More Printing Helpers JNL gathers another assortment of vintage printing embellishments and ornaments from the late 1800s. Within the standard twenty-six alphabet keys are pointing hands, corner pieces, border elements and decorative center and end pieces. On the lower case, certain elements have been flipped or inverted for matching effects. Some additional positions are available on the 1 through 9 keys and on the colon and semicolon. A bonus to this font: three expandable panels. the first (with decorative end caps) is attained by typing the left parenthesis for the left side, the hyphen for the center lines and the right parenthesis for the right side. The second one features ribbon ends, and the combination of the less than-equal-greater than keys creates this panel. The third design can be made by typing the left brace/vertical bar/right brace keys.

This family was inspired by the sets of fonts used in 1543 by Michael Isengrin, printer in Basel (Germany) to print the splendid New Kreüterbuch...(New herbal...), with numerous nice pictures, the masterpiece of Leonhart Fuchs, father of the modern botany. It is a Schwabacher pattern, with three different sets of fonts, small (± 4mm for the upper case) in the main text, larger for titles (± 8mm for the upper case) and large Initials or lettrines (five lines of main text). This font contains standard ligatures and German historical ligatures (German double s, long s, tz, ch,...) and diacritics (special umlaut "e superscript" and "∞" unstead of dieresis with letters a, o and u,) naturally, we have added numerous letters lacking in the original to permit a contemporary use of the font. It can be used in complement with 1538 Schwabacher or/and 1534 Fraktur.

Designed by expert ad artist Herbert Thannhaeuser for East German foundry Typoart in 1955, Lotto was until now one of the long lost gems of European sign and brush lettering faces. Unlike in Kurier (Thannhaeuser’s other brush face digitized by Canada Type as Puma), the forms’ brush construct uses a series of strokes that are mostly sudden, whimsical, and at times even look like great genius being born out of simple afterthought or straight-forward idiosyncracy. John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States, didn't hit his stride until he'd left that lofty office. It was during his many years in Congress that he assured his legacy, not least because of his long, masterful oratory opposing slavery. His speeches, in fact, won him the nickname "Old Man Eloquent." So when I decided to simulate Adams's penmanship in his legendary diary (which he kept for nearly 70 years), it seemed fitting to call the font by that name. I focused on his handwriting from about 1810, when he was Ambassador to Russia, but also consulted pages from later years. Old Man Eloquent has both regular and bold weights. The OpenType version has more than 450 glyphs, including alternate uppercase characters, old-style and lining figures, and numerous ligatures; all formats contain several common (English) words.

The famous Irish poet and novelist Jonathan Swift (Dublin 1667-1745) has a large personal library of which he noticed carefully the book list by himself. We have used a facsimile from this catalogue to reconstruct this present font, as one example of the poet’s personal hands but also as a typical example of the British quill pen handwriting from about mid 1600’s to the beginning of 1700’s . It is a “Pro” font containing Western (including Celtic) and Northern European, Icelandic, Baltic, Eastern, Central European and Turquish diacritics. The numerous alternates and ligatures allow to made the font looking as closely as possible to the real hand. Using an OTF software, the features allow to vary automatically almost each character of a word without anything to do but to select contextual alternates and standard ligatures and/or stylistic alternates options.

The Scriptorium got its start in the early days of personal computers with a few font designs for the Commodore 64, and the very first font which we did back then in the early 1980s was a gothic calligraphy font. That style of fonts - the medieval, gothic and black letter genre - has always been the backbone of our collection, but with recent releases we've stayed away from them to introduce a bit more variety. Well, with our new Zauberer font the antique, medieval and gothic look is back with a vengeance. Zauberer isn't a true medieval calligraphy style. It's based on early printed type from Germany which combines calligraphic elements with decorative embellishments from the woodcut printing era. The result is decorative and antique looking and rather appealing. The name comes from the German word for a magician or illusionist.

The successful Gill Sans® was designed by the English artist and type designer Eric Gill and issued by Monotype in 1928 to 1930. The roots of Gill Sans can be traced to the typeface that Gill's teacher, Edward Johnston, designed for the signage of the London Underground Railway in 1918. Gill´s alphabet is more classical in proportion and contains what have become known as his signature flared capital R and eyeglass lowercase g. Gill Sans is a humanist sans serif with some geometric touches in its structures. It also has a distinctly British feel. Akira Kobayashi's ITC Seven Treasures is a symbol font for use in patterns and textures. The interlocking patterns, usually circular or oval, are taken primarily from motifs used in Japanese textiles. Most of these designs are known as komon, or tiny patterns," and they are often applied to kimono and other textiles, although their use is not limited to fabrics. They also appear carved in wood in traditional architecture, and painted in pictures as background patterns. I started Rainmaker Script by hand sketching a huge amount of letters to find the right tone. After having enough I picked the characters that I liked and begun composing a font out of them. With this method I ended up with the Rainmaker Script - an elegant signature style connected script with natural variation in the rhythm. Rainmaker Script is great for branding, headlines and packaging. It’s equipped with (automatic) Contextual Alternates that keep the flow natural and variable. There’s also Swash, Stylistic and Titling Alternates, and even more alternates can be found for some characters from the Glyph Palette. From the Glyph Palette you’ll also find a handful of ending swooshes and ornamental strokes that can be combined with the font. Hutton is a sans-serif typeface with flattened overshoots, such as shoulders, arms, and bowls. There are seven weights, from light to bold, with matching oblique italics. Waite Park JNL is based on the smallest of the die-cut letters and numbers contained in the Webway Sign Cabinet - once manufactured by the Holes-Webway Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The largest of the set's sizes (2 inch) was the model for Sign Kit JNL, the medium size (1-1/8 inch) was used to make Sign Production JNL and this font is a version from the 3/4 inch size. Each size of alphabet and numerals have their own unique characteristics, although they all follow the same basic font style, which is reminiscent of classic Art Deco-era sanserif typefaces. The name Waite Park JNL was derived from a division of Holes-Webway that (for some reason lost to time) distributed their sign kits under the name Waite Park Sign Company, located in the Minnesota city of the same name.

The 1990s was a time of creativity, experimentation and exploration into the world of digital typography by amateur and professional alike. Ray Larabie [through his Larabie Fonts] offered dozens upon dozens of wide-ranging (and often most unusual) freeware fonts. Ray was the driving force of encouragement and a behind-the-scenes “mentor” who helped Jeff Levine Fonts get underway in January of 2006. As his focus changed to high-quality commercial type with the launch of Typodermic, Inc., many of Ray’s “less than perfect” font experiments were withdrawn. He eventually turned those typefaces into a bundled zip archive released into the public domain through Creative Commons. “Webster World” resembles a fusion of Techno and Western styles. With Ray's permission, the original characters have been cleaned up and re-made as Space Traveler JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
