Filistique is gracious, flexible, and stylish. In the first sketches of this typeface, the one-line drawing principle was the rule. This principal had to perish soon when more complex characters came up. But still the one-line rule was kept in tradition to maintain the behavior of the natural course of the drawing line. Once writing, the characters joined fluidly into words and slipped easily into sentences like they had always belonged there. They have these natural features maybe somewhat familiar on the first sight. Filistique approaches handwriting but likes to be straight up as well. Ondine is one of the early typefaces of Adrian Frutiger. It looks as though it were written with a broad tipped pen, however, Frutiger actually cut the forms out of a piece of paper with scissors. The forms of Ondine are reminiscent of the humanist period, the high point of the Italian Renaissance text typefaces of the 15th century. This movement was centered in Florence, the base of the Humanist movement overall, and the home of a famous type school of the time. The main goal of the educated writers was to faithfully recreate the writing of the admired literary works, whose aesthetic was as important as their content. Ondine displays a regular and open character. Texts set in this typeface give the impression of being hundreds of years old. Ondine should be used in point sizes of 12 and larger and is best for short texts and headlines.

Chapman is the result of spending too many hours staring at the often all-capital engraver typefaces from long-gone foundries. The wide serifs, high contrast, and various widths seem to have so much character but also remain so neutral. From these references, Chapman began to emerge. It seemed natural that the lowercase would be based on a Scotch Roman model, much like the original all-capital faces. Chapman does not pull directly from any one source but from the genres themselves. It was, from the beginning, the goal to create a typeface that would be relatively neutral but not boring; an adaptable solution that works anywhere and, depending on the chosen width, can be squeezed or stretched to fit anywhere. The idiosyncrasies of the original designs are tamed in some places and turned up in others. The result is something familiar but unique and contemporary.

When I released Halogen, I asked ‘Who doesn't want or need an expansive contemporary extended sans that has a sense of style and swagger… what if it had a lowercase, small caps and various numeral options… how could you say no?’ Go, click on the Halogen link and read on, if you're interested. Halogen was well-received, so I decided to take it further with Halogen Flare (the name kinda tips you off as to what kind of typeface it is, don't ya think?). Unique and decorative signage for many drive-ins, motels, food stores and other businesses of the 1940s had what was referred to as “privilege signs” provided by one of the major cola brands. Consisting of the brand’s emblem on a decorative panel, the remainder of the sign would carry the desired message of the storekeeper (such as “Drive-In”) in prismatic, embossed metal letters. Inspired by the Art Deco sans serif style of those vintage signs, Privilege Sign Two JNL recreates the type design in both regular and oblique versions. The typefaces are solid black, but adding a selected color and a prismatic effect from your favorite graphics program can reproduce the look and feel of those old businesses. From the same page of a vintage German lettering textbook entitled “50 Alphabete fur Technikur und Fachschulen” (loosely translated to “50 Alphabets for Technicians and Specialized Schools”) that inspired Trippy Hippy JNL comes Eleckatrical Banana JNL. It’s another novelty, free form Art Nouveau hand lettered alphabet that works well in recreating 1920s period pieces or for designing a retro-inspired rock and roll concert poster reminiscent of the 1960s. The name of the typeface is from a line in the 1966 pop hit “Mellow Yellow by Donovan (Leitch), and his extended pronunciation of ‘electrical’: “…E-lec-a-tric-cal’ banana is going to be the very next craze…” Caps only Fonts. When ITC Officina was first released in 1990, as a paired family of serif and sans serif faces in two weights with italics, it was intended as a workhorse typeface for business correspondence. But the typeface proved popular in many more areas than correspondence. Erik Spiekermann, ITC Officina's designer: Once ITC Officina got picked up by the trendsetters to denote 'coolness,' it had lost its innocence. No pretending anymore that it only needed two weights for office correspondence. As a face used in magazines and advertising, it needed proper headline weights and one more weight in between the original Book and Bold."" Imperio is a font inspired by old posters, especially those related to constructivism and futurism. It reflects both the rationalism of Bauhaus as a propagandist and revolutionary spirit of an era. On the other hand it is not nostalgic, but instead looks for its own way to get diagonals where there was rigidity. The poster itself is the language of graphic design, and geometry is its ally. This font aims for that goal. It has two variants that derive from its source. Imperio Giga Black attempts to be a negative typography, starting with the black and then searching for small windows in which they begin to uncover the morph. This is an extreme and modern font. Imperio West is a metamorphosis of the original one, with decorative details which transform it into a typeface of wood and saloon font. The Wild West meets Russia and India in this heavy duty display face. Although it's uppercase only, most of the characters vary between the uppercase and lowercase alphabets, so it's easy to give your text a hand-made feel by mixing up your cases. OpenType savvy applications can really exploit the extra features of this font. Engage contextual alternates, and G, C, L and alternate form of E will change when placed before a letter with a crossbar to create some cool effects (see the CK and LE combinations in the poster). There are standard ligatures for ff and FF combinations, and discretionary ligatures for 'and', 'the', 'No', 'Mc' and 'Co'. Milescut is a display typeface inspired by some seminal covers the graphic designer and photographer Reid Miles created for the Blue Note Records between the 1950s and 1960s. Miles made almost 500 covers for Blue Note in this period, including some using the hand-cut technique that consists basically in doing vertical cuts in capital letters and numerals to create a unique style within the universe he created for Blue Note. Milescut is a tribute to this small “cut” 😬 in his trajectory within the greatest record label of all time. This idea came about while I was working on what will become soon a revival of a wood type that I fell in love with when flipping through a Specimen of the MACHINE CUT WOOD TYPE manufactured by The WM. H. Page Wood Type Co. Milescut has two extra sets of alternates that work cyclically when activated in your OpenType menu and lots of ligatures, pretty cool :)
