Eterea is a formal font inspired in the monumental inscriptions of classic Rome, but not strictly sticking to the ancient roman typographic characteristics. Its unique look is the result of mixing diverse typographic styles, but mostly having traces from the 16th century transitional style. It bears a big difference of proportion between upper and lower case, additionally to the upper case having much more ornamental traces. Eterea has four different flavors of capitals which change very slightly in the cursive versions. In the italic versions, the lower case (actually small capitals) changes substantially its characters to make its reading more flowing and is not simply an inclined version of the letters. Eterea is a very expressive font, ideal for titles and short texts of sober and elegant appearance.

While browsing through a sourcebook on historic calligraphy and antique type I came on an interesting sample of a gothic style attributed to the legendary artist Albrecht Durer. I had previously seen fonts based on the peculiar style of lettering Durer used on prints for his signature and some captions, but this style was radically different and much more characteristic of the lettering and early printed types of the 'Northern Renaissance' which Durer was a big part of. Whether it's authentically Durer's work or not is up in the air, but it's a very nice example of early gothic type. We've called the resulting font Albrecht Durer Gothic and it's a very striking face well suited to titles and other contemporary uses where you need something heavy and eye catching.

In 2006 the art director of Emotion, a women’s psychology magazine, asked me to design a copy typeface for them. Before I actually got the job I started to work on a serif. I wanted it to be feminine but still clear and modern. On one hand there are the floral round elements and on the other hand the angular serifs. In the composition I wanted the two extremes to work together. All the other elements had to be harmonized. The proportions needed to match the magazine’s requirements. The ascenders and descenders are short enough to work in narrow columns but long enough to work in small sizes. As you can imagine, the emotion-job never happened. In copy you should not get heavier than Heavy. Extrabold and Ultrabold work best in display.

Epilepsja is an all-caps type family perfect for display works. It has been derived from stencil-sprayed and painted letters in the city space. The glyphs are simple but unordinary. Every letter has something from 3D illusion, but is flat simultaneously. The main feature and asset of this family is the ability to create multicolor text. Epilepsja consists of three styles: Outline, Solid and Fill. Outline is the base from which the other two styles are created. When you mix Solid with Fill, you can create two-color Outline style. Solid is neat and legible in small sizes. There are alternative uppercase/lowercase characters, digits, diacritics of western, central and southeastern Europe and Africa, punctuation and symbols including currency. Use it for posters, headlines, magazines, websites or anything you like.

Do you remember a typeface called Meccanica? I didn’t think so. Well, it was pretty unique – too unique for most people’s tastes it seems. Anyway, this is Technica, Meccanica’s more conservative little brother. Essentially, this typeface is a geometric sans that retains the structure of Meccanica, but tones down most of the hexagonal elements. The chamfered terminals are retained, but sharpened, and a more technical approach is instilled with each glyph being fine-tuned for optimal performance and aesthetics. Base & Bloom is an experimental (but relatively organic) fusion of geometric monoline sans and high-contrast flourish didone. It was inspired by the lack of curious modern display sans as opposed to the uprise of contemporary serifs past couple of years. The idea was to incorporate flourishes not as unnecessary elements like swashes, but as a part of letter structure, which was an especially interesting task considering it was not a serif, which potentially could give more room for that. And after all, the idea pays off by generating many inventive letterform solutions. Base & Bloom has alternates for each letter (up to 11) so you can make endless combinations to find the perfect look. It is a bold choice for posters, album covers, identity and packaging, headlines, oversize typography, and editorial design.

Devin is designed mainly for the benefit of the advertising industry, and it surely is a nice typeface for headings, isn't it? And you should see what a nice body type it makes! I had no other typeface in mind when working with it, but I can now find several typefaces it is related to. It reminds of the egyptienne group, but I did't really plan that. The name Devin is taken from my birth region. There is a castle with that name on the northern Adriatic coast (known even from Rilke's Duino elegies - Duino is another name of the same castle). A castle ruin called Devin, too, can be found on a height above the Danube in Slovakia, not far away from its capital Bratislava. Devin was released in 1994.

