  7. Retiro Std by Typofonderie, $59.00
Full of life Hispanic Didot in 2 optical sizes Retiro is a daring interpretation of Spanish typography. Severe, austere and yet, full of life, Retiro is a vernacular version of Castilian and Andalusian in a typical Didot. Named after a lovely park in Madrid, Retiro started life as a a bespoke typeface designed to give a unique voice to the magazine Madriz. In 2006, the founder of Madriz was looking for a Didot for his new magazine. The Didot is the archetypal typeface used in high-end magazines. Retiro is a synthesis of these high contrast styles mixed with an Hispanic mind. Result is then, after 2-3 years of work, a typeface with countless variations to establish typographic shades adapted to different sections and pages of the Madriz. In 2014, it was necessary to further revise the typeface before its launch at Typofonderie. In order to keep its originality, the unique weight was retained, but complemented with optical size variants to set highly contrasted headlines into various sizes, visually balanced. How to use Retiro optical sizes? Each font provided in Retiro family is named according to the scale of body size: 24 pt and 64 pt. Of course, these names are referring to the body sizes used in typographic design. In the “glorious old days,” the letterpress period, it was customary to cut punches directly to the size at which typefaces would be used. The punchcutter had to visually adapt his design to the engraving size. The aim was to optimize the best contrast and general weight, but also to respect both design’s and reader’s needs. In Retiro’s case, intended for large titling sizes, it’s an adaptation of this ancient practice for our contemporary uses. Although each font is named by a typographic point size, do not feel obliged to use this font at this precise size, but why not, in larger or smaller. It’s rather the concept of gradients that must be preserved in layouts, rather than strictly size numbers. It’s up to the designer to select the right font size for his own designs. Pragmatica Slabserif was designed as a complement to the popular type family Pragmatica by Vladimir Yefimov and Isabella Chaeva (1989-2004) by addition of square serifs. 9. Mimeograph Lettering JNL by Jeff Levine, $29.00
Mimeograph Lettering JNL is based on one of the numerous plastic lettering templates once manufactured by the A.B. Dick Company of Chicago and is available in both regular and oblique versions. The mimeograph utilized a porous drum which inked the backside of a waxed stencil sheet. Unlike traditional stencils which have cut out areas that are directly inked or painted, a mimeo stencil has the area to be printed scratched away by removing the wax coating with a stylus. The resulting image allows the ink from the drum to seep through the sheet and transfer to the blank paper. As with a companion font (Mimeograph Template JNL), the character shapes follow the routed letters of the template, complete with rounded terminals. A previous font release [designed with flat terminals and some alternate characters] is available as Interoffice Memo JNL.

Fragua Sans has Advanced Open Type functions, several alternative letters, full support for numbers, monetary symbols and crypto currencies and more. 681 glyphs. This typography is specially designed for advertising and editorial composition, behaving correctly in both short and medium texts and headlines where horizontal space saving is needed, being an ideal typographic system for signage, editorial or corporate design. 11. Casino Hand by MADType, $39.00
Casino Hand is a handwriting font that comes with some exciting new OpenType features*. The font comes with an alternate glyph for every uppercase letter, lowercase letter, numbers and some punctuation. These alternates are extremely easy to use with OpenType doing all of the hard work for you! Plus, you get the cross platform compatibility that OpenType provides. When the Contextual Ligatures feature of Casino Hand is utilized in your graphics application, the font substitutes a duplicate letter with the alternate glyph for that letter. This automatically makes the font look less like a font and more like real handwriting! Casino Hand also allows you to switch to use the alternate glyphs as the default by using the Stylistic Alternates feature. You can even use the two OpenType features together! This means that you can have duplicate glyph substitution with either the standard letters, or the alternates. You can also use the Glyph window in the Adobe CS applications to selectively choose characters. You can simply go into the glyph window and replace a letter that you don't like with its alternate. With Casino Hand, you essentially get two fonts in one, and a handwriting font that is much easier to use than previous designs. * Contextual Ligatures and Stylistic Alternates require Adobe CS applications. Many more software applications will be supporting these features soon!

  17. AW Conqueror Std Sans by Typofonderie, $59.00
AW Conqueror Sans was born out of this desire to fuse geometric and humanistic sans. It remains a typeface fundamentally influenced by both Bauhaus spirit — with its simplified geometric forms — and Jan Tschichold’s attempts to link this modular spirit to Eric Gill’s humanist sans serif. AW Conqueror Sans is a claimed French synthesis of Germanic Modernism and English classical tradition. Spheres of influence The core set of capitals are based on the proportions of the Roman capitals like Futura, Erbar, Nobel, Johnston, Gill Sans. During the 1930s, the Futura was a true success. Since then, Monotype offered a geometric version of the Gill Sans, and Linotype added Futura-like variants to WA Dwiggins’ Metro. AW Conqueror Sans is kind of a “fusion” of this approach. The lower case “b, d, p, q” are also directly influenced by Eric Gill’s, while the “y” is influenced by some of Jan Tschichold’s alphabets. In italics, drawn narrower, AW Conqueror Sans reinterprets Gill’s idea: a rigorous italic like a roman but which sometimes reveals some aspects of a Renaissance italic. AW Conqueror Sans and its extensions AW Conqueror Sans is the initial reference point for an extended family, including AW Conqueror Inline, Slab, Carved, Didot. The potential of these mixed families is powerful. Because AW Conqueror typefaces are based on an identical structure, and compatible proportions.

