The “Kiez“ is an old school style font designed by Elena Albertoni in 2016. Inspired by shop and bar signage of the sixties and seventies, which can still be found today in the so called “Kiez“ in Hamburg St. Pauli or in one or another “Kiez“ in Berlin, which means neighborhood here. It also has a cinematic touch, again: think of the sixties and seventies or your favorite b-movie.

Back in 2013 I released an all caps font called Rum Doodle. Rum Doodle is a really nice, really weird font with angular glyphs and a unique look. I decided that it would be nice to tweak this font a bit and design a lower case for it. The result is Chew On This. I chose that name for no apparent reason - so don’t make a fuss about it…

Croma Sans, created in 2016, is a linear sans with a controlled and distinct graphic flavour. The Croma Sans family consists of 16 styles and is well suited for ambitious typography. Inspired by an old house font of an anthroposophical hospital in Germany, this font was created: coarse, irregular, with corners and edges. Designed by Ceyhun Birinci from 2014-17, is a comprehensive typeface family with 162 fonts. It offers 9 weights with true italics in normal, condensed, and extended widths. Each font contains over 1500 glyphs and supports multilingual including Latin and Cyrillic. It includes various Opentype features like small caps, alternates, and more. The font also provides separate alternates and small caps versions for use in software without OpenType support.

QUIPO is a typeface based on my recent survey (Freeflow) on hand drawn logotypes used by American and English pop groups in the 60-70s. We thought it an interesting project and a free flow exercise to design this particular font just in capitals and well... yes it’s rather ‘bulky’. Oh Honey is a handmade, feminine, new retro serif font made in 2021 by an artist who wanted to create an organic font to stand out in a world of rigid letterforms. According to one font enthusiast, "This font is the typographic zeitgeist!"

A universal text type was designed by Natalia Vasilyeva for ParaType in 2007. The type family is consist of 8 styles. Also corresponding decorative italic with calligraphic swash capitals was developed. The type has low contrast characters and narrow proportion. It is rather space-saved but very legible even in small sizes. For use in text and display typography. The upgraded version with extended character set was released in 2010.

Lehmann Egyptian is a font of three styles, based on the pre-revolutionary hand set fonts by Berthold and Lehmann type foundries in St. Petersburg. Designed mainly for display typography, the font works well in small texts too. There's also a quite useful bonus — a stylistic set of historical forms. Lehmann Egyptian was designed by Albert Kapitonov in cooperation with Dmitry Kirsanov and released by ParaType in 2018.

Artigo Display is the odd sister of Artigo text typeface. It is a contemporary interpretation of handwriting shapes in a display version of the italic. It is more expressive and it has its own personality. It was renovated with five new weights that bring more flexibility to use the typeface in different mediums. Usage Suggestions: This type-system enables the user to ornate and generate endless decorative patterns, borders, labyrinthine designs, Mosaics, motifs, etc. It can seem just like a puzzle, but a much greater tool instead for higher purposes as to compose Enigmas and use seriously. As like also to write Real Text by assembling the key characters or pieces, this way you can literarily reproduce any Pixel Design or font to its Prismatic Spirals correspondent form, as Kufic Arabic script and further languages and compose messages easily… This Typeface was made to be contemplated, applied, and manufactured on Infinite Decorative Designs as Pavements, Tapestry, Frames, Prints, Fabrics, Bookplates, Coloring Books, Cards, covers or architectonic frontispieces, storefronts, and Jewelry, for example. Regarding to export PNGs images in Software’s for layered Typesetting as Adobe Illustrator a final procedure may be required, once the designs are done and can be backup it, expanding and applying merge filter, will remove a few possible line glitches and be perfected. Technical Specifications: With 8 styles and 4 subfamilies with 2 complementary weights each (Regular and Bold) therefore, Original Contour, Filled, Decor, with reticle’s decorations and 2 Map fonts with key captions. *All fonts match perfectly when central pasted for layered typesetting. All fonts have 106 glyphs, in which 96 are different keys with 2 versions of each of both caps and shift keys, plus a few repeated for facilitating. It was settled this way in order for exchanging with its Prismatic relative fonts which has only 48 different keys repeated twice. Concerning tiles manufacturing and Printed Products as stickers or Stencils, any of its repeated pieces was measured and just rotated in different directions in each key, so when sided by other pieces in any direction will fit perfectly without mispatching errors. Kulturista is an unmistakeable linear slab serif typeface with pronounced rectangular serifs. The drawings are based on the sans-serif Nudista typeface, and Kulturista also inherits Nudista’s distinctive narrowed character proportions, range of weights and glyph sets. The italics are inclined sufficiently, and have the same width and colouring as the plain styles. They aren’t just a mechanically-slanted version of the basic styles, as is often the case for typefaces derived from geometrical images — a whole range of characters have their own drawn variants, which greatly strengthens their highlight function. The italics are therefore an equal partner for the roman styles. Kulturista is definitely a good choice for a headline typeface for magazines and book covers. The range of boldness can come in handy when editing sections, headlines and supplements. The typeface understandably proves itself as a healthy foundation for a unified visual style, and holds up at display sizes as well as on shorter texts.

