In the late 1990s Gerard Unger won the assignment to design the signage system for the Holy Year celebrations to be held in Rome in 2000. The system he developed in cooperation with the design agency n|p|k used a classically inspired serif typeface, but the earlier proposals included a sans-serif, which became Vesta (2001). Vesta is a versatile family that can be used as a display face alongside Unger's serif faces Gulliver, Capitolium or Coranto; it can also be used on its own, even in longer texts. Vesta is narrower and therefore more economical than some commonly used sans serifs such as Arial and Helvetica; there is also a noticeable contrast between thick and thin parts, which makes it more lively. The distinctive features of TT Tricks are the relatively low contrast of strokes, the slightly squarish shapes of round characters and the emphasized businesslike nature. The original idea of TT Tricks is based on the graduation project of student Sofia Yasenkova, who chose to create a daily planner font as her final project. This led to many stylistic decisions, for example, the large and asymmetrical serifs, low contrast strokes, and the presence of interesting details. In the process of working on TT Tricks, we have significantly revised the initial idea and expanded the areas of possible font application, while maintaining the original spirit of the project. Despite the large number of display details, the typeface looks great in a small point size, and also when it is used in large text arrays. TT Tricks features an original stylistic set which, when turned on, adds features of typical pointed-pen serifs to some of the lowercase characters. The joy of pure geometry, revisited. Geometric typefaces are a staple in every typographer’s toolbox since the 1920s. It was a time when iconic faces such as Futura, Erbar, and Kabel appeared on the scene and turned the world of type upside-down. Inspired by those early giants as well as later epigones with a legacy of their own (such as 1970’s Avant Garde Gothic), Flink is the Identity Letters take on this genre, characterized by a clean and focused appearance. With neat shapes and the look of pure geometry, Flink adapts to a vast range of applications and topics, from the fine print in contract to website body copy to logo design to billboard-size slogans. Its x-height is considerably larger than in classic geometric sans-serif fonts; its proportions are harmonized as opposed to strictly constructed. Bunyan Pro is the synthesis of Bunyan, the last face Eric Gill designed for hand setting in 1934 and Pilgrim, the machine face based on it, issued by British Linotype in the early 1950s — the most popular Gill text face in Britain from its release until well into the 1980s. Gill’s last face doesn't date itself anywhere near as obviously as Gill’s other serif faces, which were all really products of their time, heavily influenced by the richly ornamental and constantly changing aesthetic trends of the interwar period. When compared to Gill’s previous work, Bunyan seems like a revolution in the way he thought and drew. It’s as if he was shrugging off all heavy burden of what was popular, and going back to the basics of older standards. Bunyan had no bells and whistles, doesn't risk functionality with contrasts that are too high or too low, and didn't venture far outside the comfortable oldstyle rhythm Gill grew up with. By interbellum standards, this was utter austerity, a veritable denial of deco excess. Surprisingly, even without all the cloying trivialities, Bunyan still stood indisputably as an aesthetically pleasing, space saving design that could have been made only by Eric Gill. Bunyan Pro comes in three weights and their italics. The main font is intended for use between 8 and 14 points. The medium and the bold are great for emphasis but also have good merit in larger sizes, so can make effective display types as well. All six fonts include small caps, ligatures, alternates, six sets of figures, and three original Gill manicules. We tried to keep the best features of the handset (Bunyan) and machine (Pilgrim) versions while building a text face that can function in today’s immersive reading media. Deciding on which useful letterpress features to preserve for aesthetic importance was hell on our eyeballs — which lead to complex and painstaking ways of ironing out irregularities and inconsistencies related to metal technologies, in order to provide something with authenticity. The result is a unique typeface based on a Gill design that, to a much greater extent than any of his other faces, works well as a text face that can be used for entire books and magazines. Cloudbuster is K-Type’s take on the mid twentieth century style of extra condensed slabs/moderns inspired by Imre Reiner’s Corvinus Skyline of 1934. Unusually, Cloudbuster has a printed-look softness, courtesy of very slightly rounded corners throughout, so it looks a little less harsh than similar typefaces. The font is an imposing display face with elegant, unfussy letterforms and a generous x-height.

Johabu is based on Gebrochene Fraktur, a lighter softer sort of type, compared to the German forms of the same period. Johabu was drawn by Johannes Bureus, around 1620, cut and cast by Peter van Selow in Stockholm.