  21. Tabac Glam by Suitcase Type Foundry, $75.00
A special category of typefaces, combining together principles of both serif and sans-serif, is sometimes described as Linear-Antiqua by German typographers. This concept catches the eye wherever it appears and this is also the case of Tabac Glam — a highly contrasting display typeface, expanding the wide expressive spectrum of our Tabac super-family through a new characteristic hue. Tabac Glam is naturally a great complement to the serif Tabac. It’s however only in conjunction with other styles of the superfamily — Sans, Slab and Mono, that you’ll be able to unleash the enormous potential of the wide range of combinations, and the family’s 112 styles will certainly satisfy all needs of both elegant and technical typesetting. Tabac Glam will best stand out in huge grades, on the covers of thick magazines under glossy layers of UV coating, or on snow-white surfaces of displays.
  22. Privilege Sign Two JNL by Jeff Levine, $29.00
Unique and decorative signage for many drive-ins, motels, food stores and other businesses of the 1940s had what was referred to as “privilege signs” provided by one of the major cola brands. Consisting of the brand’s emblem on a decorative panel, the remainder of the sign would carry the desired message of the storekeeper (such as “Drive-In”) in prismatic, embossed metal letters. Inspired by the Art Deco sans serif style of those vintage signs, Privilege Sign Two JNL recreates the type design in both regular and oblique versions. The typefaces are solid black, but adding a selected color and a prismatic effect from your favorite graphics program can reproduce the look and feel of those old businesses. This is a companion font to Privilege Sign JNL, which recreates the condensed sans serif lettering of other privilege signs from the 1950s and early 1960s.

  24. Deva Ideal by DizajnDesign, $49.95
Deva Ideal was inspired by women’s beauty. It didn’t come only from the desire to create a new typeface. It also seeks to materialize beauty in a visual form. Instead of imitating the shapes of the female body or other formal attributes, Deva Ideal is an abstract expression of the women’s beauty. The unique character of the typeface is achieved by the use of soft, almost invisibly bent strokes, since one of the priorities of the typeface is not to disturb the eye of the reader with odd design details. Deva Ideal excels in her cold beauty and shows her sex appeal. The soft curves present in Deva Ideal differ from the masculine and technical shapes used in most contemporary typefaces. Deva Ideal has ideal proportions (90 / 60 / 90) and its shapes are essential and simple. Because of this, it is ideal for setting text in all kinds of printed matter: catalogues, books and magazines. The letter forms are wide and open, so text can be set in small sizes and thus space can be saved, while keeping the same degree of readability. The author wishes to acknowledge František Štorm for his invaluable opinions. Also to Palo Bálik and Peter Bilak for their contributions. I am specially grateful to all the devas (archaic expression for beautiful young girl), who inspired me to design this typeface. This is dedicated to Janka Ráczová, Jarka Krajčiová, Mariana Felgueiras and obviously to Martinka Filípková! Every use of Deva Ideal is a little homage to these interesting women.

  26. Spleeny by Galapagos, $39.00
A gentle breeze on a warm summer's day. A cozy gathering of friends and family around a crackling fire. The sweet aroma of freshly baked cinnamon bread. A slow walk in the autumn woods, light sparkling down through the multi-colored leaves. Billowing white clouds against a stark azur sky, leisurely floating past the tops of palm trees. What do these idyllic scenes all have in common? A: Most people can never find the time to enjoy any of them. B: These are just some of the things you would never try to describe using a crankish font like Spleeny Decaf GD. Just as ITC Fontoon was designed to be used with the many critters that populate the "Toonie" series of fonts, Spleeny Decaf GD was created by Steve Zafarana for use in the balloned dialogue portions of a new panel cartoon feature currently under development. Spleeny Decaf GD is the first completed font in a family that ranges from the jittery san serif Spleeny Espresso GD to the sedate and serifed Spleeny Asleep GD. Each font in the series appears a little more relaxed and staid than its predecessor. None of them however, will find themselves being used for the text of any legal documents. Spleeny Decaf GD is the perfect font to use when the weight of the message is leaning towards the light and jocular side of things. So remember, if your documents are starting to put you on edge, it may be time to switch to decaf. Spleeny Decaf GD that is.

