The Threepoints Series is the result of several years of work that bases three different sans serif type designs on one “shell”. Designed for optimal readability North, with its squarish shapes and rigidity are suggestive of an upright Swiss or Inserat typeface. Martin Wilke’s underrated yet influential deco classic from 1932 has both feet firmly planted in the high traditions of Western European calligraphy while carefully and subtly introducing some traits from the sweeping geometric/minimalist vision of the time. In a way, it was one of the representatives of the European anti-type typefaces of that era, when print media was searching for the elusive aesthetic balance between humanism and geometry. This typeface enjoyed some popularity in Germany for a few years, and went on to influence further type designs in Holland and Italy. After the second World War, the black hole that swallowed a big chunk of Europe’s print culture, new influences and technologies overtook the scene, and selective historical emphasis ensued, highlighting some of the era’s designs and overlooking others. Further selective picking in the digital era all but buried Wilke’s body of work - unfairly so, because he was just as important in German type history as Bernhard, Post, Schneidler, Tiemann and Trump. The original metal Wilke Kursiv came in one weight. This digital version goes a long way in expanding on that original offering. Now Wilke’s masterpiece comes in three weights, and with a full Pro treatment including swash caps, small capitals, five types of figures, automatic fractions, and plenty of other OpenType niceties. Each of the Wilke Kursiv Pro fonts comes with over 700 characters, and contains support for most Latin-based languages. Also available are three non-Pro fonts in each weight.

Whether with pen on paper, or in digital, realistically connecting vertical handwriting is never an easy task to accomplish. After working with many handwriting fonts, and after intently dissecting so many different handwritings, one tends to expect such things to be quirky, disconnected, and almost never upright. In fact, in spite of vertical handwriting’s academically-sung virtues of rationality, efficiency, clarity and logic, very few people manage to deviate from the natural slant when writing. Even fewer manage to make the vertical handwriting connect and keep its natural flow. Calligraphy and upright cursive aside, it is almost impossible to make a vertical letters connect and maintain a real handwriting appearance. This is where the genius of this design comes in to bridge the gap between upright handwriting and calligraphy. Sincerely is based on one of the most fascinating handwriting designs to ever come out of Germany: Karlgeorg Hoefer’s 1968 Elegance for the Ludwig & Mayer foundry. It is a handwriting with the full meaning of the word, yet it possesses the rare, very commanding and appealing trait of being both vertical and connected while managing to remain realistic. It is the ultimate branding iron of handwriting fonts. When set and printed, Sincerely simply cannot be ignored. Jim Rimmer’s first typeface was originally published in 1970 as a basic film type alphabet through a small, independent type house in central California. Its sources of influence (now calligraphic type standards by Dair, Goudy and Zapf) are ones that remained with Jim for the rest of his career. If you squint at Totemic in just the right way, you can see some recognizable themes Jim would later flesh out and make his own in later works throughout his career as a type designer and printer. Totemic is now available for the first time as a digital font, of the refined and expanded kind now expected from Canada Type. Confitería is the Spanish word for a shop where sweets and chocolates are made and sold, which sometimes has a tea room. And now Confitería is also a font that brings to mind lettering piped on delicate cakes ... sweet but never sickly. This font captures something of that simple and innocent beauty of traditional confiterías, where good manners will never go out of fashion, menus are elegant and time comes to a standstill to make way for life’s little pleasures. A confitería is a perfect place to share sweet tidbits with a friend or date, eavesdrop on the conversation at the next table, read a book, or just people-watch from the window. I celebrated my last birthday at one. There is one iconic confitería in Buenos Aires that I love more than the rest because, some 60 years ago, it put up its marvellous sign and never took it down. Walking by it is sure to bring a smile to your face. It’s big. Very big. And the lettering in its name is written in a timelessly beautiful vertical script – the most attractive I have ever seen. I joined forces with Sol Matas – who worked with me to update the Montserrat font –to design this geometrical connected font with pleasant, even strokes. It is elegant and saccharine-free. Dr. Gerard Unger expands the concept of Sanserata to a sans type family with Sanserata, adding specific characteristics which improve reading. Sanserata’s originality does not overtly present itself at text sizes. Rather, at those sizes, it draws upon its enormous x-height, short extenders, and articulated terminals to improve readability, especially on screens. Having articulated terminals means characters flare as they near their end, but readers likely won’t notice. What they would notice is that their ability to take in more content in a line of text is improved because the lettershapes are more defined. Articulation also makes clearer text from digital sources, where rectangular endings tend to get rounded by the emission of light from the screen. Lately there seems a whispered discontent with the lack of progress in the sans serif category. Designs can either stretch too far beyond what is accepted or be too bland to be considered new. Sanserata’s strength is in being vivid and unique without being off-putting. This bodes well for designers of paragraphs and of branding schemes since, with Sanserata’s two flavors, it is well able to capture attention or simply set the tone. Sanserata’s first voice is a generous, friendly, and even cheerful sans serif. But when using the alternate letterforms its voice becomes more businesslike, though still with nice curves, generous proportions, and a pleasant character. Hi there, thanks for looking at my first typeface. It began as one of my original sketches back in 2019 as a freelance graphic designer trying to create unique letterforms that I could use for posters or websites with other possible use cases in mind for commercial use. The sketches were then passed on to and worked on with Vladimir Tsagolov who has more experience in creating professional typefaces, the experience for me was invaluable, and I have many more typefaces I'm now working on. Shiny Ink Display is a collection of hand drawn fonts based on the flow of reflective viscous ink with 7 styles, some styles can be interchangeable and used on top of each other. For example, Shiny Ink Display Plain, can be used with Shiny Ink Display Plain Lined to create shadows underneath it, at angles not available with the Shadow styles you'll see in the font collection. Shiny Ink Display has various use cases, maybe even infinite, but more specifically for posters or websites with large text, though it bodes quite well at smaller sizes, and is visually appealing to its viewers as long as it's at a legible font size. When it comes to font pairing, Shiny Ink Display works especially well with Monospace and sans-serif fonts. You can check the poster examples on this page to help you imagine what you could do with the font styles. I also had in mind manufactured products, but I could leave that to you to create your ideas with the available font styles. In regards to languages or typing on a keyboard, most of the English/European latin or cyrillic language keys are supported, so you'll have lots of glyph characters to play with for a number of ideas you may have. Morris Fuller Benton designed the serifed Clearface typeface for ATF in 1907. He liked the design so much that he also created a flare-serif variation, Clearface Gothic, soon after. It is a great typeface for headlines. SoftMaker created an updated version, Cleargothic Pro, in 2012. Two years ago I went on a camping holiday in England with my wife and (then two) small children. The first stop was a nature campsite near the village of Bodiam in East Sussex. My son wanted to see a real castle, so I figured Bodiam Castle was the 'realest' of them all! He loved it, as the castle had a moat, crenellated walls, a bunch of towers and a guy dressed up as a knight. Bodiam font is a rough didone-ish affair.
