The concept of this letter is a young alligator. Young crocodiles have lean bodies and are agile. It has uncontrollable power, and the angular leather vinyl and teeth feel vivid. This font was created to convey the most compressed energy possible through a collection of compressed squares. Although it doesn't attack, it is quite an aggressive letter.

This original typeface appears to be lifted straight from an old crumpled piece of parchment or from a pirate map. Roughcast is a kind of outside plaster, composed of cement and pebbles. It’s not the best looking plaster and it is estimated that in the UK, a roughcast outer reduces the value of a house by 5%. I am in the middle of renovating our old farm, but I won’t cover it in roughcast! Roughcast font is actually quite an attractive brush font. I made it with a brush I found hiding underneath my stove (where it had been for a while). I cleaned it and used it to make a couple of fonts, including Roughcast. Roughcast is best used for packaging, book covers and posters.

Barbieri is a casual sans type family, based on a German lettering style from the 1960s. The original hand-drawn alphabet was used in a rather peculiar edition of Der Barbier von Bagdad, an opera composed by Peter Cornelius. For many decades, the fashion magazine “Vogue” featured superbly illustrated covers before photography became more commonplace. During the 1930s and 1940s those illustrations were accompanied by many creative styles of hand lettering for its monthly issues. The January, 1930 cover had the magazine’s name lettered in an Art Deco geometric monoline, which became the inspiration for Vagary JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. A vagary [in a simple sense] is when something or someone changes in an erratic or unexpected way (as the wind’s direction or in a person’s mood or whim)… and thus seemed the fitting name for this type style.

A fairy tale, is a folklore genre that takes the form of a short story. Story tale, is a new type family for wonderous, romantic, magical and playful narratives brought to you by Resitenza. The 1970s were wild and whimsical times. Book covers from this time were iconic, innovative and enduring; bold colour and stylised pattern dominated. Story Tales forms were inspired by 70s books covers, and aims to encapsulate the zeitgeist of the time, but the typeface is by no means constrained to revivals of this era. There are nods to 60's flower power & psychedelia, chromatic type and decorative queues from the 1800s and the spirit of post-war era children's almanacks. It is also perfectly suited to inspiring curiosity, imagination and fantasy in today's audiences. Each of Story Tales 8 styles (4 upright and 4 italics) stack on top of one another giving the designer broad aesthetic range. This layering of styles and the ornamental illumination allows striking multi-coloured typography for your book covers, editorial and poster designs.

Corton was inspired by the traditional lettering on a gravestone in an English village. While that might sound a rather solemn beginning, Corton has wonderfully lively air, with distinctive lively serifs and beautifully swashed downstrokes. Sheet music for the song “The Little Thing You Used to Do” (from the 1935 motion picture “Go into your Dance” starring Al Jolson and Ruby Keeler) had its title set in what closely resembled Bank Gothic Condensed. [Bank Gothic was originally designed by Morris Fuller Benton for American Type Founders circa 1930.] This reinterpreted version is now known as Stenographer JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The front page of a late-1940s sales catalog for the [now defunct] Duro Decal Company of Chicago had its company name hand-lettered in a tall, condensed chamfered sans serif type design. Although chamfered lettering had been popular for decades, the way the "R" was shaped gave the letters a bit of an Art Deco influence, and this influence was carried through in the creation of Durable JNL.

A vintage British lettering stencil was the inspiration for Sandwell Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. This pleasant and condensed stencil font was originally a semi-stencil – many of the characters were made as solid letters ,while the others had a traditional stencil treatment. Clarinetist Milton ?Mezz? Mezzrow (1899-1972) was a remarkable jazz musician, as becomes evident upon reading his autobiography Really the Blues. His sharp tone and serpentine lines inspired English lettering artist and jazz lover Michael Harvey to create a condensed, oblique display typeface with the look of a chiseled alphabet in the musician's honor. Vertical formats such as book jackets and posters will be invigorated by Mezz as the display face.

Meyer Two captures the early Hollywood flavor and nostalgia of silent-film intertitles. From 1922 through 1928, Mergenthaler Linotype cut five fonts to Louis B. Meyer’s personal specifications. Meyer Two, drawn in 1926, curiously combines Cleland’s ATF Della Robbia capitals of 1902 with lowercase and figures from ATF Post Monotone No. 2, also from the same period. Meyer Two was revived, with a Condensed added, by David Berlow; FB 1994

Call the lettering French Clarendon Condensed, call it circus lettering, wanted poster type or Old West letters, the style of this typeface is one of the most recognizable and evokes all of the above images and more. Tent Show JNL was re-drawn from examples of a vintage set of wood type, and contains all of the eccentricities that are present in these hand-routed classic letter forms.

Fisterra Morte and Fisterra Fora: one typeface, two perspectives. The duality between the calm and the intensity with which we can face with each situation. Informal, serif and display in two flavors: Morte has the softness and the humanism of its voluptuous curves; Fora, the precision and accuracy of its sharp angles. They share a single skeleton of condensed uppercase letters, with expanded nuances in some alternate characters and ligatures.

A condensed loose brush style. This font has a breezy elegance and casual sophistication, yet in a different context or color, it could be seen as nervous and urban. A weird dichotomy. Set in smallish text blocks, it has a surprisingly even color. This is due to a balace that has been struck between keeping the roughness and idiosyncracies of a hand-drawn face but ensuring an overall regularity.