Snare is a jazzy little display type that presents like a stencil but behaves in its own way.Featuring angled section breaks and variable heights, Snare keeps each character’s footprint steady as as its heights change, revealing unique crossbars, periscoping capitals and deep-sinking descenders. Because each character follows its own rules, the more each word grows, the more it shows the beautiful rhythm of variety. Or stretch individual characters to shape the contours of your words. Beyond just being playful, fun to dress in colors, and delightfully useful for tight spaces,Snare’s lanky verticals and nervous energy reflect the time it was created. In this second pandemic spring, Snare brings up the drumroll-expectant heartbeat of our uncertainty, and the wish that when we can all meet again, our newfound weirdnesses will find a home in the world. The Snare font family includes one uppercase alphabet with two lowercase variants and comes in ten standard weights-which-are-just-really-heights (.otf) and as a variable type(.ttf) for designers using compatible platforms. Snare was designed by Alexander Wright and In-House International and developed byRodrigo Fuenzalida at FragType. In-House International’s foundry was launched in the summer of 2020 to offer bold, experimental, display typefaces that tell a story. Our previous releases have been featured on Design Milk, DesignBoom, Slanted and all sorts of exciting places.
  28. Bartholeme by Galapagos, $39.00
The four weight semi-condensed Bartholemé family came into existence as a family expansion based on the designer's earlier concept, Bartholemé Open. This hybrid family was inspired by and loosely based on a number of contemporary mid-twentieth century type concepts having Old Face or Modern influence. Those inspirational type designs were primarily designed for various proprietary photolettering technologies of the time. The award-winning* Bartholemé Open and its companion design Bartholemé small capital open were inspired by various Shaded, Inline and Handtooled type models from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Most of those inspirational type designs were designed as titling fonts with all capital sets only. To set it apart from the earlier models, Bartholemé Open is semi-condensed intentionally designed with a lowercase. Design qualities include a large x- height, tightly curved ample counters, crisp serifs and tight bracketing. The overall plan of the family was originally intended for display usage in titling and short passages of text. At higher output resolutions all fonts read well at smaller point sizes. The Bartholemé family works well on its own, but also is compatible with type styles possessing qualities that complement or enhance its own. The Bartholemé family consists of a Regular weight complementing a Bold weight, along with Medium complementing an Extra Bold weight. The companion true-drawn italics are based on the Bartholemé roman design. * Award for Design Excellence bukva: raz! Type Design Competition of the Association Typographique Internationale, 2001
  29. Montage by House Industries, $33.00
Montage has played a weighty role in some of the most influential and enduring typography of the past few decades, from book jackets and album covers, to posters and logos…you name it. Exhibiting an uncommon ability to wield immense power while demonstrating extraordinary finesse, Montage’s commanding profile packs a hefty punch which is softened only by its lithe yet durable serifs. Originally designed for Photo-Lettering in the mid-1960s by type legend, Ed Benguiat, the fonts were given a jump start by Jess Collins before ultimately being shaped into five compatible widths by longtime House co-conspirator, Mitja Miklavčič. Under the guidance of Ben Kiel, along with some additional chin-stroking by Ken Barber, Montage has been fully developed into a robust family ready to tackle any challenge you can throw at it. FEATURES LIGATURES: In order to ensure that Montage maintains its bold presence in tricky text settings, we’ve added a handy set of pre-drawn letter combinations. 32. Nimbus Sans by URW Type Foundry, $35.00
The first versions of Nimbus Sans have been designed and digitized in the 1980s for the URW SIGNUS sign-making system. Highest precision of all characters (1/100 mm accuracy) as well as spacing and kerning were required because the fonts should be cut in any size in vinyl or other material used for sign-making. During this period three size ranges were created for text (T), the display (D) and poster (P) for small, medium and very large font sizes. In addition, we produced a so-called L-version that was compatible to Adobe’s PostScript version of Helvetica. Nimbus was also the product name of a URW-proprietary renderer for high quality and fast rasterization of outline fonts, a software provided to the developers of PostScript clone RIPs (Hyphen, Harlequin, etc.) back then. Also in the 80s, a new, improved version of the Nimbus Sans, namely Nimbus Sans Novus was designed. Nimbus Sans Novus was conceptually developed entirely with URW’s IKARUS system, i.e. all styles harmonize perfectly with each other in terms of line width, weight, proportions, etc. On top of that, Nimbus Sans Novus contains more styles than Nimbus Sans. Now, Nimbus Sans is also available as Round (like the popular URW fonts Futura Round and Eurostile Round). The Round versions are intended to facilitate the work of designers and typographers. The fonts can be used directly, without further preparatory work in graphic programs as finished, high-quality Rounds.

