Bouteilles is French for bottles. No fancy name this time, just bottles. You’re probably wondering why I chose this name… Well, I was taking out the glass (in Holland we recycle just about everything, glass, paper, plastic, metal, garden and kitchen waste, etc.), which included a number of French wine bottles. As I was throwing them into the underground container one block from where I live, I realised that the word Bouteilles actually sounds great and it would be a nice name for a font! Yes, it is that simple! Bouteilles is a nice brush font I made with my trusted Chinese ink and a really worn brush I found. It comes with all the diacritics you need plus two sets of alternates, which you can play with!

Cowhand is a display typeface designed by Toshi Omagari to keep words at one specific width. Words of one letter will have one very wide character, words of two letters will have characters of half that width and so forth. At the maximum of 20-letter words, characters become very tightly compressed. The design of the Cowhand typeface is inspired by western style block printing with reverse stress that is characterised by chunky slab serifs. This Lite version of the typeface was designed as part of a font marathon over the course of 3.5 days in Monotype’s NY office. I have completely redone the spacing in this font, making the sidebearings more conventional. And after replacing the kerning with fresh pairs working together with the new spacing the font looks like a real gem. I love it! The inline version has a wider spacing after the letters CEK = no connecting words. Otherwise just as lovely and retro! Besley Clarendon ML is our version of the Clarendon registered by Robert Besley and the Fann Street Foundry in 1845. Besley Clarendon ML represents a significant change from the slab-serif Antiques & Egyptians that had become so popular in the prior three decades. Like Caslon’s Ionic of 1844, it brackets the serifs and strongly differentiates between the thick and thin strokes. Besley Clarendon is also what today is considered a condensed face, as a comparison to the various contemporary Clarendons will show. Robert Besley’s Clarendon was so popular that many foundries quickly copied it, a fact that caused him to complain vigorously. The reason it was so widely copied is simple ó it was extremely useful. It provided the attention-getting boldness to highlight a word or phrase, yet at the same time was compact and easier to read than the fat faces and antiques of the period. It wasn't until sixty years later that the concept of a typeface family of different weights was developed with DeVinne and Cheltenham. Until then, Clarendon served as everyone’s all-purpose bold face. It can be used for ads, flyers, headers or even short text. Don't leave home without it. Beyond broadcast Like Truman Burbank, the star of The Truman Show, FS Truman was born for TV. You’ll know it from Sky One’s on-screen trails and announcements, but it’s just as at home in other media. Its starting point was the skeleton of a highly legible, space-saving, corporate font with some of FS Dillon’s geometric discipline built in. Its distinctive tone of voice and “ownability” are in its boxy but friendly shapes, and characters with hybrid features. FS Truman’s weights and widths were honed to work at TV screen resolutions. A face for TV it may have been, but this is a font that works on every level, on screen, in print, in headlines, in listings, in longer text, in tight corners and open spaces. The space-saver Compact, condensed but crystal clear, FS Truman comes into its own where a lot needs to be said in not a lot of space. Its letter spacing allows the type room to breathe, even at small sizes, while its fulsome x-height and diminutive descenders pave the way for tighter leading. A natural for headlines and titles over three or four lines. “Hybrid” features With every font, Fontsmith look for crafty new ways to imbue letterforms with a consistent character. The idea with FS Truman was to introduce “hybrid” features. In open letters such as “c” and “s”, for example, the top terminals have straight, vertical cuts while their lower terminals have a more angular, cursive finish. Boxy, spacious forms with unusual curves and angles create not just highly legible and efficient letters but strongly distinctive ones, too.

FF Good is a straight-sided sans serif in the American Gothic tradition, designed by Warsaw-based Łukasz Dziedzic. Despite having something of an “old-fashioned” heritage, FF Good feels new. Many customers agree: the sturdy, legible forms of FF Good have been put to good use in the Polish-language magazine ‘Komputer Swiat,’ the German and Russian edition of the celebrity tabloid OK!, and the new corporate design for the Associated Press. Although initially released as a family of modest size, the typeface was fully overhauled in 2010, increasing it from nine styles to 30 styles, with an additional 30-style sibling for larger sizes, FF Good Headline. In 2014, the type system underwent additional expansion to become FontFont’s largest family ever with an incredible 196 total styles. This includes seven weights ranging from Light to Ultra, and an astonishing seven widths from Compressed to Extended for both FF Good and FF Good Headline, all with companion italics and small caps in both roman and italic. With its subtle weight and width graduation, it is the perfect companion for interface, editorial, and web designers. This allows the typographer to pick the style best suited to their layout. As a contemporary competitor to classic American Gothic style typefaces—like Franklin Gothic, News Gothic, or Trade Gothic—it was necessary that an expanded FF Good also offers customers both Text and Display versions. The base FF Good fonts are mastered for text use, while FF Good Headline aims for maximum compactness. Its low cap height together with trimmed ascenders and descenders give punch to headlines and larger-sized copy in publications such as newspapers, magazines, and blogs.

Everybody likes to have a picnic: some fresh fruits, cheese, ham, wine and so on. Like a “typographic picnic,” Typnic font system gathers many fonts with different flavors too, and you can enjoy them mixed or on their own. Typnic was drawn and calligraphed by hand and is made with eighteen typefaces, including three totally compatible yet different styles. It also has enhancement sets containing labels, dingbats, patterns and ornaments. The Headline style has six layered fonts that can be mixed in a wide variety of combinations to obtain powerful mastheads and headlines. It can be used to construct very nice advertising pieces. If you need to write informal texts, then use Typnic Script, which also comes in six variants and additionally has a complementary font with tails, double letters and ornamented ascenders. Finally, use Typnic Roman to add some secondary texts without losing the general appearance of your work. Typnic has a cool and natural feeling and could be used in all sorts of projects.
