French supermarkets are full of lettering with a handwriting flavor, which seems to go very well with a wide range of very different products. With the aim to analyze and summarize the qualities of these letterings in one typeface, I faced choices and limits similar to the ones encountered with handwriting. The letters are sloped at different angles, which gives them rhythm; their open shapes suggest movement and gesture. Nagel is a contemporary uniwidth display sans serif for headlines and short texts. It’s a closed low-contrast typeface with an emphasis on stroke joints. The length of the line set in Nagel remains the same in all weights. Nagel has all the advantages of monospaced typeface graphics, but none of their functional disadvantages. Characters in Nagel are made monospace-like wide, as opposed to traditionally narrow characters of proportional fonts, and often have slab serifs. Letters of monospaced fonts that have to be narrowed down considerably, have the usual width here. The scope of Nagel is branding and identity of IT companies, infographics, scientific and technical documentation — any areas where a technical, modern typeface with distinctive graphics may be required. The typeface includes three upright styles — Regular, Medium, Bold; two sets of 11 and 18 slanting degrees and a variable version with two axes: Weight and Slant. Enamela (rhymes with Pamela) is a monoline square sans that is available in normal width and condensed versions. Although rooted in the early years of sans serif type, the Enamela fonts have a timeless quality that is practical and unpretentious. The letterforms derive from vitreous enamel signage dating from the Victorian era and widely used in Britain for street nameplates, Post Office signs, the plates on James Ludlow wall postboxes, railway signs and direction signs, as well as for circular Automobile Association wayfinding plaques throughout the first half of the twentieth century. The quirky terminals, stemming from the compression of geometric type, invite comparison with the Charles Wright fonts used for UK vehicle registration plates. Enamela and Enamela Condensed are both available in three weights – regular, medium and bold – and as italics (optically corrected obliques). A commonly used alternative M with a vertex that touches the baseline is provided at the Alt-M (µ) keystroke on a Mac, or Alt-0181 on Windows. Quiroga Serif began in 2007 with the name Quadratta Serif. This typography was designed for continuous text, legible at medium and small sizes, with great saving of space, optimized for 6, 8, 10 and 12 points. The morphology is a mix between tradition and innovation; it has a vertical axis, thick serifs, tall x-height, light modulation and a lot of internal space between letters: key to improve legibility at small sizes. Formally, my idea was to make a serif type that had a unique color, this is visible due to the light modulation. This is also complemented with the incorporation of not common, alternative signs. Some parts of the letters that are usually curb or diagonal where made horizontal (for example: a, q, p, etc.), this makes the eye of each character to be wide and unique. The serifs (wedge type) suffered diverse variations during the process. At the begining they where thicker and ended vertically, but this caused a great deal of printing errors. And so we decided to modify them by giving them an angle to avoid visible errors in medium and small sizes. The ch, and ll ligatures where rescued because they are a part of our current spanish alphabet. The historic ligatures and stylistic alternates give different options to users who want different alternatives within a text. The accentuation signs were composed in a middle line above all signs to avoid visual shock. We also gave plenty of importance to small caps numbers, mathematical signs and currency signs so that the could interact well.

Amitale (A-mi-tah'-lay) is the union of Amitale Book and Amitale Wide into a new 8-font book family in my continuing objective of designing a better font family for readability in booklets. My goal here is for a full range of styles from light, regular, bold, and black without the plugged counters and clunky feel of most bold fonts. In my use, personally. I do not use Amitale Book Bold. I use Wide for the bold and Wide-Bold for the black style. In many ways, Amitale is Brinar with bracketed serifs. Many people find Brinar to be an exceptionally readable and beautiful humanist sans. This new serif font family has many of the same characteristics. This is also the debut of my new OpenType features set for 2009. There are more and more ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more. Mynaruse Royale is an expansion of Mynaruse Titling. It features script capitals and widely tracked and smaller titling capitals. Mynaruse Royale has plenty of character and, with its powerful and sharp serifs it draws in the eye. Mynaruse Royale is useful in settings that call for titling with an extra touch of elegance, such as a storefront, wedding program or formal invitation. Mynaruse Royale contains a number of OpenType alternates, including alternate forms for the capitals that are large, drop cap like capitals instead of the calligraphic script capitals found in the default forms. Additionally, there are non-widely tracked lowercase forms that work well with the included alternate characters and ligatures. The lowercase forms are 80% smaller in height than the Mynaruse lowercase forms, so the families are not interchangeable, but they can be used together.
