nature to the original font, but comes with a lot of improvements, has slightly altered glyphs and (probably) better kerning.