Two attractive cast metal door signs reading "Men" and "Ladies" from back in the Art Deco era inspired the idea for Nameplate JNL. The left parenthesis key starts the border decoration, and the right parenthesis key closes it off. Nameplate JNL has just a basic A-Z and numeral set; the letters "floating" within the parallel lines of the border to form complete nameplates, apartment numbers or any similarly encased words. A period, comma, apostrophe and dash are on their respective keys. A small blank space is on the left bracket key, a medium space is on the right bracket key and a large space is on the left brace key. There is a small, complete frame on the right brace key. For names such as "MacDonald" or "McIntyre", the small "ac" is on the colon key and the small "c" is on the semicolon key. No kerning has been applied in order to give the type more of an antique, "mechanically assembled" look.

Dolly Pro is a book typeface with a flourishing flavour. She’s suitable for classical book type setting as well as for more contemporary magazine designs. The family consists of four fonts: Dolly Regular is neutral and useful for long texts. Dolly Italic is narrower and lighter in colour than the Regular, and so it can be used to emphasize words within Regular text. Dolly Bold is also useful in emphasizing words within Regular text. It also works well as a display type. Dolly Small Caps is intended for setting whole words or strings of characters. With its relatively low contrast, Dolly is perfectly legible in really small sizes. When Dolly is applied in bigger sizes, such as book covers, more crispy details will show up. These four fonts provide a good basis for most of the problems of book typography. Dolly Pro fonts have Underware’s Latin Plus character set, supporting a total of 219 languages.

The award-winning Scala family (1990-1993) is a worldwide bestseller and has established itself as a ‘classic’ among digital fonts. It was one of the first serious digital text fonts to support small caps, ligatures and different set of numbers. In fact Scala and Scala Sans (1990-1993) are two different typefaces sharing a common form principle: the skeletons of both Scala and Scala Sans are identical. Scala’s dark colour and low contrast works to prevent the thin parts from breaking up. The generous length of Scala italic’s serifs gives it a strong rhythm. The bold weight has the same character widths as the normal weight, so changing a text from normal into bold does not affect the set width. Another part of Scala is very popular among its users: Scala Hands, containing more than one hundred decorative hands and pointers, is a free bonus. Scala Jewels is a set of four highly decorative typefaces, based on the bold capitals of Scala.

Billowed is a typeface family inspired by a simple shape that tessellates in three different ways: in a single orientation, in two orientations, and in four orientations. The shape resembles a billowing sail, with two concave edges that are adjacent and two convex edges, also adjacent. Forcing letters into this template shape results in some oddly shaped letters, but the result should not be judged by individual letters but by how the words and strings of words appear. Billowed was designed as an alternating-letter font in which two sets of characters alternate. The alternating is done automatically in applications that support the OpenType feature contextual alternatives (calt). To get the ripple pattern not just horizontally but also vertically, lines should alternate between the right and left styles and leading set to the same value as the font size. Billowed is monospaced with tight letter spacing to accentuate the ripple pattern. The family includes outline styles that can be used in a layer above the solid style to add color. Undulate was not designed for any particular use but as a challenge to fit letters into a particular geometric shape. The unusual patterns that result are eye-catching and may be useful for advertising or signage and in other places where one wants attention-grabbing lettering.