Louisa is a monospaced font-family designed and optimized specifically for small font sizes. But even as headline font it looks good. It has a very good distinguishability of letter forms and legibility even in longer text paragraphs. The character of Louisa is a combination of strong elements and warm, friendly forms. The font family is not only designed for coding and tabular layout, but can be used in different fields of communication design. Therefore it provides two stylistic sets with different letter forms: one with the look of serious modern typewriter font, the second with more soft letter forms and elements of a real italic. Additionally it consists oldstyle numbers (and of course tabular numbers) and a set arrows. The font is available in four styles: regular, italic, bold and bold italic.

Yink takes big, bulbous, ball terminals up a notch, by repeating the shapes not only in the black but in the white space too. This interplay between black and white shapes is reminiscent of the yinyang symbol in places, which is where the name Yink originates. It's a shamelessly over-the-top font, and should be set large. There's a handful of OpenType features, including ligatures and alternates: Ligatures for ff, fft, ft, tt, gj Alternates are grouped into stylistic sets: 1. An alternate u, possibly more legible, but definitely not as much fun! 2. Again, a more boring version of m, just in case the default is ambiguous. 3. A more exuberant L 4. A blackletter informed T 5. Alternate P and R 6. An alternate 1 (one)

Sancoale is a new sans serif that is simple and geometric. It is a contemporary design that is distinctive and unique, but not too far outside the box. This makes for a typeface family that is very useful for many applications. The design is simplified without stems or spurs in the default character set. The OpenType alternates do include alternates with stems, and there are six weights with true italics. Please see the informative .pdf brochure to see these features in action. OpenType capable applications such as Quark or the Adobe suite can take full advantage of the automatically replacing ligatures and alternates. This family also includes the glyphs to support a wide range of languages. Sancoale is a great choice for a professional designer that wants to achieve a simple but still unique look.

P22 Kelly is a Celtic-styled uncial font with a medieval gothic flavor and an overall contemporary feel. The font is an addition to Ted Staunton’s collection of historical and period-based fonts. It is ideal for uses that need to evoke the Celtic spirit or the medieval period. Based on half-uncial Irish monastic handwriting of the 8th to 10th centuries, but instead of having a traditional upright stress, has an italic slant. Some Gothic influence is evident—like the thorn-like tick-marks decorating the capitals—but the rounded forms of h, m, n, u emphasize a wide, open, horizontal visual texture. The font is named in honor of the Book of Kells, the 8th-century masterpiece of Celtic calligraphic art, which is kept in Trinity College, Dublin.

This typeface family was inspired by a set of fonts, designed in the Garamond style, used for an edition of Remarques critiques sur les œuvres d’Horace by “D.A.E.P.”, published in Paris in 1689 by two different booksellers: Deny Thierry and Claude Barbin. We can see some differences in comparison with our “pure” Garamond (see our 1592 GLC Garamond), particularly in the lowercase of the Normal style and the uppercase of the Italic. Unfortunately, we know neither the name of the punchcutter, nor that of the printer. This complete font set contains small caps, fractions all the way up to 1999/1999, historical and standard ligatures, and all of the fleurons contained in the edition (Normal style only). The alphabet covers all Western, Eastern and Central European languages (including Celtic diacritics) and Turkish.

The origin of this font was a frieze in the RAF Chapel in Westminster Abbey which Michael Harvey was commissioned to design and create. It was comprised of the names of the top brass in wartime Bomber Command, namely Dowding, Harris, Newall, Tedder, Portal and Douglas. The Brief was to cut the letters in bronze and gild them. Instead, they were cut in perspex and gilded. To sit comfortably within the long and narrow vertical space available beneath the chapel’s stained glass window, extended letterforms were used with many vertical serifs omitted and with lengthened horizontal serifs. Some twenty years later, the missing upper-case letters were drawn together with the lowercase letters and Frieze, the font, was born. Subsequently, additional weights and styles were added to create a font family of six styles.

