The typeface Weiner Grotesk, designed by Rudolf Geyer for the H. Berthold AG foundry of Berlin in 1912, provides the pattern for this classic Jugendstil font. The design is very versatile: used as all caps, you can create elegant, compact headlines; and, as upper and lower, you can create subheads with decidedly dramatic contrast. Either way, this one is a "Weiner". All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

This is the companion sans family to make the Librum serif families work as well as they do. By companion, I do mean stylistically compatible. But mainly, they have the same vertical metrics. So they work very well for run-in heads, inline character styles, and all the rest of the needs in large books with complex formatting. They are designed for use in InDesign, and they work very well in that environment. The fonts use the same OpenType feature files as the rest of the Librum families. The feature files for the italic and bold are more limited—as I have rarely used things like that [over the past 20+ years]. The character shapes are a bit whimsical. The original ancestor of this book design sans was a very playful font I released as Aerle. It’s been calmed down a lot but is still loose and friendly. During the studies, additional attention was given to the American representatives of the genre, resulting in the initial impetus for a reinterpretation, combining both paths into one contemporary design. This is reflected in the name, blending together the names of the most popular typefaces of each genres, (Fran)klin and Helveti(ca). Due to its large x-height and plain design, the family is perfectly suited for all kinds of text. Its mid-weights are optimized for usage in long paragraphs, while the bolder weights, due to a short descender and ascender, create a compact and confident look in headlines or short copy. In order to create strong and dynamic italics, the oblique glyph shapes come with a faint calligraphic hint, defined by a higher stroke contrast and a steeper connection between stems and arcs in, for example, h n m and u. This is followed by different standard shapes for a and y, supporting the dynamic movement of the lowercase in general. A wide range of OpenType features such as ligatures, old style figures, fractions, case-sensitive shapes and many more, are available for professional and contemporary typesetting. This is completed with eleven alternative glyph sets, enabling a quick customization of the typeface. The family supports up to 92 languages and comes with 500+ glyphs per font.

These two extra bold fonts are classic slab serif wood type styles with one detail of difference. Columbian is an extra bold Clarendon wood type that was manufactured by many of the wood type manufacturers in the late 19th century. "Clarendons" feature bracketed or rounded serif joins whereas "Antique" was a class of typefaces that features squared off slab serifs. Some type designs have only minor differences from others. The Columbian design is essentially identical to Wm. Page & Co.'s "Antique no. 4", with the difference being the bracketed serifs. In researching material for the digitization of Columbian, we started with a 15 line font identified as "Columbian" shown in the Angelica Press wood type portfolio (printed in 1976). This font is in fact "Page Antique no. 4". Comparing Antique #4 to Columbian specimens from Hamilton and other manufacturers confirms the only real difference is the serif treatments. Therefore, both fonts are presented as a pair. Each font features a full Western & Central European character set.

This set of initial decorated letters is an entirely original creation, drawn inspired by Italian renaissance engraver Vespasiano Amphiareo's paterns published in Venice circa 1568. It contains two roman alphabets : the first of large Initials, the second of small caps. Both containing thorn, eth, L & l slash, O & o slash. It can be used as variously as web-site titles, posters and flyers design, publishing texts looking like ancient ones, or greeting cards, all various sorts of presentations, as a very decorative, elegant and luxurious additional font... This font is conceived for enlargements remaining very smart and fine. The original height of the initials is at least about one inch equivalent to about four lines of characters, small caps may have the same height than the caps of the font used with, but cover two lines is better. This font may be used with all GLC blackletter fonts, but preferably with "1543 Humane Jenson", "1557 Italic", "1742 Civilite", "1776 Independence" without any fear for doing anachronism.