Jesus Saves is a font based on the familiar old logo that has “JESUS” hidden within a maze-like set of multi-branched vertical bars. The characters appear to be an alien, cryptic language at first sight, perhaps even a Japanese, Chinese, or Korean language, thanks to the unusual figures created by the combinations of various letters. It is a teaser for the eyes, as well as a visual feast of De Stijl-type art. It is an attention-getting font that is cool to look at, an eye puzzle that is enticing to decipher. It’s a great font to use for striking logos (see Gallery Images) by the judicious use of ligatures, where in word settings ligatures may be used at the beginnings of words, the middle or the endings of words. Jesus Heals is the missing spaces from the Jesus Saves font, sort of like a doughnut hole font! If you use this font to fill in the spaces in the Jesus Saves font, it becomes whole, or healed, thus the name. Jesus Lives is a raised block/3D or three dimensional version of Jesus Heals. For color combinations in apps that support layering, Jesus Lives synchs and has perfect kerning register with Jesus Heals, as Jesus Heals has with Jesus Saves. Duvall is an idealization created from the Edward J. Duvall lettering. Mr. Duvall was a teacher in lettering, who was well known for his book “Modern Sign Painting” in the late 40s and early 50s. Duvall cursive script is presented in five weights, Duvall 1, as a light version, to Duvall 5 as a bold version, and Duvall Style a decorative typeface with Inline, ideal for set in color layers combined with Duvall 5. Duvall is a Script font with low contrast, not intended to be used as a type of reading, but is however well adapted to small sizes because its simple form is easy to read. It is advisable to use this font for large to medium sizes. Duvall is ideal for composition, ordinal, superior and inferior numbers, and thanks to the OpenType features you can compose with alternate characters, old style numbers and with a complete set of glyphs for Eastern and Western European languages. The Duvall set comes with a font called Duvall Ribbons, a dingbats font with which you can create interesting headlines with the taste of the advertising of the 50s. Duvall FunWords is a dingbats playing with funny words in English, French and Spanish phrases. Duvall is ideal for packaging, signs, banners, branding and graphic design in general and can be combined harmonically with your favorite sans fonts.

The use of pattern is strongly integrated into African art, craft and culture. If you are creating designs which are to have an African look, then the African Pattern Fonts are an essential resource. The patterns vary tremendously -- either gently rounded in shape, or with a stark African angularity they reflect the ethos of Africa. Some of the fonts (African Patterns 01 and 02) have been inspired by the designs of Africa without regard for specific tribes or ethnic borders. Spirit Burner is a gothic-themed display font combining the gothic characteristics with uneven edge lines and unique details to show firm, lovely, dramatic impressions. Ciseaux Matisse was inspired by the exhibition Drawing With Scissors, which I visited at the Kunsthalle Schirn in my hometown of Frankfurt am Main in 2003 and the book Jazz published in 1947 by Henri Matisse. Admittedly, before that time I wasn’t a fan of Matisse’s work, neither his late nor the early work. That definitely changed after the exhibition. While his motifs have been overused on postcards and mouspads, in front of the originals you forget those tiny pictures. Some of the works were massive—larger than 24ft. By cutting directly into the color Matisse created shapes with strong dynamics. Years later, in 2007, I used that inspiration to cut an exclusive font for a newspaper that I designed at that time (see Gallery Pictures). Later I developed that font into the four styles featured here. The cut-out style is a paper cutout; boxed is the paper background. Both linear and boxed linear have no curved outlines, so they are more aggressive. As drawing with scissors implies, all characters are cut by hand. With only uppercase letters, this font is designed for editorial use: headlines, slogans in ads, or musical usage in posters and flyers that need the little touch of the jazz scissors. In special cases the lowercase letters contain alternate shapes to the uppercase forms.
