During the turbulent era of the 1960s, the youth of America found various ways to protest against "The Establishment". Whether it was campus unrest, protest songs, sit-ins or other methods, the message was the counter-culture movement. Arising from this disenchantment with traditional social standards, a small but effective means of protest arose that made no sound, yet spoke volumes - the pin button. Statements against the war in Vietnam, free love, drug use and other messages popped up on little metal discs pinned to tee shirts, suspenders, head band and hats. The concept for Vista began when I sketched a few characters in a notebook while staying in Sumatra on a one month holiday. I wanted to design a typeface for text and display that would retain some of the characteristics of the idiosyncratic shop signs that surrounded me in Sumatra. - Xavier Dupré The result is a comprehensive family spanning six weights, complete with small caps and lively alternate forms, striking a healthy balance between functionality and expressiveness. Each of the six weights includes alternate, small cap and italic variants for a total of 36 fonts in the family. They are available in a full volume of 36 fonts, or in four packages. The packages are grouped into two sets of contrasting weights, with the alternates and small caps divided into separate packages.

Many current poster artists like to reference the graphic type styles that were popular in the ’60s and ’70s. Zaftig is a contemporary font that takes the geometric and blocky inspiration from that era but then steps off in a modern direction. At first glance, it may appear that the capitals of Zaftig all take up the same amount of space, but certain letters have been designed proportionally for a better flow. However, if the designer would prefer to stack the capital letters in even columns, like blocks, then one can use the Titling Alternates feature. In this feature the metrics of all the capital letters are the same, and certain letters have been designed narrower, allowing for seamless stacking. The space, bullet, asterisk have also been given the same monospaced metrics in this feature to make stacking easy. The Small Caps feature in Zaftig is designed so that the small cap glyphs are the same height as the lowercase. This allows the graphic designer not only the option of small caps, but also the ability to mix and match both kinds of letters to create a distinctive style. C.P. Company is a group of types including 4 different forms and it is a complementary sign of communication for the C.P. Company clothes maker. C.P. Company communication makes use of media such as the press and the web and that’s the reason why we have always felt the need for a font that would not show incongruities through the monitor. Therefore we have decided to change the structure of glyphs like a, e, g, s… in the most contrasted versions to prevent the serifs from touching the internal parts of the letters and in this manner we have made a really unusual stylistic choice for a group of types. The difference between the height of caps and smalls is very low (about 20%) so that the smalls are easy to read even when their dimensions are on a very small scale. Moreover this stylistic solution gives the possibility to avoid using the small capitals in case of charts and catalogue codes (i.e. Tricot M5) and provides more vertical compactness between the lines. Even a sentence written in capital letters next to another one written in smalls does not look so much contrasted from a typographical point of view and then it is not unpleasant. The limits due to different constructive principles have been overcome by means of a grid based on the automatic division of EM square of 9-point type and in this manner the letters have a wider face. The font is even more unusual owing to the style chosen that belongs to the classical tradition of hair-lined types for glyphs like e and also thanks to ligatures like ? in the characters set. CP Company is a geometrical font whose alphabet makes use of the style of types that preceded the Helvetica, matched with more experimental and updated solutions. Numbering is monospaced. The bending of number 2, the slight raising of the oblique serif of number 4 and the presence of a hair-line in number 7 are the solutions adopted to make the types match in a more balanced manner.

The Lamia font is inspired by the work of the most famous calligrapher of the Basque Country, Jose Francisco de Iturzaeta Eizaguirre (Getaria1788-Madrid 1853). His writing method was compulsory in Spanish schools since 1835. His "unpolished Spanish font" tried to be more effective than the more commercial English version by avoiding embellishments and excessive rear tearing. More akin with the liberal values imported by the French, his offerings sought uniformity, speed and efficiency to ensure that those in the less-favored echelons of society had an effective communication tool. From his "general collection of characters of European Letters" published in Madrid in 1833, we have chosen the "lower case pancilla reformed" represented in one of the prints. We have tried to reinterpret it by keeping its essence but also ensuring that it is viable for potential contemporary uses which, thanks to its good readability and effectiveness in longer texts, basically means as a decorative or display font. The upper case was generated using the lower case as a reference.

Guaruja Grotesk is the first Tipogra Fio family for headlines & body copy. The grotesque form factor is much inspired in the Modernism movement from the mid of 20th Century but the Italic weight is a great cursive contrast aside the Roman ones so you can make very brutalist layouts or craft humanist projects, without losing the communication between all the family. Do not be afraid to type words with uppercase I and lowercase L because this last one has its own personality so do others glyphs like Italic lowercase G, Y and K and the straight corners in the Roman uppercase A, K, V, W, X, Y and Z.