  36. Schnorr by HiH, $10.00
Schnorr is a family of three fonts drawn by a German designer, Peter Schnorr. Schnorr Dekorativ is one of the less frequently seen of the alphabets he designed and one of the few for which he designed as lower case. Like many of the alphabets of the period, Schnorr Dekorativ is a delicate design. To provide a little more presence, we have added a DEMIBOLD version. Included in both Schnorr Dekorativ and Schnorr Demibold are an ornament of Schnorr’s design, seven T-ligatures and an alternate lower case t. 123=Ta, 125=Te, 135=Th, 137=Ornament, 167=Ti, 172=To, 188=Tr, 190=Tu and 177=alternate t. Schnorr’s design for the lower case t is unusual and not readily recognized. The alternate may be used to improve readability. Schnorr Initialen was designed as an upper case only design and as such is quite popular. It is often seen under the name of Odessa. Our font is a fresh scan and is paired with our Schnorr Demibold to provide a compatible lower case, along with all the rest of the auxiliary characters. Schnorr Initialen includes all the extras supplied with Schnorr Dekorativ and Schnorr Demibold: 123=Ta, 125=Te, 135=Th, 137=Ornament, 167=Ti, 172=To, 188=Tr, 190=Tu and 177=alternate t. In addition, Schnorr Initialen also includes an alternate uppercase I (172) and five lotus ornaments (123, 125, 167, 188 and 190).
  37. Soho by Monotype, $29.99

This grand opus of a project resulted in a typeface that comprises nine weights and five widths of precision engineered OpenType. 40 fonts, 32,668 characters and 24 OpenType features. Hot on the heels of the popular Neo Sans and Neo Tech range, and his first typeface release Scene, Soho represents three years of work by Lester. As a type designer I'm preoccupied with finding ways in which I can address modern problems like good legibility in modern media, and create fonts that work precisely and efficiently in the most technically demanding of corporate and publishing environments." Slab serif typefaces are enjoying something of a renaissance, offering versatility whether for corporate identity, product branding, text or display use. With 40 weights to choose from Soho gives designers endless possibilities from the ultra chic lines conveyed by the lighter weights to the rock solid statement made by the heavier weights. Soho is cross-platform compatible. The Pro version provides extended language support for Central European languages. Used in conjunction with software applications that support OpenType many useful features like "stylistic sets" can be leveraged -- in which a wide variety of alternative characters can be introduced at the click of a mouse button giving one font several "tones of voice" from conservative to cutting edge. The wide range of glyphs includes ligatures and small caps."
  38. Planetype by CozyFonts, $20.00
The Planetype Font Family is Modern. It has 6 Font Styles: X-Light, Light, Medium, Inline, Bold, & X-Bold. Each style has a consistent weight with a square serif of equal weight to its vertical and horizontal strokes. Planetype™ for short or Planet-Type font styles all have extremely clean edges and are sharply defined. There is a standard kerning applied, however evenly letter-spacing these family members give a distinct personality and continues to command the negative space just as in tight kerned examples. The compatible relationship of these font family members, weight to weight, and X-Light to X-Bold is seamless and the overall design coloring of words and sentences is well balanced and extremely legible. The Planetype Family fonts are matching members glyph to glyph. This family works in modern, contemporary and vintage settings. The Planetype Medium matches the outer weight of Planetype Inline. Their are several unique Glyphs that set the character of this family, such as: Caps B, M, Q, R, X and Lower Case a, e, k, r, z to begin with. The numerals and dingbats also have several unique glyphs that flow with the family Style in every matching weight. These characteristics lend well in designing logos, brands, and even monograms. Starting with Planetype X-Light the designer has a command of the clean lines yet expressing Modernism and a touch of Architectural structure. Planetype Medium & Planetype Inline are a dynamic duo giving a positive/negative readability.
  39. Bennet Display by Lipton Letter Design, $29.00
Bennet, Richard Lipton’s spirited serif superfamily, was inspired by Moth Design’s logotype and stationery system for the North Bennet Street School in Boston. Initially modest in concept, Bennet grew to an expansive suite of 96 fonts tuned for editorial use. The three widths of Bennet’s Display and Banner sizes—Regular, Condensed, and Extra Condensed—are ideal for precise fitting of newspaper and magazine headlines. Lipton developed graded text styles for the series, offering users precise variations to help compensate for varying degrees of ink spread on different types of paper stock during the printing process. For example, because of ink absorption, the lightest grade—Bennet Text One—printed on low-quality newsprint stock will have the same gray value as the darkest grade—Bennet Text Four—on superior coated paper. (Bennet Text Two is the default grade and offered here.) Bennet also provides for a stellar reading experience in digital media, its carefully considered details vibrant yet legible on-screen.
