There are times when a typeface is used so consistently that it becomes somewhat synonymous with the subject it's used in. The opening and end titles for the ABC-TV series "Naked City" (1958-1963) were set in a bold version of a popular font emulating the look of calligraphic hand lettering. Arcaro JNL is a somewhat lighter and slightly modified version of this typeface and is offered in both regular and oblique versions. The name Arcaro comes from one of the regular characters in this superbly-written police drama, Detective Frank Arcaro.

Hasan Ghada is an Arabic display typeface. It is useful for titles and graphic projects. The font is based on the simple lines of Modern Kufi calligraphy with new ideas for square shapes and geometric feel. It supports Arabic, Persian and Urdu. This font was designed in 2002 and the first version was released under name KactTitle in the typefaces group of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), which supported the Linux operation system. In 2007, I developed this font and created five weights of it.

Linotext was designed by Morris Fuller Benton in 1901 and first appeared with the name Wedding Text with American Type Founders in Jersey City, where its metal forms were cut by hand. The font was so popular that its forms soon began appearing with other font foundries under different names, Elite Kanzlei with D. Stempel AG, Comtesse with C.F. Rühl, etc. Its ornamental forms are not considered very legible by today’s standards and Linotext should therefore be used for headlines and short texts in point sizes 12 or larger.

Twirrewyn is Frisian for ‘Whirlwind’. I have always liked the Frisian language; it’s like a crossover between English and Dutch. When I studied journalism in Zwolle (a city close to Fryslân) there were a lot of Frisian students and I did pick up a few words! Twirrewyn is a handmade font family: the fat version was made using a brush and ink; the light version was made using that same ink, but with a broken satay skewer instead of a brush. And yes, you have guessed right, we eat a lot of Satay! ;-)

In 2012 the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd will celebrated its 850th anniversary, and in 2014 it was host town to the State Garden Show of Baden-Württemberg. These both celebrations were the background to create a special font for my home town and give it the town’s ancient name. Inspired by Excoffon’s Diane, I drew and digitized a new, multilingual script font which covers the main European languages written in Latin or Cyrillic letters. Galle is a very distinctive and specific typeface. It has 356 glyphs that are coherent in their own way. We have two versions to use: regular and italic. It is a display font with very characteristic letters, each of which has been developed separately, but in such a way as to match the rest of the typeface. The inspiration taken to design the cut is Sri Lankan typography - a lot of squiggles and sharp edges, hence the name of one of the prettiest and atmospheric cities in Sri Lanka - Galle.

Biscayne is inspired by the old and classic Art Deco art and architecture found in some building ads from the 1930's in the Art Deco District of Miami. The name of the font family is one of the most emblematic and representative places in Miami City. Biscayne can be used mainly in titles, display and short texts. This typeface family supports East Europe languages. It also includes standard and discretionary ligatures, alternative style of uppercase, fractions, numerators and denominators, end and/or terminal forms and other OpenType features.

Hilda is an ode to countryside. This typeface is inspired by the peace that comes with escaping the city and drinking a cup of coffee while listening to the chirping of birds. The name comes from a cartoon series “Hilda” based on comic series by Luke Pearson. I describe it with 2 words - elegant and playful. It is an all caps, display font that can be used for titles and short texts. Hilda is multilingual and if it gains enough recognition I am willing to add more weights and styles!

Ponzastura typeface was inspired by Aldo Novarese's Eurostile, but in this case, monolinear strokes took on contrast and stress. The classical appearance of Ponzastura, whose name is inspired by the Italian city Pontestura where A. Novarese was born, is more of a reaction and interplay. The character set supports most European languages and contains ligatures as well as symbols, figures and alternative characters. Its strength is in a simplicity and format; recommended for use in headlines or short sentences. Ponzastura typeface can fill in a gap of high-contrasted fonts of nowadays.