The first Grippo sketches were done in the 1980s, but only now does it see the light of day as a complete series of interchangeable, layerable fonts. The original single-font concept was simple enough: Double the stems so they become sturdy handles. But then we elected to add more playfulness and versatility to the idea. By separating the main idea’s layers and producing them as individual fonts, layerability is achieved, and endless possibilities of play and variation arise. In 2D or 3D, colourful or demure, in titling or as initials, Grippo is a great eye-catcher that emphasizes the big fun aspect of your design. During the Covid pandemic, I noticed that a lot of public figures (politicians, actors, influencers and even kings and princesses) had to apologise for not following the social distance rules, the lockdown rules or the 'stay at home' rules. They threw parties, went on holidays abroad and - in general - made a nuisance of themselves. When I finished this font, I decided to call it Public Figure! Public Figure is quite a neat, handmade font. It doesn't stick to the rules (but does like to keep up appearances), likes to party (but manages to stay safe) and brightens up your work (without being too gaudy). Public Figure comes with two alternate sets for the lower case glyphs (that cycle as you type) and a massive amount of diacritics, including Vietnamese.

Australian designer and art director Wayne Thompson has loved typography “ever since I received a battered second-hand Letraset catalog at the age of 10.” He based ITC Django on the handwriting of an acquaintance -- “a fellow I know who writes and illustrates children's books and is also a commercial artist” -- who called himself Django, after the jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. “I felt that that name Django suited the funky, lively feel of the face,” says Thompson. But he adds, “Django has a split personality: it appears loose and easy at first, but after looking at it for some time I felt an edginess come through that was slightly psychotic.” The looseness of the lowercase contrasts with the spikiness of the capitals. The “edginess” is especially apparent in words in all caps.

Not to demonstrate the fragile romantic profile of a cursed poet, as Baudelaire was seen 130 years ago, but to express the real pain. A true, unattractive, egoistic, suicidal passion.

Kris Holmes and Charles Bigelow designed Lucida Console in 1993 for on-screen console and terminal emulation windows that needed monospaced fonts with sturdy letter shapes. Lucida Console has simple, clear, robust letterforms, a big x-height, and economical fitting. It looks large on-screen and in print but takes up less space than traditional typewriter and monospaced fonts. Although ITC Styleboy has a retro feel, it isn't based on any earlier typeface. As far as inspiration goes," says designer Chester Wajda, "I'd have to say comic strips of the '20s and '30s, and silent-film marquee lettering from the '20s - with a hint of a Chinese brush?" He originally created the typeface for a children's book he was working on. "I wanted it to be fun, but still somewhat formal in its underlying structure," he says. "It's largely based on right and 45-degree angles, with slight tucks inward on the stems and bowls, and a few flourishes here and there." Richard Lipton’s inspiration for Englewood came from the calligraphic hand of Philip Grushkin. Lipton has always admired his somewhat loose but disciplined hand and felt that it was worthy of keeping this style alive in a typeface that could be a somewhat accurate emulation of the warmth and life found in these letterforms. Spontaneity is a challenge to capture in a type treatment but with Englewood, Lipton hopes to honor Mr. Grushkin with a design that works especially well for an invitation, a menu, or in any display setting that calls for an informal calligraphic hand. This single weight display script includes small caps — somewhat of a rarity for a handwritten script — for flexible typesetting, along with 42 alternates that include 18 contextual ligatures to simulate the appearance of spontaneous writing.

Fortezza is a family of fonts inspired by the great masters who have created the Modern Roman style: Firmin Didot (1764 -1836) and Giambattista Bodoni (1740 -1813) Both typefaces can be similar, but a trained and close vision, show clear differences in the final result, like its weight and the degree of transition of the strokes. The type of Didot suggests greater warmth and elegance, they are characterized by extreme contrast in thick strokes and thin strokes, by the use of serifs very thin and by the vertical stress of the letters. while the Bodoni type conveys a greater robustness and hardness. Fortezza brings together the elegance and spirit of both types, but proposes a contemporary vision, establishing a distance with certain features typical of the baroque that was manifested at that time.

Inspired on posters by the extraordinary polish artist Leszek Żebrowski, Polygraph is a highly unusual face. Packed with eccentric alternates, it is an all-caps font with four exchangeable variations for each letter. These alternates are programmed to cycle when the font is used in OpenType-savvy programs, creating a random effect on glyphs distribution. The resulting pieces are truly outstanding, with an audacious handmade twist. Signature Script is a smooth pen script with large display capitals and small but legible lowercase letters. It’s ideal for logo, signature, poster, brochure or any display use. Signature Script is great for typing headlines or a restaurant logo - it’s stylish but legible enough due to its smooth shapes. Signature Script has at least three alternates for every basic lowercase letters that are automatically connected to next letter nicely.
